The idea behind accepting zombies is that you throw logic to the wind. They're walking dead. Of course they're not real and if real world physics applied we'd all be fine with our doors locked.

 

The idea is that you accept that it's a fantasy creature and normal rules don't apply. Zombie, vampires, mummies, werewolves and everything in between. None of them exist but we like to think they could because it adds an interesting flavor to life.

Even if zombies were possible they would have no chance. The cold will freeze their dead flesh, the heat will cause them to bloat and eventually explode, people with guns, and biting is the worst possible way to spread a disease..

Yeah, the elements would weather them down before humans would. Still, in some areas it could take several days/weeks for the dead corpses to degenerate to the point of non-sentience so we can pray for a few good days of zambie-hunting.

 

totally new argument is that they are not undead, they are people infected with some virus or something. They lose all higher thinking capabilities and their only goal is to eat. That is more plausible because a strain of something could be created in many ways, whether it be a natural sickness or some lab-created monstrosity.

A "zombie" could simply be an infected, rabid human attacking others. The disease could be communicable. Hell, the person could still have basic survival instincts.

 

 

So in some sense I could say a zombie apocalypse could happen, but not in the reanimation, walk off bridges sense. That would end fast.

Well if we are talking about "zombie" not in terms of undead, but rather psychotic, aggressive, and physically enhanced humans, then its somewhat feasible. There are substances out there that can alter humans in this fashion, but as far as I know there is no means of mass distribution such as airborne or waterborne, and the spread obviously needs to be more efficient than bites. So, we are getting closer, but there are still limitations. I'd put progress at 30%.

Currently to me it seems the only plausible way of having "zombies" is not having Dead zombies but "living zombies"

More infected than zombie as in being infected by either a disease or other organism (manipulation, mind control, etc.).The second most likely since those already exist!

Quick google on "zombie ants" will show you a fungus ( Ophiocordyceps unilateralis) which manipulates "living" ants and use them to reproduce them self. Using their host as transport or puppet.

 

These kind of zombies would prevent all cons that come with rotting dead corpses walking.

 

Now we only need a human version of that fungus which infects others at the speed indicated by traditional zombies and we should be set to go start a zombie apocalypse.

 

... the downsides are of course pushed upon the uninfected. Because well... How would one know if someone is infected (more as someone just passing by)

In order to identify them we should limit the physical control the fungus has on the body. Making them walk limp or something, maybe add a tilted head, drooling and things like that

 

 

Oh the possibilities when thinking about this, No wonder (the game) "The Last of Us" took inspiration from those zombie ants for their Infected.

A zombie Apocalypse in the standard definition of a zombie would be highly unlikely, and if possible would fail near enough instantly due to rotting flesh, decaying muscle and rigamortis. A standard definition being the whole living dead thing.

 

 

However, it is technically possible for a zombie-like apocalypse, entertain the idea of a virus of some kind, carried in the blood and saliva, that causes humans to have a huge apatite for food, specifically other humans, the virus also causes surplus of adrenalin to be produced in the body, while this wouldn't make the infected invincible, it would hold of pain long enough that they could appear it, obviously with the virus being transmitted though blood and saliva and with the infected seeking out and attacking other humans, it would spread like how a typical zombie virus spreads.

 

While these people wouldn't be the walking dead, they would appear to be the standard defined zombies.

What if that were true but actually on a spiritual level and it has to do with encouraging negative emotional energies and using music propaganda and horrible imagery and lyrics to get you to feel weaker about yourself and you didn't even know it? I bet that would bake your noodle.

Thanks, deathbycake, for pointing out my main contention against modern "zombie" movies and games and remakes of old ones. Zombies are cold and rotting; they lack the muscular integrity necessary for something as strenuous as running. They would literally begin to tear themselves apart if they tried. These running things we see in Left 4 Dead and similar franchises, those aren't zombies.

 

 

I'm still arming myself for the zombie outbreak though. Or the Red invasion. Or... bears, I guess.
