EDIT: so I just found out this song has Run DMC in it, who are arguably the best rap rock group in history. However, Run DMC is the root of rap rock, not Run DMC and damn Aerosmith. and no way in hell is Run DMC the root of hip hop, no chance in hell. so please don't make ignorant comments like this.

Just another generic rap song about bitches, money, and being better than anyone on the planet rather than dealing with the stresses of life. I just can't connect to these kinds of songs. Music is supposed to be something you can connect to. Something you feel. Something that moves you. That drives you to feel. It's supposed to be beautiful. Not boastful. There's that and most rap of today is way too bass heavy. Music is more than just bass. It's mid and treble too. Just because those are the frequencies that don't make the walls shake, it doesn't make them any less important. It makes all modern rap music feel exactly the same. I just can't do most of the modern rap. The genre just isn't what it used to be. That said, I like rap. I just want to see it more like what it used to be. About issues and struggles and overcoming them to become something great. Not something else to serve as a further propulsion of this society that boasts about what it has and why anyone else who doesn't have those things is shit. I just don't understand that. Anyway I can talk myself into circles on this subject all day...

 

It's just very hard to impress me with a rap song.

you know not all songs about sex/drugs/Bitches are bad, right? take Biggie for example. I suggest you go on RapGenius and read up. I do agree with you that music is supposed to make you feel something, however you don't always have to connect to it. Take Kendrick Lamar. most of us didn't struggle in the ghettos of Compton, yet he manages to make something that's genius out of it. Rap isn't meant to impress someone, or any type of genre. if it does impress you, cool, same the other way around. However, it's not a necessity to "impress" people. you're meant to listen to it, not critique it. Besides, what you posted is basically what you were just complaining about, so don't hate on it just because it's "modern".
