music Covered! - Favourite Cover Songs That You've Heard

NeverNeverland

Recommended Posts

One thing that I like about bands (especially in metal) is how they're able to play their instruments while going at such a fast pace. Especially when they're doing renditions of songs either unknown to the public or popular as all hell.

This thread is for appreciation of those brave enough to pick out a song not written by them, do their rendition and show it off to the world. For me, two of my favourite cover songs come from the same band, Realm.

The first one, "One More Red Nightmare" from King Crimson's Red, was how I first got introduced to the band, turning a classic prog rock song from my favourite progressive band, into something much heavier.

The second one, The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby", was actually made attention to me by @@Ashbad, and I never expected a Beatles cover to sound so fast, so I owe him for showing me that.

The third cover (since it's not on youtube) will have to be through a downloadable link. A cover of Judas Priest's "Hell Patrol" by Angelus Apatrida. To others, the vocals are something to be desired, but to me it's perfect the way it is.

So, what's your favourite covered songs?

I've always loved Dropkick Murphys' cover/remix/whatever of this song. They made an awesome twist to the mood of the song and did it very, very well in my opinion. Edited by Veiled Enigma

The Dillinger Escape Plan, in addition to their Plagiarism EP (which I wasn't so hot on) did an insanely oddball cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" on their "Under the Running Board" EP.

These are my favorite covers (that I'm aware of. lol)

One would probably be shocked that I'd prefer that version over George Michael's, but I really do.

A cover of a more obscure band's song. (well, as opposed to the above example, I mean)

Oh, and there's one more which I just realized was a cover.

. The other version I've heard by The Box Tops, which preceded it, just really doesn't compare, if you ask me.

My favorite cover ever would be SikTh's cover of Tupelo (originally by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds).

Second would be Johnny Cash's Hurt (originally by Nine Inch Nails). So much more meaningful when it's a dying man talking about his life and his regrets than a 30 year old talking about his regrets.

The Number Twelve Looks Like You did a great cover of "My Sharona", which is funny considering they are a mathcore band.

And I'm in love with the Andrew Jackson Jihad cover of "Two Headed Boy". I like the original, but AJJ just made it better with their own sound.

My favourite cover?

The cover I did myself of "Marianas Trench" by August Burns Red.

Hilarity and sore throats ensued.

In all seriousness, I have no idea *laughs*

I don't know that many covers.
