Parent & Friend Reactions to your Bronyness: Before & After

Braeburn Apple

Recommended Posts

For me, nobody really cares anymore. Not my family, not my friends. Nobody. (Realized after typing this: Cloud Strife Quote anyone?)

There are a few isolated cases now, of people who think its weird and all. But honestly, I am leaving in a few months, so why should I care what a few people I am probably never gonna see again think?

Finally committed my first name change.

I don't know, my parents never want to hear or see anything about MLP again.

May I know your age? also I insist to show them the bronies documentaries, they are adults and they'll understand. if they don't mind u watching cartoons just show them that my little pony is just a cartoon, not the hasbro toy line. Maybe they are concerned about your sexuality because you like a "girls" show so much, when this show and sexuality has no relation at all. Do that and tell us how it goes

I belive my parents know, i've mentioned things that onyl someone who watches the show whould know, but they've never mentioned it.

They whouldnt care anyway, they're chill like that. The people who whould care whould be my siblings, my brother whould not leave me alone about it. i tend to hid it from them. my parents, not so much.

My parents treat me like a gay person, and each time they see me watching MLP they call me a faggot. It really depresses me sometimes, especially since even my own parents judge me. All my friends in real life already do that. That's kinda why I came here... To make some friends that will not judge me, and family too. I'm slowly making friends, but not any friends that I talk to alot yet.

I don't want to be disrespectful to your parents, but they should have to be ashamed to call themselves parent. Parents are supposed to protect and love their children no matter what not make fun of them, specially with that horrible word. it's tough what ur going through, come here *hugs*

My mother don't care. =3

My dad kinda laughs at me for it though.

Man, I've been there. Throughout my life I've been 'That kid'. I've always been told I was gay, or a fag, or some other shit like that (Which I'm not). It really breaks you down. Over the past 15 years of this, I've kind-of adapted to it. It doesn't effect me anymore. Just let their words fly over your head, and you'll be fine. Don't be afraid to defend yourself, and try to build a pose that supports you.

Me, and I'm sure the entire brony community supports you. Hang in there bro, everything passes eventually.

If you'd like verbal support I'd be more than happy to tell your family about bronyism and fix them up over skype.

If you need anything, anything at all, ring me up.

Thank you for the support! Maybe we can talk sometime :)

I'm glad that this community is so friendly.

Oh I don't really love my parents, they are pretty damn disrespectful. So anything you say about them, won't hurt my feelings xD

*hugs*

I'm so sorry for the situation you're in right now. I hope this all gets sorted out between you and your family. As someone else said, I don't want to disrespect your parents, but they really need to listen to you and open their minds more, and realize that liking a cartoon does not mean you're gay, if you being gay is what they're worried about.

My Mom's cool with it, she's usually the one who orders all my merchandise for me. My Dad however just finds it weird, which it kind of is.

My mother knows and she thinks its just a tad bit weird, but my dad on the other hand. I told him one night when he was drunk so he forgot but i have to hide my pony shirts from him because of his response that night. Any idea on how to resolve this? He calls me a "faggot."

Well... Both of my parents know but they don't care. My mom sort of gets creeped out even though she likes horses and ponies. My dad just chills. Though he also gets creeped out. Hehe.. Parents..

Wow I feel very sorry for you. Many of my friends think me liking MLP is a bit weird. But a fraction of them like MLP and talk to me about it. But even sometimes, these friends annoy me and that is another reason why I joined this forum. I hope you make some "true" friends that understand you and don't do what your other "friends" did. ;) Edited by PegasisterTaco

My mom thinks it to be a elaborate joke and I can't manage to tell my father for fear of being disowned.....

It really sucks for those of you who have to worry about that kind of thing, and I say that with full sincerity. Parents shouldn't hate on their kids for what they watch, especially if it engages them in a community with other people. :( I think it's safe for a newcomer to say that we're here for you, bronies.

I'm a little bit past the point of their opinion making much difference(their words, not mine), but I think they're finally getting that this animation and web-based community thing isn't going away and that I'm not going to get up one day and not like fun cartoons and my online friends. XD My father has always kind of dismissed animation as frivolous and would prefer I spend my time on "real things;" back in middle school when it was Animorphs it was "if you'd just pay as much attention in class as you did to those books" etc etc. He doesn't quite get that I'm not going to one day up and abandon my hobbies and friends for more "adult" things just because adults are supposed to. I like cummings, Eliot, Rilke, and Rarity, dangit.

My mom, on the other hand, just worries about how much money I spend on merch, which is a way bigger problem with my sister than me(pegasister is younger and still has yet to really grasp what money's worth). Past that she's like "Oh... okay, cool! Who are you meeting/what are you doing/where are you going?" She was really happy when I picked up Magic: the Gathering, because it's a hobby that I can do with my sister and that involves a community of others. She's a very "don't hate, participate!" kind of lady and is way more accepting of "new media," as it were. 19 years old, "heck yeah go cross-country for two weeks for an anime convention! just have the people you're staying with call me, take a friend, and stay in touch." Pretty liberal about online interaction being just as legit, if different in nature, than face-to-face.

Man, I sound kind of like a basement-dweller. It's an attic, people, and I'm out once I have enough saved up for a real place of my own. ;)

  • 1 month later...

As you read in the title, how do your parents and friends feel about you being a brony (/pegasister, cant' forget the ladies now can we :P)?

Do they despies you, love you, think there is something wrong with you or do they just don't care?

((OBS! I didn't add hate because because it's a strong word, but if your parents indeed do hate you then they need serious help. Sure despise is kinda strong too but I'm not using it in a serious way.))

Well, I guess I'll start since its my thread! ;D

Ok, so basically my mom think I'm "silly" for watching a "little-girls-show" while my dad just laughs at it. I tease my mom sometimes to watch the show with me, she just find me nuts.

Before when I watched Spongebob my dad bought spongebob-things when he occationally saw them in a store, like crackers and other small stuff while my mom told dad, "I don't think he would want that"

My friends I guess don't mind it, they just laugh at it as I'm happy to se them smile, smile, smile! :D

No one in my family gives a crap, except my 11 year old sister, who hates ponies with a burning passion.

I even got my mom to drive to McDonalds to buy me some pony toys.

lol why does your sister hate your love for ponies so much? does she judge you based on that? lol...
