What does Fluttershy do for a living?

Well, you see...

Twilight is a student, and good one, so let's assume that she receiving grants.

Applejack - no questions - family business.

Rarity - no questions - individual entrepreneur.

Pinkie Pie - no questions - working in sugarcube corner.

Rainbow Dash - ok, she may recive salary as "weather pegasi" or live on prise money.

Fluttershy - ????

1. Uses animal-slaves on small factory in forest?

2. Makes angel steal for her?

3. Sells weed?

4. Recives unemployment benefit?

5. Recives government donations for helping animals?

Fluttershy has all those pets around. She is probably the pet store lady person. And probably a vet, too. Don't take my words for canon, though. I am not very educated on this matter.

Fluttershy gets paid to help other ponies pets, so yes, she's a vet. i remember one episode she was talking about helping applejacks dog (cant remember name) that might link to that she is a vet. upon that i have no idea

In episode with mare-do-well, we seen that earth ponies bilds houses, so I dont think they doing it with magic. Well, at first I thought that they live in some sorta of communistic or anarcistic society, but amount of money displayed makes me to abandon this idea.

in "Stare Master", episode 17, you can clearly see Fluttershy returning Oppalescense to Rarity for her grooming, even though she didn't get any payment (because she did it for free for being Rarity, her best friend), she gives the impression that she takes care, train, clean and vet someponies pets for a small donation, I wouldn't call it payment though.

she also seems to train animals very good to do anything she wants, so she could get paid for other animals talents, specially birds, which usually sing for bigger events.

It's hard to say what Fluttershy does for a living, seeing as she is the one who spends the most money on food. In the episode apple buck season, she and Apple Jack have to count all the new bouncing baby bunnies in town. So she could be someone who monitors all the animals in town and keeps track of how many animals are in town. That's just an idea. It could be she get's money from helping other ponies with their pets and they pay her.

She runs an animal sanctuary, as far as I'm concerned - vet, pet shop and adoption agency all rolled into one. She might also sell her chickens' eggs and as @@pinkiefan1287 suggested, she could monitor wildlife.

It's never stated that the animals she cares for belong to other ponies, so we can conclude that most of them are wild animals she cares for. It's possible she recieves donations for this from various sources, as well as individual payment from ponies who need someone to watch their pet for them.

While she does act like a vet, we did see where Twilight brought Spike to an actual vet, which means that Fluttershy likely works on her own, as we see everytime we see her working with animals. I'm definitely going with donations.

Sorry to bump a necro thread, but this question actually started bothering me a couple days ago, so I wanted to see what others thought.

 

A number of people think Fluttershy would be the vet, but in the episode Secret of My Excess, the town doctor recommends to Twilight that she takes Spike to a vet, and it wasn't Fluttershy.

 

My opinion is that Fluttershy is employed as Ponyville's Animal Control.  She deals with all the lost/abandoned/wild animals and, as part of it, runs a shelter/adoption agency.  Hence why she has such an eclectic choice of adoptable pets for Rainbow Dash.

She might even be an animal matchmaker. And like the Pegasi who get paid to handle the weather, Fluttershy gets paid by the town to handle the wildlife.

there's even a scene where she is seen feeding baby birds. I'd imagine she be given some kind of grant to support the Animal welfare and does small jobs involving animals for extra bits

Pretty much what Princess Lona said. In Equestria all of nature happens because the ponies maintain it. The sun and moon rise and fall by them, the winter and all weather is controlled by them, the falling of leaves is aided by them ect. It is not a leap to say that animal behavior is also aided by them. This is fluttershy's job. To organize and help the animals of ponyville and all that entails which probably also means, acquiring pets and farm animals.
