Groovyle 43 May 15, 2013 Share May 15, 2013 well, golurk is ghost/ground but it is based on golems which are said to be made of clay. a steel/ghost could possibly be a modern version of that, though I hope they something more interesting than that. Oh...umm...okay...I didn't know there is a ghost/ground, haven't played Gen V xD And just forget that part, I was just trying to imagine touching a steel ghost, my finger would go through the Pokemon and and and... There goes me again. But if such Pokemon exist, I'll burn them with flamethrower muahahaha! What? A burning ghost? asgnjfsrbgj Thanks to @Digiral for the sketch of my avatar. Radiance64 7,059 May 15, 2013 Share May 15, 2013 I'm hoping for a Fire/Flying Rapidash evo. xD Well, either way, Fairy-type is looking more likely by the minute. And as a big fan of folklore, this pleases me greatly. Bring on the nix(Water/Fairy), the huldra(multiple types, Rock/Fairy, Grass/Fairy, Water/Fairy), the vitterfolk(ground/fairy) and the Dullahan(ghost/fairy).Oh yes, not only does Rapidash kind of need an evolution, but an alicorn Pokemon would be just killer. And Fairy sounds like it'll be a great type if the rumors are true, plus it'd be great to finally see a new type!
Gourgeist 262 May 15, 2013 Share May 15, 2013 Honestly I think a new type would break the type matchup charts since everything is already sorted and figured out with advantages and disadvantages. RWB 229 May 15, 2013 Share May 15, 2013 "Honestly I think a new type would break the type matchup charts since everything is already sorted and figured out with advantages and disadvantages." Except the part where the metagame is utterly imbalanced. "The meaning of life? Humans create their own meaning. They always strive onwards, upwards, to break the limits of their knowledge, the limits of their bodies capacities, and the limits of their technology. We have to take the good with the bad. Espeon 338 May 16, 2013 Share May 16, 2013 Honestly I think a new type would break the type matchup charts since everything is already sorted and figured out with advantages and disadvantages. There's really no "breaking" the type chart that can be done. All a theoretical new type would do is add an 18th row and column with its own unique strengths and weaknesses in relation to the others. The supposed new type wouldn't change that, for example, Fire is super-effective against Grass. One could argue that everything was "already sorted and figured out with advantages and disadvantages" back in Gen I when Dark and Steel didn't exist. Those two types were made as countermeasures to the previously-godlike Psychic-type, which was only resisted by itself and was weak against only the extremely weak and scarce Bug-type (Psychic was immune to Ghost in Gen I, but it's not like it mattered that much with only Lick to deal with). Who's to say this type wouldn't be a countermeasure to tear down some of the better current types and build up some of the worse? Keep in mind that it's only a rumor at the moment, but I've heard that this hypothetical new type would be immune to Dragon (adding things that can deal with Dragon very well, currently limited to a single type) and weak to Poison (adding things that make Poison a more worthwhile offensive type, aka something that hits more than Grass super-effectively), a good example of the possible benefits of adding a type in the current environment. The only thing I can see an 18th type shaking up to the point of a necessary overhaul is the Hidden Power system: it's already some fancy mathematics to make sixteen types (Hidden Power can't be Normal) of base power 30(?) - 70 available, so I'd assume fancy mathematics would be necessary to add a seventeenth possible Hidden Power type without changing the base power range or requiring an IV system overhaul (which is infinitely improbable because XY have backwards compatibility; the last time a core stat mechanic was changed, backwards compatibility was severed). Then again, I really don't know exactly what would go into adding a new potential type into the Hidden Power pool, so eh. As you might be able to tell, I'm trying really hard to stay neutral about a new type. I don't see any concrete evidence that it will or won't exist yet. The biggest argument for people saying it's all but confirmed is the whole Pokemon Smash / Sylveon thing that happened recently, but from all the details and translations I've heard, they're staying deliberately and extremely vague about everything. Without anything convincing me enough, I'd naturally believe that there will not be a new type, but I'm convinced enough to not be adamant about the lack of a new type yet not convinced enough to be adamant about the existence of a new type. Here's hoping GameFreak will push me onto one side of the fence or the other fairly soon? 1 @Eevee (Arcanel) @Leafeon (Sapphire Quill) | @Vaporeon (Seraphim) | @Glaceon (Megamare) | @Flareon (MrXweet) (Golgo) | @Espeon (BowlArt64) | @Umbreon (Kestrel) | @Sylveon (Annakavanna) The Espeon gif from http://www.pkparaiso.com/xy/sprites_pokemon.php

As for ingame in Platinum, shouldn't really matter too much what you go with as long as you have a well balanced team, just go with anything good that isn't a water or grass type for your other 4 and you should be fine.

Kapi 218 June 11, 2013 Share June 11, 2013 (edited) Anybody watch the Pokemon X & Y E3 video? Watch it, srsly. (Yeah, the page title is Yoshi's New Island. I dunno why, maybe Yoshi is a new Pokemon??) Highlights: Fairy Type...is the new, 18th type of Pokemon. Sylveon, as well as other Pokemon, like Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, and Marill will also have this type. It is Super Effective against Dragon Type Pokemon. Pokemon-AmieIt's a whole new way of bonding with Pokemon. Big or Small, you can feed, pet, and play with your Pokemon partners in a whole new way. Icons on screen will display their feelings towards you as you interact with them, you can even copy their actions, such as opening your mouth wide or tilting your head to the side, to make them happier. Wild EncountersThere are new ways to start wild encounters, the one shown in the video has the following dialogue: "Whoa! The Heloptile you stepped on attacked!" New Pokemon-Noivern is Flying/Dragon, 4' 11", 187.4 lbs., and uses a new attack called Boomburst.-Vivillon is Bug/Flying, 3' 11", 37.5 lbs., and can learn Struggle Bug. It evolves from Spewpa, who has not been revealed yet. Other Stuff - In battle grammar has changed slightly. "Pokemon used Move!" is now one line instead of 2, and "The foe's..."/"The Wild..." was replaced with "The Opposing..."-The male player is named Xavier.-The games will launch worldwide on October 12th, 2013. I wonder why it's only super effective against dragon though. it also makes me wonder what types it'll be weak to Well, back in May, PokeBeach had an article from a "source" that provided quite a bit of info on X & Y. I think this is where most of the Fairy type speculation came in, here is the article. According to that, "Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it." So, I'm betting this is what's going to be in the retail game. I think it's an odd type, but it changes the strategy up quite a bit, so I guess we'll see what happens, It'll certainly change some of my favorites, notably Azumarill, haha. Mutemutt 773 June 12, 2013 Share June 12, 2013 Super Effective against dragon types!? Yes! All of my yes! I always felt like the dragon type could use a few more checks. Fairy type, there was a lot of speculation and I personally believed it would be true considering Sylveon's design and the hints about Sylveon's type in pokemon smash. Hopefully the developers will include a decent amount of fairy type pokemon and moves to get the ball rolling. Immunity to dragon sounds delicious, but I could settle for just a resistance.

Nerdy Luigi 2,065 July 5, 2013 Share July 5, 2013 I thought that Gen 3 was the best, Gen 5 the worst thus far. Guessing 6 will be even worse. My favorite pokemon: Rayquaza's a BADASS! he can learn moves of many different types, and his maxxes go up to numbers in the 300's and 400's. Its base total is 680, one of the highest. (Arceus being the highest with a 720 base total) And then there's this cutie :3 Pikachu. Why? He is the first to learn a move that is not normal type, learning Thundershock by default. Actually, the first one is Weedle(by number) with it's Poison Sting, and Weedle shows up as early in the games as Pikachu, and is more common. I iz nitpicker, mmmyes. "The meaning of life? They DO learn poison sting by default, however they are one of the weakest Pokemon ever made. It has a base total of 195, like all the other caterpillar-based pokemon, 195. Pikachu's base total is 300, much more, and quite high for a basic. Edited July 6, 2013 by Rainbow P.F. Sparkle
ReGen 1,466 July 6, 2013 Share July 6, 2013 Oh yes, I am very fond of the series. While i'm not a huge mega-fan, I still love the series. The first one I remember playing was Blue back on the GBC. My favorite had to be Emerald. I frickin' love that game. I also like the Mystery Dungeon series. They had a really engaging story, in my honest opinion. And my favorite Pokemon is none other than the infamous duo from Colosseum: "I keep the walking on the right side, but I won't judge the next who handles walking on the wrong. 'Cause that's how he wants to be. No difference, see." Cloud of Sounds | YouTube
