MLP Forums' (almost) brand new Minecraft server!

After several months in development, it has finally arrived! The MLP Forums Minecraft server is looking at the grand opening of its two new expansions:

• The Cloudsdale Colosseum
• The Survival 2.0 World

Both of these grand worlds will be stemming off of our sexy new spawn area, designed by Tich. We have a metric ton of information to hand out to you, so let's begin!

The redesigned spawn area

Here is an overhead map to give you an idea of the layout:

Starting with the least changed, directly under the statue of our benevolent dictator, is the entrance to the Equestria project. Only approved Equestria Architects can build here; but the world has finally been opened for public viewing!

Cloudsdale Colosseum

To the left is a floating Parthenon-style building, which houses the entrance to Cloudsdale Colosseum. The Colosseum serves a similar function as the beloved forum section, hosting a variety of Minecraft-based events and minigames. Three games are online at this time, but we're hoping to launch one or two more sometime after Minecraft 1.4.

So, here is a brief list of what is currently offered in Cloudsdale Colosseum:

• Spleef Arena: A standard spleef arena with an automatic reset. Dig out the sand to murder your enemies in this classic game of 'death by lava'. Can hold 2 to 4 players. Bonus points if you can fit a larger party in. When resetting the arena, BE SURE TO TURN THE MACHINE BACK OFF. Failure to do so could result in serious lag. Only leave the generator running for about 10 seconds.

• Rainbow Fighter: a PvP game featuring dispensers and pistons. Lock yourself in your battle bay and push the buttons on the opponent's side to eradicate him from the game

• Rainbow Factory: Think Guitar Hero, but gloomier. You mess up, you die. Please note that this machine also needs to be deactivated, please be considerate of Lag

Survival 2.0

Towards the right side of the spawn area is a Mayan Temple-esque structure, which houses the portals to the old and new Survival Maps. We have created a new style of survival map to introduce new gameplay concepts and a fresh start to the survival experience. Please note that the original freebuild world is still available at this time, but it may be eventually be phased out in favour of Survival 2.0.

• Organization! To give some structure to the way players build houses, a lot system has been introduced. Players can purchase plots of land for bits (the server's new currency - see more details below under "Economy"). High-end luxury lots are also available but at an increased cost. To claim one of these lots, make sure you have enough bits with the /ec command, then break the sign designating your desired lot. Its that simple! If you need cash, you can sell items from your inventory using /sell.

• Economy! A marketplace was created for players to sell and trade items, but this can be done anywhere at any time as well. If you have something you are looking to sell, or someone wants to buy something from you, work out a price and use /pay. A banking system is also available for use. To find out more about all these commands, just consult /help.

• Dungeons and Dragons! Various booby-trapped dungeons have been scattered throughout the map for you to explore and conquer, with friends or alone. All dungeons have a preset difficulty level and loot at the end. Loot is limited, so we currently operate on an honour system: take some, leave some. Chests will not be refilled very often until a suitable plugin is found. Roleplay, while not specifically suited to this world, is permitted; but please respect others that may not be participating in your activities.

Located directly under the Feld0 statue is the new entrance to the Equestria build! The Equestria project now has its own portal into the world, and we are excited to announce that it is open for public visitation! While you will not be able to build anything in the world without permission, players will be able to get a good look around at the progress our architects have made, and even decide if they themselves feel up to applying themselves to help with the project!

That concludes the kickoff of the updated Minecraft server! A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into creating this experience for you; but it is only the first set of changes with many more to follow. We plan to continue with the addition of more worlds, more minigames, more cities, and more dungeons in the future, as well as doing our best to improve the general Minecraft server experience.


UPDATE:

For those of you who have not already noticed, the server is now open to 1.4! After many hours of tinkering, we went ahead and updated the server itself as well as it's plugins to full 1.4 standards.

That being said, there may still be some bugs, as upgrading to 1.4 required the re-instillation of a number of plugins. If you encounter any issues, please make a thread here and let us know immediately so that our team of highly trained monkeys can get on it as soon as possible.

Also, with the 1.4 Update, we are looking to expand our horizons on the Survival 2.0 world. Per intrest of a large group of people, we will be implementing an RPG style plugin to the New Survival world. Players will soon be able to complete quests for loot, experience, and EC bonus. Any suggestions will be taken in for consideration.

Well, I have extremely exciting news for you then: It is done!

All of this has been added, the reason it is (almost) brand new is because we have always had a server, but this is the first time we have done something this huge with it.

I rarely hop onto the server due to lack of resources and build space, as well as a griefing that happened in the town I spawned in. Now that we have a fresh start to the server, I will be sure to come on more often.

Yes, the free build world does still exist for you to build in. It was our intent to keep that while still expanding the experience on the server for a more broad audience

the /sell command isn't working. I'm trying to sell some Wood Planks, so i'm doing /sell <Wood_Planks> [31]. Then I tried /Sell <WoodPlank> but it didn't work.

If you just have the item selected in your inventory, you should be able to do /sell hand <number>. If that doesnt work, there may just be a permission error

Although It says that there is a Free Build, There is no way to go to the Free Build. So my guess is that the Free Build hasn't been implemented yet. So when will it be on the Server?

Free build is the name of the old survival world. It is a "free build" because there are no restrictions, and building is permitted anywhere. To gain access, type /spawn, turn right at the sign, and the Golden Portal will take you to that area!

Holy freaking crap, that looks awesome!!

 

I admit, I have not played Minecraft for months now. However, after seeing this, I'm thinking about starting to play it again. Maybe I'll join this server! Looks super cool! Love the Feld0 in the first few pics too. I also love how there's a marketplace, and everything! I might be able to join, so expect me in the future (maybe!)!

 

I'm really proud of the work done, and it looks like a fun and creative server. Aarrrrggh...I should play Miiinnneecccrrraaafffttt...

In order to play our official Minecraft server, you must have a legitimate copy of Minecraft. Players without cannot connect, nor can we make exceptions for them.
