Pan the Fabulous Ferret 2,642 October 28, 2012 Share October 28, 2012 (edited) Simply put... When posting an image in the forums, you are able to upload directly from your computer/device. However when you want to upload an image onto A personal Message, you must input a URL for it to apear. This annoys me to no end, for many times I want to post an image to someone and cannot because I do not have the URL of the original site thay came from. Can this be changed? if not, then can someone at least explain why not? Edited November 21, 2012 by Dr.TheBronyHeart
Retro*Derpy 3,183 October 28, 2012 Share October 28, 2012 Yeah I am not sure why that isn't there, but in the mean time you can go to photobucket or some type of picture uploading website and copy the image URL there....

O I thought you were at a cpu, the only thing I can think of is putting the picture on a USB stick and transferring it on a computer to upload, but that seems like a hassle rather than a direct upload.
Flicker Sweet 3,391 October 28, 2012 Share October 28, 2012 I agree, it's a major pain in the ass having to post a pic on facebook, then link it to the Forums http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png
Dusty Soul 2,611 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 agreed. I find it extremely annoying that I have to post it on photobucket, then post it. 1 Soundcloud-------------------Facebook---------------------------Youtube
FLARE 952 October 29, 2012 Share October 29, 2012 (edited) It's like that for a reason. When in PM's not many people will see it so it uses up server space to host an image that might be used once and viewed once by one person, seems like a waste to me. Or atleast that's what I think the reason is. Edited October 29, 2012 by Flare03

Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 November 21, 2012 Founder Share November 21, 2012 Just to make it clear, I make it a personal priority to read each and every single post in the feedback section... often, however, it is unrealistic to personally reply to all of them, particularly when it has to do with feedback that has been suggested before (people usually bring up the last thread on it when that happens). While we have exponentially more server resources now than we did last time this came up, my stance on attachments in personal conversations remains unchanged: Since attachments in private messages will never be seen by the public, they add nothing of value to the site and will likely sit around for half an eternity, taking up space and never being accessed after the recipient downloads the file. MLP Forums isn't a filesharing site, I'm afraid. attachments are meant for the inclusion of a relevant picture or file with your posts, that can then be seen and downloaded potentially by thousands of visitors without worry of the download expiring and being auto-deleted or being surrounded by ridiculous ads. When sharing a file privately, however, the recipient will likely download it regardless of how many ads are placed beside the download link. I'm more than happy to host huge 100 MB files attached to publicly accessible posts; but in the private environment of a personal conversation, old attachments can potentially really pile up, since there is no mechanism to automatically delete old PM's or their attachments. At this time, the only exception to this is staff members - they have the ability to attach files in personal convos because it can be extremely helpful as they go about their jobs. I certainly understand how convenient it is not to need to leave MLP Forums to send a file along with a message, however. While it isn't a feature I'm interested in granting globally, I think we could add it to the list of subscriber perks - as users who make recurring monthly payments, their subscription fee should cover the costs of any files they upload to personal convos. 4 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
Pinkazoid 3,493 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 Well you can just upload it to tinypic and link it from there, it's kinda annoying to do that, but it saves up space, just think of the chaos if everypony uploaded pictures directly to the forums o3o :
Pulcinella 1,016 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I hate this, too. Also, I hate it how you have to do the same thing with signatures. Ugh, it's sooo tedious having to get over 100 chars just to apply a freakin' signature.
