What if a male character turned it into the Mane 7?

I was in my local Big W today and i took the time to stealth past the MLP toy isle. Today something caught my eye. I noticed a new pack of miniature figures of the Mane 6 but there was also an extra pony in the middle which i thought was strange. I took a closer look but didn't recognize the character so i turned around the box and saw that his name is Emerald Ray. I did a quick Google search and he seems to be pretty hard to find info on, except for the fact that he's been unofficial dubbed the pimp of Ponyville lol.

 

Now I'm not here to jump the gun and say he'll be a new mane character, because i know that it is very unlikely, in fact I think it will forever be the Mane 6. But the thought popped into my head.

 

What if a male character was introduced as part of the mane cast?

 

The only issue i can think of would be that Hasbro would have another character they'd have to juggle into episodes, given that Applejack fans already feel robbed of air time. But i personally think it would be pretty cool to have a male (Spike doesn't count, he's a kid and not a pony) influence on the group. I think about the episodes with Shining Armour (who is an important character but isn't really part of the group) in them and it's kind of cool when he's around because i feel like i can relate to him more on certain levels like decision making than i can with the female characters.

 

Summing it up, would you like a male character thrown into the works or not and why?

 

I wanted to try and keep this topic brief yet comprehensive but i was racing against time and didn't really have the time to make it work like i wanted to. Hope it all made sense.

I think it would be really cool if they would introduce a male character into the mane six. I understand that some people would be upset that that would be less airtime than the others. But that wouldn't be the characters fault, it is just the writers just needing to figure out how to fit more central stories for each character.

Really, that's all I can say...if this actually happened I would give it a chance, of course, because it's MLP:FiM so how can they go wrong, but...

I think that would be great! making something about gender differences would also be a big part of it, and it would give some great contrivarsy in my opinion. perheps one the girls would have interest in someone and that would be the introductory. Although that would be really hard to pull off without being over-the-top cheesy, the talented group that works on the show would probably figure something out.

 

So yeah, that would be welcome by me.

I don't think it would be a good thing because the mane 6 is the mane 6, nobody can never really change that, but if there was, I'm pretty sure they'd have to make one of them a background charecter and I really don't want that.

Call me sexist, but I really would rather keep the mane six as all female.
And don't even get me started on the limited GOOD screentime Applejack gets.
Unless the other characters' screentime will be sacrificed for this...new character, I am strongly against it.

Well... I wouldn't want it. I prefer the six mane being all female that's just the way it should be. Celestia and Luna are both female and they wielded it last time, would be weird to have a male break the mold. I mean girls don't get a lot of good shows targeted towards them and making them the main characters.

 

Second of all having a seventh element would make Twilight look lackluster. Magic was supposed to be the big surprise element and don't want to see it thrown down a chute. I can see a "fake" Elements of Harmony mare coming up in an episode though. An imposter of some sort, that hasn't been done yet.

But it still looks kinda weird, but I'd like it to happen. Maybe not as Mane 7, but maybe to let him be in the show like every second episode or so? I think this would just benefit the show on so many different levels, especially if he is a badass

 

But I were thinking, maybe some haters (especially parents) would be more accepting if there was a male character who played a bigger role? Think about it, most dislike it because it is girly, but if an awesome male character were added... BAM!

I highly doubt it'll ever happen, but it would be interesting if it did. It would be nice to have a brony surrogate character who isn't a kid like Spike. Then again, a grown stallion in the group may inevitably turn the Mane 6 into his harem bring up romantic issues, which I'm not sure would fit the show.

 

Ultimately, I'd rather it not happen. I like my fillies, and I don't want some guy barging in.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh, no. It is pretty clear that male characters haven't recieved much screen time, and much of the screen time they've gotten hasn't been entirely positive, but you do not add or subtract from the mane 6. You just don't. They 're perfect and engaging the way they are and adding a new character like that is often a sign of the impending death of the show.

I'm not saying that wouldn't be interesting and all, I just don't think it would feel right to me. It would totally change the dynamic of the group, since you've got this one guy hanging out with six attractive girls just to help save Equestria and stuff (*cough* WHIPPED). Now if he was more of a loner who helped out the 6 from time to time, I'd be thrilled with that.

 

But as for the team itself, we've already got Spike, who after the events of Crystal Empire, seems almost like an unofficial 7th element. And no matter how much some people poke fun at him, Spike is cool.

I expected mixed thoughts haha. I get that some fans are really, i guess, protective of the mane 6 for their own reasons and that's cool. But how many shows have kept the exact same characters throughout the entire series? I think MLP has this character invulnerability partially due to the cutesy art style which makes us want to love them, which is also cool. But i can't help but think adding more of a male presence to the show would show more benefits than drawbacks.

I have thought about this a lot, well more fantasized -every night- I would think about me being that pony.

Well to be totally honest if it happended i wouldn't hate the show, but I wouldn't want him to be a permanent addition who is in most episodes.

 

Now I could totally roll with the idea of a loner type guy who is a total BA. I actually wouldn't mind that much..

Plus if hes green... Well green is my favorite color so..

 

And he would be more relate able then the girls for bronys.

Again 7 charactors that need to have somewhat even screen time is very hard though. I think its already struggling right now. But if hes a somewhat frequent charactor, but not like around in every episode more like once every so and often like every 2-3 episodes? I'd be totally fine with that I think.

 

I like the show so much I think it would take quite a decent amount to ruin it for me.

 

Although I did have a sigh of relief when I found out the main 6 were not staying crystallized forever(Sorry not my style.. not sure if I'd live with that change very well.. To sparkly for me .)

As stated, Spike fills in that masculine role already, plus Rainbow Dash being the tomboy she is. Besides they are in accordance with the only 6 elements of harmony.

I doubt they will add a male character to the mane 6, considering Spike is already kind of like part of the group.

I'm thinking this definitely won't happen, as the set pictured clearly just added this 'Emerald Ray' just to have a 7-color rainbow, so just paranoia on this one...

In any case, I'd be against adding a seventh character to the Mane 6(other than Spike, but he's already there) because

i) There's already enough trouble getting enough screentime for everypony.

ii) Having another character added would ruin the dynamic between the others, even if he got along with them

iii) Unofficially dubbed the pimp of ponyville? Ugh. No, thank you.

Any additional main character, whether is male of female, at this point of the series is a bad idea IMO. Because the the show will have to switch focus to this new character to make him/her likable to the audience, making the less popular characters (like Spike and Applejack) get the shaft in terms of airtime and additional character development.

 

Besides Spike, already fits the role as "the only guy", he only needs more awesome moments and character development. The season 3 premiere did a great job his character.

 

Also, dismissing Spike because he is not a pony is pretty stupid.

What if Twilight's power of leadership role was complete after the mane 6 saved the crystal empire and that to learn even more about the power of magic and the power of friendship and the power of love, it was time for her join her friends instead of lead them. And that's in order for her to learn more, some pony else assumes a leadership role. The reason for that would be to truly understand the decision's made by others and their cause and effects and the lessons learned after, and wisdom and knowledge increased. Which may explain the book Celestia and Luna were looking at was a symbol of the power of prophecy. Which may explain their dissappointment in that they have to tell Twilight the truth about whom she is. Which might give Twilight that Trollestia feeling again....

I feel like the Mane 7 isn't as catchy as the mane 6 and they'd have to completely tie him in to everything. Plus, would he have an element of harmony? If so, what would it be?

 

I'm not that excited about the idea. But who knows? It might work.

I think the Shining Armor already plays this role, kind of. That is not mane 6 but from time to time helps them. It would clash with a lof of the story of the 6 elements though

I have the feeling that I'm not the first to think of this, but the second that the "Mane 6" becomes "The Mane 6 + 1 male character", FedEx, UPS, and every other parcel delivery service will see a sudden increase in business, because of...shipping.
