Is season 3 destined to ruin Pinkie Pie's reputation?

I don't see any real difference in her portrayal in Season 3 as opposed to Season 1. She is a little naive and can be crazy at times. Just look at her behaviour in "A Bird in the Hoof". In the first case, she was behaving like a sugared-up five year old during a visit from the ruler and most important pony in Equestria: jumping on the table, eating the cupcake right out from under Celestia's nose, sticking her whole face into the chocolate fountain. As for season 2, she was eating like a pig during the Garden Party in "Sweet and Elite". There are many more examples of such things I can add, but that should do to prove my point. Which is this: Pinkie generally doesn't moderate her behaviour based on the situation she's in, and often doesn't consider the consequences of how she is acting or what other ponies might think of her. This seemed like just more of the same in the new season to me.

how wre her lines really stupid? maybe you didnt get the pun jokes she was making or thought the cuite mark crusaders were making.....  and i think the mane six didnt get much lines in the cyrstal empire (but twilight)but the flugle horne was pretty funny

I'm very sorry about that, but I'm really sure all of her lame lines in the CMC episode were really stupid, now, I love Pinkie to death, but that's why I made this thread, because she may be childish, obnoxious, reckless and soforth, But she's very intelligent, and others episodes displayed that.

This Pinkie was not her, she wasn't in character, and these puns, please! I never heard something more stupid before.

When I read the title, I thought "Please, please, please, please, just f*ckn kill yourself already".

When I was done reading, I just sighed.

EDIT: It's all a conspiracy. The illuminati-aliens have brainwashed Hasbro to make a season solely for ruining Pinkie's reputation.

I think it came from the writer wanting to shoe-horn Pinkie being Pinkie, but not having the screen time in the script to make anything build up right.

I've noticed the writers have a bad habit in general of flanderizing characters in episodes where they have small roles.

please elaborate.

You're just overanalyzing a kids show. Seriously, it's not important.

You have to remember: this is a KIDS show, not a "mature" or "serious" show.

all the fandom overanalyze everything, that's our job...and I'm not talking about anything mature, it's just how Pinkie feels on these episodes.

I think they used different writers for the CMC episode and the Too Many Pinkie Pies episode.

did you guys saw the Trixie episode? :D

Pinkie was phenomenal! she was funny and didn't feel forced, she spent the whole episode without a mouth and she couldn't feel more Pinkie than ever! that's season 2 Pinkie... and at the end, of course I loved her, I loved the fact that she got interrupted when she was about to say something.

Best episode of season 3 BY FAR! I have faith in her now :)

So far it's running a close race with the premiere for best S3 episode for me, I loved it. I also like how they used some of Lauren's original intent of Zecora being a mentor figure.

I agree with Dash Forever.  The copies in Season 3 Episode 3 were one dimensional.  They served no purpose other than to cause a problem for the Mane 6 to solve.  Pinkie Pie is still the complex, hilarious and cute pony we all know and love and I doubt that the producers would do anything to lower Pinkie's importance in the show.  smile.png

I just can't describe what I'm feeling, but I do think that Pinkie has been pretty... out of character this season. She doesn't seem as random, happy, or bouncy as she used to be, and almost all of her humor has felt really, really forced to me.

Quite. I thought she seemed to be on the right track during that episode. Even without a mouth, she's able to deliver humor that I really enjoy. It's kind of sad that it took them 5 episodes to finally nail it. I really hope she stays at this level, I can't stand to see them ruin her :(

Woah there! No need to call the writers noobs Sparky. The person who wrote "One Bad Apple" is Cindy Morrow, also writer of another Pinkie centered episode, "Griffon the Brush-Off" (which I believe settles well enough how Pinkie is don't you think?). "Magic Duel" was wrote by M.A Larson, who ironically was the only one so far in this season who didn't write a Pinkie centered episode, but I think is a great master of humor. The one who wrote the "The Crystal Empire" is Meghan McCarthy, AKA, the writer of "Party of One". "And Too Many Pinkie Pies" was written by Dave Polsky, who wrote "Feeling Pinkie Keen"! I dunno about you, but I think the writers know how to handle Pinkie, my dear.

To me the whole season so far has felt... off. I don't really know how to describe it any better than that really.

Overall the Crystal Empire episodes were decent, a few things bothered me but not nearly as bad as the Pinkie episode or what has followed. Mainly what is bothering me is that they seem to be trying too hard to cater to the fandom with all the references and stuff, those things need to come naturally within the episode and not be forced. Like I was thrilled Trixie was making a return until her little display of power to force Twilight into the duel turned into nothing more than fan service it seemed. And a lot of the things that happened in the Pinkie episode bothered me and I'll probably just brush that one aside to forget.

Someone earlier in the thread compared Pinkie to GIR from Invader Zim and I gotta say that would be fine and all except Vasquez never allowed GIR to get turned into a character to just make the fandom happy. He remained the same constantly random, but with purpose, crazy little robot companion of Zim as he was from the beginning.

let me explain myself better honey.

Pinkie is the character with most cameos on episodes, even if she's not the one featuring. Season3, ep1, ep2 and ep3...I felt Pinkie on character, but she felt forced...ep4 (One bad apple) I saw a completely different pony, that wasn't her.

I like Meghan McCarthy, she's my favorite writer. She did a good job with the Crystal Empire, as a whole, but she left out Pinkie and Fluttershy on these episodes.

One writer doesn't need to write a character episode to be able to make a good episode either, the writer needs to feel, think and breathe like the character, so if they hire new writers, they have to watch all seasons to understand the characters.

Didn't you notice a slight difference from the Pinkie of ep5 and ep4, because I did, even if they had short lines and quick appearances. I did felt the change.

please don't hate me I love you :<

I really don't mind fan service and reference, I felt that this latest episode came out naturally, like the episodes that we were used to watch in season 2

I'm not saying that having done a character-centric episode means you'll do obligatory well next time, but I do think that, if the episode was successful, it means that the writer had been able to capture the character's essence, and as such, be able to use it next time. I for one didn't feel it forced, because the level of randomness Pinkie can show vary. A lot. I mostly think Cindy wanted to make bad puns.tongue.png Plus, she needed the character that would have been able to be completely oblivious to danger or seriousness, and Pinkie's can fit that job (she HAS done it before). THAT'S why I didn't feel it forced. I don't think it reached a level of random that would have felt wrong. The difference between this and the before episode was the way Pinkie was "used", so to speak. But this is M.A Larson. If there's one guy who can bring humor, it's him.mellow.png

But Sparky, you did say that the whole season was against Pinkie, don't contradict yourself.tongue.png

And no, I don't hate! How could I!?smile.png But I do get defensive when the writers (who I respect quite a lot) get dissed so nonchalantly. I think that's one of the few things that might rustle my jimmies.mellow.png (On a sidenote, I agree with Red. Your avatar is ADORABLE!wub.png )

Isn't season 3 supposed to be a story arc?  It's much shorter than the other seasons; it may just have different stuff in it because it's . . . well . . . different itself.

. . . Also, what is "Gak?"  ._.

Gak is this weird substance that Nickelodeon's now selling, kind of like Silly Putty. The reason that everyone's talking about it was it kept being played during the Season 3 premiere, so it's kinda tied with ponies now. (I watched it on Youtube, so I didn't really get it either.)

Also, a little pegasi told me it has something to do with Twilight's progressing studies. True? IDK. But I hope so.

Maybe the writers are losing their "magic touch" for Pinkie Pie, who knows, I never found her funny but bear in mind she's 2nd favorite.

I'm sure you guys know that if we turn this into a weekly analysis of Pinkie Pie, someone's going to find something wrong with how she's used in every single episode, right? The thread will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't think Pinkie's character is being ruined at all. They're focusing heavily on the goofy (well, goofier) side of her so far. That's all it is.

Yeah.

Overall, Pinkie Pie is the source of comic relief in MLP FiM - and I don't think that everyone is going to like all her jokes and stuff all the time.  For example, her bit at the very end of Magic Duel was great, in my opinion, and I loved it - but I'm sure plenty people thought it was stupid, too.  Just like plenty of people liked her puns in One Bad Apple, and vice versa.  Plus, yeah, it is a family show - meaning that everyone and anyone can watch it if they really want to - so that means every now and then, some dumb jokes that would make 8-year-olds or my dad laugh get thrown in there.

Pinkie is becoming a character which we can have a "been-there-done-that" attitude. I think her last episode killed off the last remaining jokes that could work. It was like they made that episode to use them... it's a shame...

Not to the fandom. It's clear that the fandom creates their own content and many base their beliefs of the show in fan-made material, like fics, arts, animations or music. For example, characters like Bon Bon or Octavia hasn't even spoken yet and we all have a popular idea of how their personalities may be, because of the fan-made content.

So I asked this question to you, based in the show only... Let me elaborate better...

We all know that Pinkie is the hyper, happy, party monster character of the show, but on season 3 I've seen Pinkie Pie fracturing the thin line of being hyperactive and fun to being idiotic and characterless.

Since season premiere, I noticed Pinkie being like this, and this disconfort me, because she's not like the Pinkie that I used to love. I felt her crazy antics and jokes to being forced, and totally unfunny, It felt nothing like the effortless funny Pinkie that I saw on season 1 and 2.

Then came out "Too many Pinkies", a Pinkie Pie episode. I felt her being SOOO reckless, she usualy is, but she's wise at the same time even if she doesn't make sense, like in "Feeling Pinkie Keen" or "Green isn't your color", because she knew the consecuences of making copies of herself, did she even thought of what if she was about to do to get rid of these clones? Also, I felt the clones to be really stupid, and since the clones are exactly like her, therefore she's stupid too. Rewatch the clones parts if you don't believe me and see the reactions of Ponyville's villagers, they really hated her XD. The episode was fun though, very WTF for her 4th wall breaking abilities, but she usually do that.

And now, in this episode of the CMC, Pinkie Pie RUINED THE WHOLE EPISODE, even if her lines were very brief and not important in the slightliest, she still had a HUGE impact on me and it impress me how IDIOT she was on that episode, her lines didn't make sense, not in WTF way but in a really STUPID way, her behaviour, her voice, her STUPID puns.

I don't even want to slap her, I want to slap the person who wrote that episode and did that to Pinkie. Anyways, I'm not confortable of what I'm seeing of Pinkie Pie in this season, and I hope to see things getting in place with her, even if she makes cameos during episodes.

I didn't expected this to feel like rant LOL. But I'm curious, what do you think of this?

We have gotten a two episode break from her antics. In magic duel Trixie actually removes her mouth so she can't say anything for the rest of the episode, and today's episode was 100% Pinkie Pie free.

sorry for reviving this old thread but I'm confused about Pinkie Pie...

have you guys seen the Wonderbolts Academy episode? I felt a good balanced Pinkie at the very first part of the episode, very in character when she was nervous for Rainbow Dash. When she used her ULTRA MEGA HUGE ASS megaphone XD was a very funny.

But her mail scenes were very forced again and creepy, she was ...I don't know how to say it, like too obsessed with Rainbow Dash, I didn't feel like she was being Pinkie, it was too forced. And I repeat again it's very hard to explain :/

I mean, is she just that hard to write?
