MLP:FiM Comic Book Series Discussion

I really want to read the comics, but I have no idea where I would get them from. But from what I have seen, yes, they seem darker than the show, which is really cool. We can cover topics in the comics that we never could in the real show.

I actually wouldn't mind some of the characters from the comic appearing in the show. Especially Inkwell from the Celestia one, she's like the Granny Smith of magic.

I do know the comics are keeping Twilight as she is until they see what the show makes of her, so for now the comic is kinda the last bastion for those against twilicorn xD

IDW mentioned the other day that they've seen the Season 4 scripts, and they're comfortable in introducing Twilacorn in the next few issues. 

 

I personally love the comics. They're so well done, and have done a great job in keeping me entertained between the season break. I hear the Micro Series is ending, but they hopefully have plans for way more issues, after all, MLP #1 is the best selling comic book in IDW's history and I'm sure they want to continue. 

 

Edit: Just checked, and issue #13 will be the first appearance of Twilacorn.

I've been getting at the comics since the first one and have read the mini series as well. I haven't been able to get my hands on the most recent two and I can't wait to. I would easily say these are darker than the show. I really enjoy these comics and look back at them fairly often.

I really want to read the comics because, the comics take a different route than the show and have elements that the show would never really have since the comics are not canon.

I honestly wish that the Return of Queen Chrysalis would become canon those were my favorite of the comics by far I love the way Chrysalis actually seemed evil in them

Ok, my sister just got a MLP comic from the book fair at her school and by the looks of it, it is going to be awesome to read. Apparently it is about the return of Princess Chrysalis. Which brought up in my mind. Has anypony else read a good MLP comic? One that you would recommend?

Sad to me, that i never ever ever ever ever see any MLP merchandise in my city as well as travelling around California.

The population of anti bronies is pretty much rising in Southern California.

Even i wish to see one and buy one beside i don't trust internet in buying and shipping stuffs. (Only for downloading stuffs)

I flipped through some of the issues of the Chrysalis arc at a bookstore and they were alright from what I got a chance to read if that counts. I don't know of any other MLP: FiM comics though.

I really don't like the comics. The writing is subar and the pacing of the stories is lame, the darker and edgier aspects are too forced, it repeatedly jumps the shark and the pop-culture references are intrusive and force-fed down your throat.

I would love to read the comic series, I hear that it's absolutely amazing, and from the snaps I've seen of it, it is. I wonder if there is anywhere online that I can read it, if not, I'll just try to find it in stores.

I'm horribly behind on the comics, though I would recommend the Chrysalis arc for being a lot of fun. Some of the Micro series comics like Rarity's are great as well.

thats the big mac comic part one. if you get it, keep an eye on Luna's appearance as you read from panel to panel. its pretty funny.

The Apple Store has a sneek peek into Volume 12 of main series.

(The conclusion of the Shining Armor/Princess Cadence arc)

And the MLP 2013 Annual featuring Equestria Girls.

Included is Sunset Shimmer's past for those who didnt pick up Volume 9 of the main series special edition at San Diego Comic Con this year.

Both are due out from the Apple Store and at local comic book shops on October 30TH.

Spike is next and that issue wont be out till November and the Micro series Concludes with Princess Luna in December.

IDW mentioned at their NYCC Panel of new MLP Comics in 2014 but they didnt specify any details.

That arc is mostly focused on humor.  The story [without spoiling anything] is basically that Big Mac needs a nail to finish a gazebo that he's building, and he has many misadventures on the way.  Luna is briefly involved, but Big Mac is obviously the focus.  I thought that it was fun, but it wasn't my favorite of the main series.

 

For the main series comics, I personally enjoy and recommend the second arc (issues #5-8) with Luna and the entire Mane 6 because of the story.  It's very well written, especially when you get to the third and fourth parts.  All of the other main series arcs are good as well, it's just that the second one is by far my favorite.

 

Most of the micro-series are decent too, but they're kind of hit-or-miss for me.

IDW updated their 2014 Schedule with Volume 15 of the main series and introduces the Friends Forever series of comics.

(Replacing the Micro Series)

Howdy all!

 

Picked up volume 12 of the main Comic today.

 

Got to say it was pretty darned good.

The conclusion to the How Shining Armor met Princess Cadence was great.

No spoliers here but i can tell you its well worth it.

 

Also picked up the MLP Annual #1 Featuring Equestria Girls.

If you like a prequel to the movie then you're in for a treat as it has not only Sunset Shimmer's backstory but the Mane 5 in the human world.

I finally got #12.

I really don't buy this Cadance and Shining Armor story. It's fun and I guess the whole nerd gets the girl thing is more appealing to bronies but to me Shinging Armor seems more like an athlete. He's captain of the royal guard and we saw him coaching some kind of team.

Also if all this happened in "high school" and they've been together since then how the heck could Twilight not know? Did she just forget her and Cadance doing all that...paperwork or whatever they were doing? Shining Armor is her best friend, he never mentioned who he was dating?

 

Anyway, parts that made me laugh were Celestia talking to Cadance and Cheerilee and the Mayor in the background.

From what I've read so far of the comics, only a few issues, I definitely enjoy them. I wasn't all together happy with the way the 3rd season went (it felt a lot different than the first 2 seasons), so the comics had the kind of story development I came to love from the first 2 seasons. I'm hoping the comics stay fabulous because, so far, I look forward to reading them! More Soarin though would be nice. I never get enough of him in the show!

I already read the first story arc the return of Queen Chrysalis and have read two of the four Nightmare Rarity ones also three of the micro series (Twilight, RD, and Rarity). They are very enjoyable to read and if you don't want to buy them Return of Queen Chrysalis, Nightmare Rarity and micro series 1-6 are available to read on imgur.
