Forlong 1,726 January 2, 2014 Share January 2, 2014 I finally got a new review out for the "Nightmare Rarity" arc. Check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5qXAcUzrizEHvorGalU5jg?feature=watch
Neptunefallen 2 January 12, 2014 Share January 12, 2014 (edited) I loved the nightmare rarity arc I made up a painted drawing that took hours to make on my deviant profile. I have it as my phone background lol. I really loved how they went back with Cadance and Shining Armor. I was rewatching the wedding episodes and in the back of my mind thinking of Cadance and Twilight conspiring when they showed them younger. So did anyone else catch that Flash Sentry was missing his wings in the Luna Micro??? Also they are ret-conning things from the books and show now it seems. Twilight's mom is no longer Daring Do's author I suppose. Edited January 12, 2014 by Neptunefallen
MMFAN 198 January 14, 2014 Share January 14, 2014 A lot of the panels and faces the artist draws are so amazing! Like Batman:Killing Joke amazing! I love Twilight's face, it's so incredibly bitter when put with the text.
Dr. Mechano 630 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 So, did anyone else get issue #15 today? It's pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. Twilight, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie magically transport into various books (similar to Power Ponies) to stop a bookworm from eating - and thus destroying - the books' stories. However, to repair the damaged stories, they must reenact the missing segments, and they all proceed to do this incorrectly, leading to hilarious results. Each pony ends up taking the group to a different story; From Pinkie's whacked-out fairy tale (combining everything from Robin Hood to Rapunzel to Cinderella all in the same story) to Rainbow Dash's reenactment of a Daring Do novel. My favorite bit is Rarity's story, which is a sappy romance novel: This stuff is gold. Eventually, the bookworm devours almost everything from these stories, and the comic ends on a cliffhanger as the books' erased characters start sprouting from pods and appearing in the real world, where Applejack, Spike, and Fluttershy are still waiting. One minor issue with continuity is that Daring Do is treated as a fictional character, and even emerges from her book into the "real" world along with other characters. Weirder still is that this comic clearly takes place after Power Ponies, since it references that episode's enchanted comic, so I find it odd that Daring Do is back to being a fictional character. (One explanation, though, is that real-life Daring Do exaggerates her own adventures, and that the Daring Do of the books is a separate character from the real-life A.K. Yearling? I'll go with that to save myself a headache, I guess). Other than that relatively small issue, though, this comic is fantastic! I can't wait to see what happens next month in issue 16. Seriously, if you aren't reading the IDW comics, you should. They're great. One more preview image for the road! Hairity returns. FLAMES!

After all, if the same thing happened in the real world, any famous people created would be different from the real thing, right? And yeah, it was a pretty good issue. Can't wait for next month. Dr. Mechano 630 January 23, 2014 Share January 23, 2014 (edited) So, Friends Forever #1 was released yesterday, and it stars Applejack and Pinkie Pie (these two have had a lot of screentime together recently)! The story is a lot of fun, but feels... unfocused. In a very short period of time, Pinkie enters a cooking contest, Applejack accidentally gets dragged into the same contest (replacing the chef who was supposed to be there), a subplot about a poor restaurant owner comes up, prompting Pinkie and Applejack to let her win before changing their minds and deciding not to patronize her, and then... the real chef shows up with a weaponized frosting blaster and tries to freeze everyone in revenge before being defeated by the other contestants and frozen herself. And then the poor restaurant owner wins the 50,000 bit prize and the comic ends. Okay, Friends Forever #1. Okay. With that said, I did enjoy this comic. It's funny, the character interactions are nice, and the art - with the exception of the occasional odd facial expression, or the fact that the surprise villain is essentially a Fluttershy recolor - is pretty solid. More than the comic itself, though, I love the concept of Friends Forever; The "friendship" episodes of FiM, which focus on two characters and their interactions (rather than focusing on either all six or one central character) are among my favorites in the entire show, and to see a comic that revolves entirely around these kinds of stories is incredibly promising. Character interaction is, to me, the biggest appeal of this series; So I'm definitely hyped to see what the rest of Friends Forever has to offer! As always, I'll leave you with a preview panel, along with my usual endorsement of the IDW comics for anyone who isn't on board yet: This comic was about a cooking contest. Megas 27,699 January 23, 2014 Share January 23, 2014 (edited) This comic somehow managed to be worse than the RD Micro, which says a lot considering that I consider that comic the lowest point in anything FiM related(with a few exceptions like toys) The art is probably is probably the worst in the series(even more so than the Twilight one, at least that one was only hurt by a bad colorist) The dialogue almost rivals the RD micro in terms of badness(complete with a emoticon at one point, seriously) I don't like how the "villain" worked, she gets screwed over at the very beginning and she's painted as the bad guy. Oh and she really looks like a Fluttershy recolor, which sounds really lazy Throughout the majority of the comic it doesn't even feel like it's about Applejack and Pinkie Pie(much less their friendship) The story is all over the place A lot of the new characters were very boring and/or unlikable Congratulations Rainbow, you no longer have the worst comic ever! Seriously, what the hell happened? What's even more disappointing is that the team behind this one sound like genuine fans of the series with a lot of great ideas in mind(one involving Rainbow and Rarity else in an Around the World in 80 days adventure and one involving Twilight and the Midnight Library). But after reading this, I don't know if I want to see that anymore... Edited January 23, 2014 by Megas75
SanityNotIncluded 335 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 Okay guys, I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I have some questions about the comic series: 1. As far as I can tell, all the main issues and micro-issues are available on the Itunes store for $2 a pop. Presumably, this is the cheapest price I can get them at right? Also, is it worth it given the small iphone screen size? 2. Do I have to read them in order for any particular reason? If not, where should I start and which are the best issues? I was already thinking of getting the Luna micro, but I wasn't sure about the others. Also, on a more specific note, is the Celestia one any good? Thanks!
TwilightDreamer 69 January 26, 2014 Share January 26, 2014 I got a few comics, 4 to be precise and I have to say, they're pretty amazing on their own right. I don't know if the ones showing Chrysalis and her second defeat and her new plan to finish off the Mane 6 are canon but it is possible, I've no idea whatsoever on the subject. Misty Shadow 7,910 January 26, 2014 Share January 26, 2014 I actually own the comic containing the first four issues with the Chrysalis arc and I've read the comic with the Luna/Nightmare Rarity arc now. So far, I am liking these books. https://www.deviantart.com/frank3dz/art/A-day-to-remember-1140892930 (seriously guys, read this comic, it's hilarious)
lavender_rhyme 39 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 For the person who asked about where to start and cost. You do not have to read them all you can start with issue 15 which came out this month it is the beginning of a new story arc. Comixology is a great way to get them they have an iPhone app and everything. I saw them for 1.99 on there over the weekend. Reading comics on iPhones is not bad especially with the app it takes you panel by panel. I would by issue 15 and see how you like it. Jokuc 8,174 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Well I have issue 9-14 which I bought when I was at Flipturn in london. I have read all of them except one now and I must say that they are much better than I expected them to be! I have really enjoyed to read all of them, however I must say that the Luna one (issue 10) was the funniest and best one. I hope I will be able to get the other issues online or something

I think it is, but I have no idea if it's worth it or not. I prefer physical copies, they look much better in person than on a screen. 2. You don't have to read them in any order, but I'd recommend reading all of the main series issues so far. The micros on the other hand are hit-and-miss. Personally I think the Luna one was the best, and Celestia's was pretty good too. But you want to stay away from the RD micro. It is awful. 1 Signature made by Wheatley

I'm picking these up in Trade Kindle editions through Amazon. They have free Kindle apps that will run on different platforms, so you don't have to buy a Kindle to use it. Volume 1 (which is issues 1-4 of the main comic) was $7.99. It works out about the same as the iTunes price, but I don't have to deal with iTunes (I had a bad experience with iTunes once, and I don't want to use that service again). Drawback is that I'm a bit behind because I have to wait for the Trade compilations to publish, or pay a slightly higher price for individual issues.

FlutterDash4072 189 January 31, 2014 Share January 31, 2014 Okay, finally got Friends Forever 1 and... it wasn't worth the wait. Too much stuff was packed into it for its own good. If they had focused on Evil Fluttershy's attempt to ruin the contest it might have been alright. The other subplots were very boring. The dialogue was also very bad. Aside from the names of dishes and other food stuff, it was very childish. I felt like I was reading a book meant specifically for kids just learning to read. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's worse than the RD micro though. But that might be because of my bias as a Dash fan. When something bad involves my favorite pony, it's much more disappointing than when something bad involves the two ponies I don't care much for. Jokuc 8,174 February 3, 2014 Share February 3, 2014 I have been lazy and have not read all the comics I bought at london yet. Anyways, I read the one with Cadance and Shining Armor and I actually thought it was pretty good x) Better than I expected. It was about them being in school and stuff and I liked the idea about having a flashback like that. I also loved how they threw in lots of references
