The Mane Six and the Sorting Hat (Discussion)

Now, quite apart from the fact, that they would probably have Voldemort sorted out by book 3, how would the (humanized) Mane Six fit in in Hogwarts? What houses would they been assigned to? For bonus internet-money, give your take on how they'd fit in with the books' cast.

My take:

Twilight: Ravenclaw

Pretty much the situation Hermoine was in: Smarts enough for Ravenclaw, courage enough for Gryffindor. Maybe even ambition enough for Slytherin. It's a pretty tough call, but I think pre-show Twilight would choose Ravenclaw, simply because of it's reputation for excellence. Would probably constantly butt heads with Hermoine. Only student in the castle to get along well with Madam Pince. Also gushes about Lockhart.

Favourite Class: All of them  *squee*

 

 

 

Applejack: Hufflepuff

In my opinion the easiest call:reliable, hard working, compassionate, gets along well with just about anyone. Could kinda see her going out with Cedric.

Favourite Class: Herbology

 

 

Pinkie Pie: Hufflepuff

Would probably freak out the Sorting head somewhat. I'd say Hufflepuff, for her disposition (she would probably qualify for Gryffindor, but I imagine she'd choose Hufflepuff). Would probably hang out with Fred, George and Lee a lot. Finds her way into the kitchen by day two. Goes prospecting for Snorkacks with Luna.

Favourite Class: Not sure, maybe Charms

 

 

Rainbow Dash: Gryffindor

Would probably refuse to take of the hat until it sorted her into Gryffindor. Gets into the Quidditch team the same way Harry did (except she also punched Draco in the face). Proceeds to singlehandily win the Quidditch cup every year with less than a minute play time per match. Probably hangs out with the other players a lot. Spends all of Goblet of Fire stalking Krum.

Favourite Class: Quidditch is totally a class! Defence against the Dark Arts.

 

 

Fluttershy: ?

I guess either Hufflepuff of Gryffindor, really not sure here. Would hang out with Hagrid and Luna a lot.

Favourite Class: Care for Magical Creatures

 

Rarity: Slytherin

Some might disagree here, but Rarity has shown that she does know what she wants and how to get it. I could also see her being proud of being a pure-blood, while not discriminating halfbloods or muggle-born (if that makes sense to you). Would still hang out with the other Mane Six though, can't see her get along with any of the named Slytherins.

I think Fluttershy would more likely be in Gryffindor, Because Fluttershy kinda reminds me of Neville Longbottom they both are kinda shy and awkward but are willing to be brave and show courage for their friends. Just think about Fluttershy in the episode "Dragonshy"

You know I would offer my take on the situation but I agree with pretty much everything you said. The only difference is that I would put Pinkie in Gryffindor ( all the rule breakers end up there) and her favorite class would probably be divination. She even does some on it in the show in It's About Time!

I don't know. Ravenclaws seem seem to value performing well above (almost) everything else. That doesn't seem like Fluttershy to me.

I was really close to putting her there too, but my guess is, that Neville really wanted to be in Gryffindor to become brave like his parents, whereas Fluttershy would probably be terrified to be sorted in a house that expects her to be brave.

Hmm, you make a good point about the rule breaking thing. Didn't think of that.

Pinkie: "My Madame Pinkie outfit, do you like it? It was so much fun to put together"

Trelawney: "Child, unraveling the strands of the future isn't about fun."

Late that year:

Twilight: "That's it: This class is a waste of time. I'm leaving."

Pinkie, twitching: "Watch out for opening doors,Twilight."

Twilight, looking over her shoulder: "Pinkie, I told you-"

Late-to-Class Rainbow Dash pushes open trapdoor, Twilight falls down ladder.

Twilight, offscreen: "This proves nothing!"

I've noticed that there are a lot of people who seem to equate Slytherin with teh evulz; not true. Peter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor and was bad. Severus Snape was a Slytherin and wasn't. I can certainly see Rarity in Slytherin and making fabulous dresses in the Slytherin colours of green and silver. XD She'd be the belle of the Yule Ball!

Rarity walked up next to the hat and looked at it wearily.

"Now now no need to be afraid I don't bite." The hat said in a friendly manner

"I refuse to put on this crime against fashion!" Rarity stated firmly while taking a step back.

The Sorting hat looked as offended as a talking hat could. "I beg your pardon!" It said obviously offended.

"You mustn't insult the Sorting Hat dearie. It's old and wise and although it may be a little frayed it is more then capable of doing its job." McTrotagul advised her voice starting to have an edge.

"No."

"If you aren't sorted you can't stay here."

Rarity paused and looked thoughtful. "Well I suppose I could put it on if...." Her horn glowed and a needle and thread hovered out of her robe's pocket. 

"Now wait just a second!" The hat shouted as a McTrotagul's hat flew off her head and the seams fell apart. 

"Young Lady!" McTrotagul started as the brand new fabric from the hat covered the Sorting hat and was sown on, (leaving of course holes for the mouth.)

Rarity smiled and examined her work. "There! its not my best work but it will do." And with that Rarity levitated the hat onto her head. "Oh the Inside is nasty! I must fix this at once!" 

The hat's mouth formed into an expression of fear before shouting. "SLYTHERIN! NOW GO AWAY AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" 

 

As Rarity was drug struggling to her table as she shouted about not being finished AppleJack walked up to the hat and put it on. "Gez what a fuss bucket. This ain't nasty at all."

Pinkie Pie's favourite class should surely be Divination, I mean it just makes sense seen as she has that Pinkie Sense. She'd do well in that class.

McTrotagul looked sadly at the remains of her hat as AppleJack walked towards the Hufflepuff table. That had been a nice hat. "Next up a Miss Fluttershy." 

There was a panicked "Eep!" From the group of new students and one of them vanished beneath a table. 

"Oh come on Fluttershy!" A awesome Rainbow colored pony said loudly. "All you have to do is go up there and have a hat put on your head.

There was some frightened squeaking followed by a panicked voice saying. "I don't want everypony looking at me! What if the hat can't find a place for me and everyone laughs? What if" The Rainbow colored Pegasus grabbed the yellow pony by the tail and proceeded to drag her up to the stool before setting the hat down on her head.

"Hello there." The hat said nicely. Fluttershy didn't respond but instead stiffened up and fell over crushing the hat. "owwwwww. Hufflepuff." The yellow Pegasus didn't move and remained petrified. 
"I'll get her." AppleJack offered walking up and throwing the adorable pony over her shoulder before walking back to the Hufflepuff table.

 

Rainbow Dash landed and whipped her mane back as the clapping died down. "Yea I know what you're thinking. Might as well go ahead and sort the totally awesome pony while she's up here." McTrotagul looked in surprise at the pony she had forgotten about. "So I'm just gonna go ahead and cut the suspense on which house gets to have me in it, I'm gonna say there'res only one house cool enough for me and that's Gryffindor!"

As the Gryffindor table cheered enthusiastically McTrotagul cleared her throat. 

"Oh right. I guess I had better put on the hat to make it official. he he, just a sec!" RD grabbed the hat and slammed in onto her head. "Just put me in Gryfindor and lets move on!"

The sorting hat put on a Troll face before replying. "I Don't know. You've got a lot of loyalty to your friends. I"m thinking you may do well in Hufflepuff." Rainbow Dash's mouth fell open. HUF-GRYFFINDOR!" 

The hall erupted into cheering and a few firecrackers were launched from the Gryffindor table as Rainbow Dash took off and flew a victory lap around the hall before sitting at her new place at the table.

 

"Oh the books don't say anything about how the Sorting hat Sorts you!" Twilight Sparkle said in a panicked voice as Rainbow Dash's applause died down. "Come on! There has to be something somewhere!" She continued as she flipped through the books she had brought in her pockets.

"Don't you worry Twilight! It can't be too bad!" Pinkie Pie advised with a big smile on her face. "I wonder what house I'll be in? Gryffindor sounds fun! But so does Slytherin and Hufflepuff! I wonder If Raven Claw has good parties or if the're all boring?" 

 

"Miss Pinkimena Dian Pie." McTrotagul called loudly.

Pinkie Pie jumped in the air before bouncing over to the stool. "Oh this is gonna be fun! I've never met a talking hat before!" 

"Uhhhh."

"Do you know any good jokes? I know this great one about hats but you might find it offensive but I could cut out the offensive parts but that would make the joke not funny, I know I'll tell the one about the boot and the...."

"MISS PIE!" McTrotagul was forced to shout to make herself heard.

Pinkie Pie giggled. "Oh yea sorting, got it!" She then put the hat on her head.

"Well quite the mind we have here and..." The hat was cut off by a loud snort. "Is something funny? 

Pinkie Pie nodded. "I was just thinking of how funny it would be to have a talking pair of boots." 

"As I was saying..."

"So what's it like being a hat? Do you get mad when people don't wash their manes or do you not care?"

"it's one of my pet peeves."

Pinkie Pie gasped. "I know! Once there was this time AppleJack forgot to wash her mane and Rarity was all....

"FOR MERLIN'S SAKE STOP TALKING!" The hat shouted.

Pinkie Pie frowned before replying. "Okay I am not gonna talk any more. No more talking from Pinkie Pie. Gonna stay quiet and let you decide where to put me. No more talking."

"GRYFFINDOR! AND WHY IS EVERYONE AT THIS SORTING SO WEIRD?"

 

As Pinkie Pie bounced off to the Gryffindor table McTrotagul looked at her list. "Miss Twilight Sparkle."

Twilight approached the stool nervously as notes and pieces of paper fell out of her pocket as she walked. Shoving her books back into robes she looked sheepishly up at McTrotagul. "Sorry I've looked in all my books and haven't found anything about how this test works. Do you have a manual?" 

The Hat looked over at Twilight and shared a nod with McTrotagul. "RavenClaw!" It shouted without even having her put it on.

"But don't I need to have the hat put on my head? The book said..." Twilight protested as McTrotagul pushed her towards the Raven Claw table.

 

Clearing her throat McTrotagul looked at her list and quietly murmured. "I hope the rest of them are a little saner then those six."

Rarity could probably go into Ravenclaw too. I think she'd be very insulted by being put in Slytherin and would tell the hat no. She does have alot of qualities that make a Slytherin though. Which isn't inherently bad...except that in the canon world of HP, apparently Slytherins are mostly just evil, bad people (which I've always found a little ridiculous).

 

Also you guys don't think Applejack would be in Gryffindor? She's brave, loyal, and honest, and she's definitely a mare of action like Rainbow Dash.

Pinkie - Hufflepuff

Fluttershy - Hufflepuff

Twilight - Ravenclaw

Rarity - Ravenclaw/Slytherin...

i mean, it isn't totally canon bad, but the only real saviors of it are snape, regulus black (who we never actually meet) and slughorn...and slughorn just kinda...leaves during the final battle with voldemort...and all the slytherins leave with him.

 

it's like rowling tells you 'hey now, slytherins aren't all bad' and then gives us one big character who isn't, and a handful of extremely minor characters who are alright at best. but the rest of them are written as horrible people or death eaters.

 

either way, rarity wouldn't abandon her friends in a fight against the dark forces.

Definitely the biggest stereotype in the entire series. Sure, they've turned out the most evil witches and wizards, but that's just because their ambition gets the better of them. If they can channel that ambition correctly, I imagine they could be very successful.

I think it was implied that some returned later during the final fight. but yeah, I wished there had been some positively portrayed Slytherins in the books, maybe just one guy in the DA.

And of course Rarity would still fight for her friends, the Hat did mention that if Slytherins consider you a friend, then they stand with you.

I don't think Twilight would see the point of Gryffindor. It has produced some great people of course, but it also has a reputation for not obeying the rules (something Twilight is terrified of) and, let's be honest bravery bordering on foolhardiness (which Twilight would certainly not approve off).

Well, I don't think Rowling intended Slytherin to be all bad, but she didn't do a very good job odf showcasing it (except for Regulus and I think some of the people returning to Hogwarts for the final fight).

I love the idea of ponies in Hogwarts! Although, wouldn't it be like Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns? It's still unicorns only who can use magic.   Or are we talking humanized ponies?
