Is Discord actually Starswirl the Bearded?

There is a rumor that Discord is apparently Star Swirl the Bearded,

It seems a little far-fetched at first but the evidence seems to really add up.

 

It would most likely be the season finale methinks.

It's funny because the orange frog was the first thing that caught my attention. What if it lays eggs?

 

Anyway, yes, It totally adds up. It seems the most likely but then again, you can't be completely sure. 

But what did he do when he was a bearded wizard pony? Did he spy on Celestia and Co.? Was he thinking up another devious scheme? Find out, in the episodes of My little Pony! Friendship is Magic.

I wouldn't mind this rumor being true it actually sounds pretty cool, but I highly doubt that this is the case. Though it does feel more authentic than the last rumor. Though that may just be because its more detailed.

I kinda hope it isn't, as I had wanted Starswirl to be separate from Discord. It's hard to explain, but I wanted Starswirl to have an epic introduction were he to be introduced, not be the same person as Discord. But I do like this theory and wouldn't mind it either.

Well, he lived before Celestia and Luna came to power, so I'd imagine that he's been dead for over 1000 years by the time FiM takes place.  

 

But if Discord is Starswirl, all changes.  Discord is certainly coming back.  John de Lancie confirmed that  a few months ago.  A couple people got worried that Discord's appearance in a Hasbro ad ("Naughty or Nice") was the only thing de Lancie voice acted for and that the draconequus wouldn't reappear again.  I think that we shouldn't be worried about that.  Hasbro wouldn't reintroduce him if he wasn't coming back, sort of like how Trixie began to be shown in Hasbro advertisements in the few months before her return.

 

If Discord turns out to be Starswirl, than all of Equestrian history will be flipped on its head.  The implications would be...astounding, and the likely ensuing collapse of Twilight's old worldview would make for quite the season finale.

 

As to whether it's real or not: Again, I find it highly unlikely that a guy from Hasbro just randomly decided to leak this info.  However, it's info that that a simple troll or attention hog wouldn't use.  It's so crazy that it just might come true...

Thats not a bad idea if you ask me. I for one have wanted to learn more about Starswirl and this is a very good way to use. Starswirl was a powerful unicorn and he could have used a spell to turn him into Discord. This is a good idea. Now we just have to wait and see if it is true.

While all of these things could be plausible. The major thing that stops it is that the source is broken. Good ol' 404. 

 

Now, while I would love to see this myself, (a little less knowing that he could be Starswirl beforehand), but it all just sounds like a good fanfic only.

I read about this a while back. Although quite fascinating and potentially awesome if true, we need to mind our sources. A more official source would be required before I would accept this as fact.

While it seems rather far-fetched, this is a very interesting head canon concept. I can already feel my mind ogling the possibilities.

 

Starswirl was a prodigy unlike any of his time, in that he was so adept at magic that he began creating magic spells as advanced as time travel, which to this day are still kept in the archives of all unicorns. At some point down the line, he somehow became corrupted by either his own choice or simply due to accident, by way of consumption in powerful magic, and dangerous, unstable spells. The reality-warping magic turned him from a pony into something else entirely; his mind, body and powers all changed drastically.

 

It would explain why he's so old.

 

I still kinda prefer my 'he's the embodiment of chaos, and has been around since the beginning of time' concept, though, as simple and maybe uninteresting in comparison as it is.

In reference to "being around since the beginning of time," who's to say he didn't just time-travel back to the beginning of time? Hell, he might have started time in the first place, just so he could have something to do for eternity.

This is awesome, I was talking with my brother the other day that I thought that Discord wasn't always a draconequus. Being a pony made sense, or at least as much sense as Discord can  make.

Hmmm I like this idea yet I don't. I would LOVE an episode that explains Discord's backstory and origins but if this is it...ehhh it could be kinda cool if they do it right. I mean it does kinda make sense. If Starswirl was really that powerful then, like Luna, he would probably become corrupted and betray Celestia. The main thing I don't like is that from the lines listed it seems Discord might not appear in his draconequus form all that much. Ehh I guess it's not that big of a deal and he'll probably become a draconequus by the end or something but still one of the best things about Discord [at least for me anyway] is his design. Of course this could all be fake and we are exited over nothing but you never know.

I suspect, however, that if these "leaked" lines are true, then it basically comes down to Starswirl gradually losing his mind and becoming the monster known as Discord.

In either one of those scenarios, Starswirl would then be known to have surpassed an alicorn in power, being only a unicorn. Twilight may very well do the same, if she doesn't become an alicorn herself, but Starswirl was probably the first.
