Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!

I'm sad to say I've been falling out of my faith a lot as of late, and I'm trying to rebuild my relationship with God to what it once was. I'm filled with shame and regret for my actions, and I humbly ask for your prayers, my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ...

I'm kind of in the same situation. It can sometimes be hard or sometimes easy

My best suggestion is surround yourself with any friends for your local church, or even this thread.

That alone will help boast your commitment to God.

are there any agnostics here?

Ehhh kind of? I do believe there is a Divinity but of course I could be wrong, that's why we call it faith. Hence the "kind of" qualifier. No one KNOWS if the Divine exists so we're all agnostics to one degree or another even if we don't call ourselves that.

I'm at 51% that something exists (a god or an afterlife) and 49% that nothing exists. also I know that I don't know if any of that is true or not.

You know...I've been having thoughts on starting a live stream podcast that is directed to this thread. I like to talk about

our faith in God and connect as a family under God's name :)

I never felt that god loves me if he exists of course

That's fine.

And honestly I feel its better than the alternative of blindly believing or pretending.

Its healthy to have doubts, and try to satisfy them.

I don't think God wants us to be fake.

The bible is full of stories of people who cried out honestly to God about their doubts and struggles.

I certainly can't prove anything to you, but if you read the bible a bit, you get a picture of God's character, and it's easier to recognize something in your life as being God if you know what he is like.  If you haven't already read the book of John, its a great place to start.

No matter what you do, I applaud your critical eye.

Me kinda responding to this if you don't mind.

The problem I've had with this approach is

1) when I have tried reading it, from the start of new testament. With Genesis what have you. I get different views of God that are quite a bit different than what most christians see.

2) try to match what I gather from the bible with what I see around me is likely prone to bias where I am actively searching for what read. That's not to say it's not a valid method. It's to say its not ideal. Id prefer to go down a path that demonstrates why I should take the bible seriously. Rather than trying to take it seriously and prove it then.

Verse of the week:

1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Well said.  I'm in pretty general agreement with you.

regarding #1, It would be nice if christians exhibited good theology at all times, but that just isn't the case.  Getting a foundation of your view of God from the bible allows you parse it on your own, and on your own timing.  Then, when you see christians acting differently, you can red flag it and use your brain to check if you are missing something, or if they are making a mistake.

My current working MO is to take as truth the things in the bible which are clear, and to be mindful of the various reasonable interpretations of the bible when it comes to interacting with others.  If someone else has a strong view that I disagree with, but it isn't clearly contradicted by the bible, I typically just let them have that view and move on.  Typically these revolve around subjects of lesser importance, and unity is more important than proving the exact answer to a challenging question RIGHT NOW.

regarding #2, I wish I had stated myself with a more balanced approach.  people will all have a different threshold for gaining trust in the bible, and when they need to achieve that level of trust. For some people, it might take intensive study into the history of the book to be satisfied, and others may want to dive in with curiosity, with the plan to satisfy themselves of its authenticity later if they end up deciding to take it seriously.   It's more a matter of your personality, than one of their being a single correct approach.

@@alpinefroggy,

So wait, @@weesh, applauds being critical and says doubt is healthy (which I also believe) and you're in turn critical of that approach?

lol, it sounds funny when you say it that way, but I don't see anything wrong with his post.

because I am so passionate about being critical, I enjoy it when people are critical of me as well, and I certainly don't claim the market on truth, even about being critical!

When i teach sunday school to 4th graders, I often tell the kids that they should learn to think critically on their own (while giving them tools for this), and to question teachers, including me, when something doesn't sound right.

@@weesh,

Critical of being critical of being critical, this is quickly reaching ouroboros levels.

heh.

more accurately, i'm NOT critical of being critical of being critical. : )

but I might be critical of people being critical of being critical of being critical.

round and round it goes!

I think it's my time to say hello since I'm a christian too.

Hello! I've been quite shy about my Christianity because of reasons. Nice to meet you all though!
