Starshine 16,334 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 (edited) As title, do you spend a moment to read the entire thread before you post? Do you meticulously read each and all replies to fully understand what the hell is everybody talking about before writing your reply so you won't make a fool of yourself? Or maybe you simply skimmed the entire thread to make sure that no one had posted the same thing you would like to post in the thread? Or maybe you just click the thread, read the 1st post, reply in it anyway without reading past the 1st page, and then forget that the thread even exist in the first place? I always try to at least read everyone's post before posting. It happens quite a lot that what I want to post is already posted by someone else before me, so I can only give him/her a brohoof and watch the thread from the side, twiddling my thumbs like a weirdo. For the long-ass threads like those in the Episode Discussion, I can only fully read the first 5 or six pages before I switched gear into skimming mode. I get bored real quick when lots of people posted the same thing over and over again. :c Edited January 6, 2013 by Starshine
Dusty Soul 2,611 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I don't usually go past the second page. i'll read the entire post, but I won't read all the replies. I go back to the discussion sometimes to see where it's going. Soundcloud-------------------Facebook---------------------------Youtube
Leafeon 2,702 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Depends. If it's a Forum game, hell no. But most posts I generally just skim them. Always read all of the first post though. Obviously. Heart's Desire 181 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Yeah, it all depends. 90% of the time I try to read the whole thing. 9% of the time I skim, and that last 1% is usually when I get sick of people saying the same thing over and over again and sometimes I don't even bother posting on those. Broccoli 127 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Well it depends on the thread. If its a very long thread, like one of those pinned ones, then I would just make a post, but I usually read a couple of other posts first before making my own. The last time I remembered reading a whole thread was the "terrible terrible puns", I think was the name of the thread. There were several pages of hilarious puns so I just read them before posting mine to ensure no repeats were made. Another time which I have read a whole thread was in the life advice section. People gave some very helpful suggestion to the person who made the thread and it was worth a short read. However if a thread is like, 50 pages long, I have better things to do than to read the whole thing -"My little pony, not yours!"
D1SC0RD 987 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I typically read the first 3-5 pages (usually that is all the thread is by the time I show up) so I understand the jist of the conversation. It is sometimes easier to comment on a thread by quoting someone, and giving your 2-cents on their words. Typically, I brohoof the posts I agree with, think of things I can add to what people say, or disagree and provide my reasons. If a thread is longer than 10 pages, I typically will not post (unless all other posts won't influence mine, ex: "What is your sexuality?" thread). But sometimes if a thread is super long, I will just check out the first and last page without posting. I feel everything there is to say has been said, so I don't make an effort to contribute. Shanks 10,816 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Depends on the subject, if it is a short thread I will most likely read everything but if it is longer I will just read enough to get a general idea. Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Bronium 512 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I really don't reply unless I'm on the first page. After that, it's likely someone already posted my opinion. Though, in the end, it comes down to how much I care about the topic. This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?
Yourmomsponies 444 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I usually read the OP then the first page and last page then reply. Gives you a good feel for where the thread has gone/will go. Zygen 6,066 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I almost always read all the 1st page replies, Depending on how interested I am I may read all the replies currently there, it also depends on how many pages there are. I do most of the time read or atleast skim through all the 1st page posts. Sometimes reading a whole thread is just to time consuming or I just don't feel like it. 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Scootalove 10,689 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I usually just read the comments that are interesting to me and brohoof them. Feather Gem 967 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Sometimes, if the topic is short. (like two pages) I might read it all if it interests me. If its really long, I usually won't post since my post will get lost in it anyway. Unless I really want to. But then if its long I might read the first page. An Old Head 4,816 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I'll read the first post in its entirety, then when I've decided how I want to respond to the thread, I'll just brush over the following posts to check that my point hasn't already been said, in which case I'll just brohoof their post. Winona the Dog 1,984 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Depends on how big the thread is. Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Not unless it's necessary for producing a decent reply. If it's a discussion that actually progresses (in that the later replies would have developed upon what was originally said) then of course I would have to read the thread in order to add anything meaningful. However if it's what I might call a non-progressive thread then I probably wont read all the posts. Also, I generally skip over all posts that fail to use decent grammar. 1 LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply. truemlp_fan98 20 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I don't read EVERY post, that'd be ridiculous... I read quickly through the thread every time though. It's good netiquette to do so.
Betez 1,734 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Well, not if it's something like General Chat Thread. If it's 1 or 2 pages, then yes, I will read the entire thread before posting. I try to read the entire first post, and then speed-read through the first couple of replies. Master Blade the Bearded 112 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I read all of the original post, and, depending on what it is about, I usually read all the replies (if there aren't too many of them. If there's a lot, I read some, and skim most.) If it is a thread asking your personal opinion (like this one), I will read some, then reply, as other's posts do not affect mine. Haven Celestii 9,385 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Reading the entire thread before posting? I sometimes have my moments where I barely manage to make it through the OP, let alone the entire thread. Like I just did here. Do you meticulously read each and all replies-- I stopped there. :3 It honestly really depends. If the topic of the thread is fully explained in just the title, then I usually just post my opinion on that topic without much reading. I do, however, read the OP first usually. If I need to go further to fully understand the thread then I will. I also read more if I'm actually interested in the other posts.
Harmonic Revelations 8,835 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 I'll read the entire thing if it's three pages or shorter. If it's longer I'll read the first page plus the most recent page, unless I have reason to read more.
Moon Rat 4,772 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 In all honesty... I really kind of don't. I'll read a few replies from the beginning of the page but then I just proceed onto posting my thoughts (like I just now did ) mostly because my memory is short and usually I'll have something really smart planned out when I find an interesting topic, but when I try reading through ALL the replies (or even half the first page) all that planning tends to automatically get thrown out into the wastebin of forgetfulness and I lose it forever :/ Thank you Nas for the sig :3 #HugWoona
Twiliscael 3,960 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 (edited) I skim through all the posts in the thread, as long as it isn't some insanely long thread. I get to know the opinions of people know, learn more about people I don't know, and get a general idea of where the discussion is going and has already been. Also, I skip over any post that has poor grammar and or spelling, regardless of who said it or why. Edited January 7, 2013 by Twiliscael I tend to take the high road, get stoned, and fly low . . . Retro*Derpy 3,186 January 6, 2013 Share January 6, 2013 Depends on how intriguing I think the topic at hand is. Lets say the topic is about subject A and I like subject A. Than I will read though quite a bit of posts to see everyone's input. But than I see subject B. I can still post something related about subject B, but I won't go through and read more than 2-4 posts.
