My parents were quite lenient when it came to TV. They didn't really mind. However they were quite wary on 'certain' video games...

Well, Edd Ed and Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, and Robot Chicken were banned.

Oddly enough, I was allowed to watch Family Guy, Ren and Stimpy, Mr.Meaty, and the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.

My parents kind of just let us whatch whatever. I mean, they didnt like us watching Family Guy and American Dad as children, but now they dont really care.

 

 

Seriously though, If my parents would have banned things like Ed, Edd and Eddy and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends or Codename: Kids Next Door, I would probably have killed myself. Cartoon Network was my life as a kid, I could never part.

 

Though, because of my current obbsession over it, I think my parents might end up banning Adventure Time ( And possibly MLP because my brother loves it and my mom doesn't like that he watches it...) in my house... If this happens.... ;-;

My parents banned Spongebob SquarePants because they thought it was stupid and didn't want us to watch stupid things. My favorite show in elementary school was Mythbusters. 

 

Otherwise, my parents let us determine what we wanted to watch. We eventually got rid of our cable, because we only watched a few scattered shows across channels, making it cheaper to simply get them online.

Ren and Stimpy, Cartoon Sushi, and Celebrity Deathmatch were three shows I wasn't supposed to watch.

 

Though my dad would let me "sneak" Celebrity Deathmatch once in a while.

I'm pretty sure Family Guy and The Simpsons goes without saying, but the show I find the weirdest to be not allowed to watch was Power Rangers. They claimed it was too violent, yet had absolutely no qualms with me and my siblings watching shows like Dragonball Z, Bleach or Gundam Seed. for some reason. Of course, since there was a TV in the basement, I watched all three anyway, just had to be really quick in changing the channel anytime someone came downstairs.

It's all coming back to me, actually. I got to watch it at first, then my parents saw a scene with a graveyard and instantly thought it wasn't okay for me and my brother. (Overly protective, I know)

 

Anyways, now I can't even get into it. Stupid over-protectiveness. ;-;

I don't recall my parents banning any cartoons when I was a kid. My Mom had a tendency to believe things on the news so Mortal Kombat was banned (though my brother bought it anyway), Ouiji boards were banned, and Dungeons and Dragons. She was certain that the old urban legends about DnD were true, and I think she was just afraid of the Ouiji boards.

 

She's over all of that now, though.

 

But I was watching South Park when it first came out, I've been watching the Simpsons since 1989, and I even remember Liquid Television. I couldn't have been more than 10 at the time.

 

I can't imagine any parent not liking Fairly Odd Parents, I love that show. I will say that my Mom hates Anime, but that's because we used to watch Speed Racer as kids and it annoyed her. She'd never refuse to let us watch it, she'd just prefer not to be in the room.

I don't really remember having any TV shows banned in my childhood. But, I do feel sad when most people couldn't have a childhood because their tv shows were banned by their parents.

As for me, I pretty much grew up on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog reruns and Dragon Ball Z in my early childhood, and Spongebob and The Fairly Oddparents in my early teenage years.

Anything on Teen-Nick was banned for quite a while in my house, but my parents forgot about the ban a bit later.

 

But the reason they banned it in my house is because one time when I was around ten I was watching some sort of show and there was kiss scene in it, so my dad got mad about it. He banned me from ever watching that channel ever again in the house.

 

I watch worse shows like South Park, American Dad, and Family Guy, but usually I watch them on my computer so they won't find out that I watch those shows. But for some reason they are fine with me watching Big Bang Theory, and King of the Hill for some odd reason.

 

Anyways after the ban on Teen-Nick, my parents put locks on mine and my sisters TVs so we can't watch anyhow with the rating MA. AND to this day, I still haven't figured out how to unlock it yet.

When I was around 5-8 years old, I remember my mom not letting me watch The Simpsons. She would literally make my brother go into our room and lock the door on me so that he could watch it without me (he was 5 years older than me). Never really understood why. Looking back on it, I don't actually think I would have gotten any of the jokes and so I would have been really bored with it.

 

My dad didn't care what I watch but I do remember that he told me not to watch Family Guy when I was around the same age. That still didn't stop me and he basically gave up on that haha. By the time I was like 9 years old, I had complete freedom of the television.

 

When I started to turn into an anime lover, my dad sort of had a biased opinion against it, saying that the Japanese offer more violence and sexuality, which it all depends on what kind of anime you watched. He did seem to enjoy Dragonball Z though. He probably thought shirtless screaming primates who turned yellow was amusing to him.

Yeah, I have to say that is unfortunate because the new ones are horrible, but the first few seasons were awesome.

 

I have to admit that, though I was able to watch whatever I wanted I would not let my kids (when I have them) watch south park and other cartoons intended for adults until I felt they were mature enough to handle it. I had to grow up fast, as they say, so by the time I went to live with my Mom she knew I wasn't going to be getting ideas from the show or acting crazy or whatever it is parents are afraid of.

 

But when I had my 12 year old nephew asked me if St. Peter was a rabbit and then had to explain the concept of satire to him (which I don't think he got) my first thought was "he is way too young to be watching South Park."

Watching it years afterward, though, I thought the movie was pretty badass and I liked some of the bold choices made.  They didn't just kill off *a* main character, They killed off, by my count *six* of them, though Prime was the most important.  Plus showing the dead bodies of two more. 

 

To me, the most shocking moment in the film wasn't the death of Optimus Prime.  It was when the decepticons boarded the Autobot shuttle and completely *massacred* Brawn, Prowl, Ratchet, and Ironhide.  Personally I always enjoyed the darker turn taken by the 1986 movie.

I still remember that any derivative of Dragon Ball was banned in my house. I finally got into the series when I was a teen, though.

 

I'm still happy that none of my favorite shows were banned in my house. My parents allowed me to watch pretty much anything on Cartoon Network and Nick.

Heh, when I was six my parents wouldn't let me watch Powerpuff Girls or anything else on Cartoon Network because it was "too violent" And now I'm in my mid-teens and I watch stuff like Lord of the Rings (it's pretty violent by some standards, like the scene where they were throwing heads as weapons).

As far as I remember, I've always been banned from Adult Swim on Cartoon Network for some reason. *shrug* It didn't really stop me when I was over a friend's house and I stayed up all night watching Gundam Wing. XD

 

Other than that...my parents are still a bit annoyed with Family Guy and South Park, though I'm pretty sure they just don't care anymore. I'm 19, man. I need better stuff to watch.
