Idea for subsection addition to the Everfree Forest section

Well it's obvious that we have a handful of debate topics pertaining to politics and such.

 

Reading one topic about people's thoughts on debate topics, I thought that maybe we should develop a politics subsection in the Everfree Forest.

 

It wouldn't hurt I guess, more organization, plus the political stuff won't gum up other sections. Users that don't enjoy the debates will be pleased to have the politics separate.

 

Just some ideas that I wanted to give to the forum.

The staff's reaction then was that it most likely wasn't worth it, because the activity of the debate section would probably not be active enough in comparison to the other forums and subforums to be worth it. I'm not sure if Feld0 and Zoop may feel different about that now that we're several levels more active with many more members than when this was first brought up.

 

Still, I personally don't believe we need to be creating more specific sections for the off-topic side of our discussion boards, given that they're not the focus of our forum. Having a special prefix button for debate topics inside General Discussion so people can differentiate immediately makes a lot more sense to me, like what Feld0 brought up in that ancient topic.

It makes sense! Plus, this forum is useful pretty good at handling debates and stuff--very rarely will you see a flame war start here. So, I say we give it a try! Sounds like a great idea! I enjoy debating (depending on the topic), so I would know that I'd enjoy this! Good idea, hopefully mods/admin consider it!

Megathreads as a whole aren't really an ideal way to approach something of this sort, I think - you'd have people attempting to carry on a dozen conversations at once, with what I can only imagine to be very poor results.

 

As for the idea of a dedicated debate board... I think we'd need a significantly larger amount of qualifying threads before it'd be worth investing in another sub-board. I think the best course of action for people that aren't interested in such threads is to simply not click on them, to be honest... something that I personally practice quite liberally when it comes to certain key topics.
