it is less professional and not so belieavable if we used our nicknames from the forums, I've never participated in a petition thing before and I'm sort of clueless, I guess as long as we attach a real email address that would make our signature valid.

Make a decision, Hasbro. You either support bronies or you don't. Nitpicking about stuff like this is not going to endear you to a fan base.

Is there a petition somewhere?

There is one being made and another one was made by someone who I don't think has seen this thread yet:

It's not outside of Hasbro's rights to do this, nor would it be outside their rights to allow the game to continue unhindered. Thus I started a petition:

https://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-inc-allow-the-game-fighting-is-magic-to-continue-development-by-mane-6

Do with that what you will.

Thank you for doing that, Kamil.

I'm signing it now.

Well I see kamil already started a petition....

https://www.change.org/petitions/hasbro-inc-allow-the-game-fighting-is-magic-to-continue-development-by-mane-6

Though I must state, within my own thought, this mission statement is truly lacking.  I wish I had written my Manifesto of Infringement sooner than this was posted.  I will sign this in hopes that Hasbro thinks this (Sorry to state it in this negative manner) meager statement is enough to release their vise on the Mane6 and their terms that had been laid out previously.

Someone please get a hold of me if we wish to update our message and I will gladly revamp it with a quality of force and persuasion.  Please, everyone, sign this petition; it isn't our last hope, but it surely is one to be reckoned with!  Go get 'em

~With regards,

Your fellow Brony

Oh god.  I was understanding of them when they started taking down episodes from Youtube because that directly interferes with their ability to sell the show internationally.  But this?

They were so good to us the first couple of years.  They let the whole fandom grow and bloom, and they were the  *model* of how a corporate entity  should interact with the fans of their product.  We repaid them handsomely by buying the products and watching the show.

And *now* they're bringing down the hammer?  What the hell, Hasbro?  And where's it going to stop?  IF they're targetting Fighting is Magic, what about fan animation?  Fan art?  Fan Fiction?

Damn it, Hasbro,  Just months ago you were the anti-Viacom.  Now you're no different.  I am *so* signing that petition.

Thanks for the quote Haven, I had not seen this thread yet.

Indeed, although I did not officially do so on behalf of Mane 6, I saw what had happened and decided to do SOMETHING as best as I can. The link is in the quote, as well as my signature.

In addition to the petition, I am currently writing an email to hasbrobrandpr@hasbro.com, although I don't know if that is actually the correct branch to receive such messages, and will later send a physical letter to

Hasbro, Inc.
1027 Newport Avenue
Pawtucket, RI 02862

I hope that at least one of these three contacts will have some effect if enough people do the same.

I can't find Kamil's post but I want to thank you for the petition that you've setted up:

https://www.change.o...pment-by-mane-6

also, I want to remind everypony about the heat of the moment, I know y'all are very mad at hasbro and whatnot, but please keep your thoughts as proffessional as possible, no bad words, no cuss. Be humble and say why you want this game.

@, don't stop writing that letter, we will find a way to use it somehow. :)

@@Kamil, there you are, thank you very much for what you've done. :) before we let Hasbro know about this, let's see first how far we can get, we need as much signatures as possible.

So...are they now gonna crack down on all of the Grimdark pics out there

And the violent, blood filled fanfics next? Still I do see this as a bad reason to take legal action against the game

Fanart and fanifics are fair use, something like a big game project with a large team behind is quite a bit more of a grey area.

Signed! (My address: 101 Privacy Ave. But I did give them an email.) I hope this project can survive, they've made way too much progress to just give up and quit.

This may be an ominous sign for the future, but the fandom and its work will carry on whether it's thanks to Hasbro or in spite of them. :)

Alrights. Looks like I do not need to make a petiton after all.

I shall sign it, but perhaps we, as the forums could revamp it and throw in our statements to make one huge petition made and signed by a whole community

Edit: Signed.

Bam!

Within like twenty minutes of this thread this petition went from about 12 signatures to a 101. Good work everypony on putting in your share but the more the better, I'm assuming. If it keeps up at this rate then things will be looking good.

I'll put this in my links on whatever forums or places I decide to browse in hopes of getting it more attention.

My email to Hasbro's PR department:

Hello. I'll make this short, as you must get a large amount of emails.

Development
of the 'Fighting is Magic' fan project must be allowed to continue. I
realize the developers should have obtained a license sooner, but this
is a two-year labor of love that deserves a much better fate than
running headlong into a trademark law. There is no shortage of creative
minds in Hasbro's company ranks, and they had to start somewhere too.

The
way we see it, Hasbro either respects and appreciates bronies or they
don't. Giving this nonprofit endeavor your blessing (as you have others)
is a way to show that you do. The current stance on this isn't doing
your PR any favors among our large, vocal and influential community.
Many responses are already underway as well as a petition.

Please, try to help the decision-makers understand our side of this.

Signed,
A brony

This is sad to read about, and I'll sign the petition, but I don't think it will do any good. Those online ones are not known for doing much if not started by some real organization like Credo and such.

If we want to make our voices really heard we need to make a big statement, not just a bunch of people digitally signing something online. Do like the fans of the TV show Jericho did when it was canceled, send something physical that ties into the subject matter (Jericho). I think I'll be sending in a real letter, written with a calligraphy pen, rolled up and sealed with a red ribbon, in a cardboard shipping tube. Who's with me?!

I have the leaked version and play it often, just got done actually before hopping on here to see this, and was really looking forward to the full version. This is a step too far and shows the direction Hasbro appears to be heading, no longer caring about the true fans that have made this generation bring the MLP franchise back from death. The Derpy issue is one thing since they did have people fighting against her continued appearance as she was portrayed, but this is of their own doing since I highly doubt anyone that knew about the game petitioned Hasbro to get rid of it.

Here is a quick Manifesto-esque document that I have composed (and which is unfinished).  I need your help to arrange more points, especially towards the legal matter at hand.

Concerning Copyright

In the situation of the
copyright infringement that has been recently upheld by Hasbro
against the Mane6 Development Team, our thoughts are as follows in
the following statements. The word, without a doubt, quickly reached
the fans and has been responded to with negative affects.

Before the reader of this
document puts this down, may they keep in mind the fan's views at
hand. Bronies, in general, are endearing to Habro and their creation
without a doubt. And understand that copyright is a serious matter
from a legal standpoint. But removing a game that has been in
development under Hasbro's knowledge is not understandable by fans or
a general viewpoint.

It is to the best of any
single fan's knowledge that Mane6 is using your product in an
original manner as such that will not have you lose your rights to
the product you supply. The only thing that the stated concern may
bring about is a branch that is not affiliated by Hasbro. A group of
such stature is not taking away anything such as audience or income
from the parent company, nor are they straying views of Hasbro away
from its original intent. This brings the point to the right to fair
use.

It is stated within chapter 1 section
107 of Title 17 in the United States Code that the right to fair use
is an exception. In brief, the use for criticism, comment, news
reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research
are not an infringement towards the copyright in question.

Be it
as it may that it could easily be seen as a potential challenger, the
group itself is of no such intent. Being it that it is a nonprofit
project, it in no way goes against the right to fair use stated
previously. The developers of the game had stated they with to make
this project for fun and have arranged a team to test how they might
go about this. And arranging a group and taking on a challenge might
seem to come across research, which in no way infringes the copyright
at hand.

TL;DR: No getting out of this, you have to read my points

I didn't know about this, and I am not really surprised at all...   This wouldn't be the first time a company did something like this.  I signed the petition as it seemed to be a cool game.

@, I agree, the petition on this website was a nice touch but I feel like it's not enough.

if you say that a hand written letter would be more "complete". What ideas can you bring in to make it work and also make all of us part of it.

What if we were to add to Rainbow's Manefesto and write it out then send it by mail? It looks good as it is IMO. Would you think that would do the job?

Guys, one of my Facebook brony friends made a good point, if the team hasn't gotten a response from Hasbro yet, isn't there chance this could be a really skilled trolling attack, like that time with Youtube? I would think Hasbro would be biting at the bit to save face if they really did it.

It's just a theory though.

@, this is definitelly a read filled with legal situations I can't deny, however this letter can't have the feeling like we are accusing them of something, I am a little filled with ideas in my head right now and can't think straigh. But what the letter missed is HOW important this game was for the fandom. It wasn't just a game, it was one of the hundread and hundread of reasons why we are so creative.

I would like to hear more feedback about the letter though.

Here is my "full" version...

And arranging a group and taking on a challenge might

seem to come across research, which in no way infringes the copyright

at hand.

Keeping the previously

stated points in mind; sections 106 through 122 of chapter one of

stated title are all kept in mind. These however truly only require

Hasbro's approval of such acts to be allowed by the violator at hand.

Swiftly deciding such

actions on Hasbro's part will bring out a negative turn from the fans

of Hasbro, and will resort to them losing more money than naught.

For it is quite clear that the main consumer is the easily

recognizable “Brony Fan-base”. And with the infringement being

viewed as a potential harm towards the income and property rights of

Hasbro, the result was for Mane6 to be shut down. This however will

show more harm than the former. A large portion of followers will be

easily swayed and will in turn, leave said fan-base. Thus, a greater

revenue loss than the tolerance of a side group forming a game

to support the parent company.

It is with great respect,

but great disapproval we present this manifesto to display the

thoughts of a recognizable group. With that being said, these

statements are expected to be taken seriously. All fans alike wish

to see this community thrive whether it be through Hasbro, or

original developers itself. That should be taken into account in

hopes that Hasbro wishes to supply the fans with affection and keep

not only the fans but themselves going.

With regards,

The fans

I currently plan on sending a letter to the address I posted earlier containing my personal appeal (likely similar to the email I just sent to their PR department), and now will probably also contain a copy of this manifesto. I linked the petition in that email to show the fan response as best as online petitions can.

If you do include a copy of the, please do a read through to check for convention, syntax, and grammatical failures of all sorts XD I'm sure there are bound to be errors in there somewhere.

Could you possibly do a read through ?
