Is Equestria Daily the flesh and blood of the brony fandom?

Regarding the news of how Fighting is Magic was recently taken off the air, I couldn't help but envision a scenario where EqD was to be terminated not unlike the same way the video game would be halted.

EqD's without a doubt the number one source for fan-related pony content you can find throughout the internet, its influence clearly tugging at the hearts of bronies around the world. So judging by all the success it's gotten, it's now "big reliable" and a lot of bronies are dependent on it to continue their fanhood. It might be akin to a superstar wide receiver getting hurt and the team suffers along with it because he was so critical to their success - likewise, if it were to be taken off, would everything start to dwindle considerably?

I dont really like Equestria Daily. I have gone there on occasion but I find the site far too confusing. But maybe thats just me... Of course, yes It is apparently very popular amongst the Brony community.

I am deathly tired of all the drama, topics and general talk about copyright scares just because Hasbro killed off a singular titan of a project. Why can't everyone go back to freaking out about Alicorn Twilght?

No. Website traffic can prove to be fickle. Eventually, another site would become the mainstream news source if EQD somehow died off. The fandom wouldn't dwindle. Our network speed, per say of locating brony content and news may become a bit slower in the meantime while another site raises to take its' place, but it would be more hearsay drama than it would be an actual threat to the fandom.

After all, the fandom birthed EQD's popularity, not vice-versa. We're fully capable of producing another 'top site'.

Equestria Daily is not the life and blood of the fandom. I don't visit it and have been there only a couple times. If your're dependent on it to keep your fandomness, then Celestia help you. It's the friendship amungst us all that is the life blood of the fandom.

My reasoning was that EqD became the most influential brony site on the net, so how hard would it be to get it back/emulate it if it ever did come to that.

And for the record, this isn't a copyright scare so much as it is just blasting something big off the internet for life.

If there's a need, it would happen. Without EQD filling that place, a site would rise to the same level, eventually. Not sure how long it would take, but it'd happen eventually, for sure.

Still in the same realm of 'Oh noes Hasbro is gonna remove all our stuff' mindset :3

I actually have thought of this, and while Equestria Daily does annoy me in some ways it does serve a vital purpose for the fandom and it would not be easily replaced. I think that the fandom would definitely continue on, but for a time it would be much less unified until we found another site or several in tandem that could fulfill its role (not that we're terribly unified now ;) ). But even if EQD were to go down I think we would recover. Same thing as when my church burned down last year. Was it very inconvenient for everyone for months? Absolutely. But now we're doing better than ever, mainly because we are committed, much like most bronies are.

So ultimately, I think we'd be fine. Still not something I want to see happen though.

Meh. EQD is well known and all, but it isn't the biggest thing ever. Some bronies don't even know about it.

I must thank Seth for beginning a Trixie army though.

I actually don't visit Equestria Daily that much. I doubt that, since it's a website, Hasbro'll care all that much. There are plenty of other places on the Internet where Bronies can get the news that Equestria Daily offers.

I can say that I've never once been on that site. So if it was terminated, I'd be happy actually because first off, people would stop complaining when their stuff didn't get featured and second, anyone who'd stop being a brony just because 1 site is taken down is hardly a brony at all.

Why can't everyone go back to freaking out about Alicorn Twilght?

I personally hardly ever go on Equestria Daily honestly. I spend to much time here anyways :P. But honestly even if it was shut down some other site would take its job over. It wouldn't spell destruction for the fandom, Especially for people who don't really visit it in the first place anyways.

Same for me, actually. I rarely visit. It's a nice way to get info, but it's not the only way. Nothing much would happen, really, in my opinion.

Actually, I've found that their fan fiction section is VERY, VERY biased.

They often turn down damn good stories just because it was written in a unique way.

For instance, the story "Mare-Do-Well: Regeneration" by Mark Garg von Herb is my absloute favorite fan fiction in the fandom right now (yes I did read Past Sins and it was quite good, if a little padded out. But I have NO interest in reading Fallout: Equestria or Background Pony. They're just too depressing)

Anyways, back to the topic.

As I was saying, MDW: Regeneration got rejected because it was written in, and you're not going to believe it, THIRD PERSON, PRESENT TENSE.

Like this:

"She reaches for the cup and takes a drink".

That's it. That was their first complaint.

If I want info on Brony topics, I go take a quick look, see if theirs any major news and then go back to FIMFiction, where I can read a ton of awesome fan fiction.

So I think that if (god forbid) they got taken away, the fandom would probably have a few weeks worth of freaking out and then snap right back to normal.

I'll admit I go on EQD daily but it's more to check out the art work and hear the music because I find it quicker and easier. If it were taken off (unlikely) then as has been said another would soon take its place. Also I'm pretty sure Hasbro are well aware of its presence and support it, especially since it basically acts as a advert for them.

Also why would they take it down? From what I understand they aren't infringing on copyright etc and technically they only point you to sites that have the content rather than contain it themselves.

@Everyone here

Would it not be better to not have to worry about anything we fans have made being taken away in the first place or seen as illegal? Or copyright owners worrying so much about what their fans do or having the risk of their ownership being taken away as such? Or possibly both working together to help both the product and the fandom grow?

Thats my goal with my mission. I dont want to just sit around and complain day in day out and feel heartbroken when something inheritly innocent gets crushed. I would rather fight to make a change now.
