Phobias?

I wouldn't count it as a phobia, but i'm seriously "scared" of injuring my wrist. I've almost passed out from just having a little wound on my wrist. I really can't press something, like my thumb for an example, against my wrist hard either. This is really weird :S

I'm scared-ish of blood (especially if it's on my wrist...). I feel dizzy when I see wounds in movies. Blood tests makes me light headed.

I'm frightened by the though of someone or something being behind me, so I don't like standing in the middle of a room. I'm also afraid of the dark. I sometimes run when I have to go somewhere alone in the dark. I'm fine with having the lights out when i go to sleep. Unless it's completely dark. That scares me A LOT. I get scared by sleeping without a quilt. Seriously, I can't sleep without one...

I have claustrophobia. It's not like I commit suicide or anything but i really dislike small spaces. Just the though of crawling through a narrow space makes me scared :/ I would scream until I passed out from hyperventilating if I were to be locked into a closet. Yeah, this is probably what scares me the most

I dislike every bug there is, but crane flies... wow. The freak the shit out of me! I can barely be in the same room as a crane fly (especially if I don't know where it is)

Edit: Another thing is that I sometimes feel like people are reading my mind. I KNOW they don't, but it still feels like it :/

Edit 2: I'm also afraid of falling

Edit 3: And I kind of panic when i'm exposed to a very high sound for an extended amount of time

Edit 4: I SOMETIMES avoid mirrors because I fear that I will see someone standing behind me

Lilapsophobia, fear of tornadoes and hurricanes. In my case, though, it only applies to tornadoes (hurricanes aren't exactly common where I live). Bad enough that my heart'll actually start pushing on my sternum, making my pulse clearly visible in my chest. I've actually traced back why it exists, and I can definitively say I blame it on a combo of The Wizard of Oz and Courage the Cowardly Dog (which, in retrospect, was full of nightmare fuel). However, in tracing it back, I also discovered the actual cause: I tend to get attached to things, and from an early age I associated tornadoes with complete destruction. They became a scapegoat of my fear of losing everything I hold dear, the true phobia.

But still, whenever the sirens go off, you can bet I've had everything I own in a basement for the past few hours.blink.png

Indeed.

Fear of heights, and... S..s..spiders...

Those eight legged little monsters... Some kill, some poison... *hides in a blanket* I have Arachnophobia, I can't look at one without checking on it after ten seconds, or yelling and jumping back...

...hold me... :(

I'm afraid of spiders; I just can't stand those things, if I see a spider somewhere, I just stand still and look at it.

I also have a slight case of nyctophobia (fear of the dark), but nothing too serious.

Ah, yes...phobias...Great, aren't they? Here's a list of mine:

Arachnophobia

I think one of my number one phobias is my fear of arachnids. My phobia is most likely genetic (my mother is even more phobic of spiders than I am.) Of course, I seem to be phoebic of not only spiders, but other arachnids...namely ticks. I frequently worry that a spider in my house is a brown recluse, although it's so rare in Chicago and suburbs of Chicago...more rare than you would probably expect. Every time I see a tick, or get a tick on me (ticks love me for whatever reason), I panic and all I can think of is "Disgusting creature is attached to me and is probably carrying Lyme disease!" When it comes to spiders that are obviously not brown recluse, I'm still quite afraid and extremely disgusted by them. I don't know if it's the legs, or the webs, or my fear that somehow I will walk into a web, and hundreds of spiders will start falling all over my head, crawling on me, and biting me.

Of course, my fear that spiders will attack me in groups is highly unlikely. Spiders are generally solitary animals, although they will occasionally share the same web, or create webs side-by-side. If you think about it, we might as well be spiders, as we are absolutely using the same web! *Clears throat* A little slap-happy humor there...

To continue, brown recluse aren't as common in northern Illinois. They are supposedly quite rare here, and apparently they are more shy (hence the word "recluse"), and less likely to bite than most people think. Of course, it's not something any of us should seek out! In terms of ticks, though exceedingly disgusting, most of the time, they do not carry Lyme disease, though obviously it's probably wise to seek out a doctor if certain symptoms are noticed soon after, such as the "bulls eye" mark where the bite was.

Emetophobia

Emetophobia is a fear of vomit or vomiting. This one is a tad ironic, considering that I have possibly the most sensitive stomach and gag reflex of anyone I know. In fact, I'm usually the one who throws up at the drop of a hat, and no one else. If someone were to vomit around me, I become extremely shakey and nervous, and feel a little sick, even if they don't throw up. Though there have been times that I've been able to tolerate, even help a person who wasn't feeling well, but most of the time, if someone feels like they will throw up, I will run right out of the room.

There have been very few studies concerning this, but some studies supposedly cite that emetophobia can be due to a traumatic vomit experience in childhood or early teens, or fear of "germs". However, surprisingly, I have no fear of getting sick (with most illnesses, that is), usually. In fact, when Swine Flu, H1N1, or whatever you deem it, went around and people were panicking, I was making jokes about it. I even bought a pig plush and a medical mask, and put them together as a sort of silly (and possibly obnoxious) sort of parody of the paranoid fuss. I went to a convention that I attend every November that year, and stood by an "Avoid H1N1" sign, oinking the plush at people walking by. Needless to say, most were terrified, or at very least, not amused. (That was also the convention that led to me coming down with what we furries call "con crud", and being sick with the nastiest cold so long I had to go on antibiotics...Karma? tongue.png ) Eh...Rambling aside..I think it strange that so little research has been conducted regarding emetophobia, since so many people seem to have it...on some level at least. Of course, considering that in the past (and even sometimes now) vomiting could spread some pretty nasty infections, perhaps whether or not we are consciously a germophobe, we may still fear vomit for that very reason. Fear of vomit could very well be quite ingrained in the general population.

Dipsophobia

I am extremely uncomfortable around drunk people to the point that I often feel the need to completely remove myself from the situation. It doesn't matter if they are not harming me. In my mind I am completely terrified. I can't stand the lack of judgement involved when someone is drunk (or high) and I begin to panic. A small part of my fear of drunks may actually tie into my fear of vomiting. Drunks, if they are drunk enough, or drink the "cheap stuff", may very well throw up at some point later.

Although most drunks are probably harmless...most drunks...

Acrophobia

Acrophobia, or fear of heights is another fear I have. When looking down from a tall building, or bridge, or anything of the like, I'm always terrified that I will somehow trip and fall, or I will drop a prized posession of mine, which will in turn be lost forever...

Sadly, to me at least, fear of heights does make a lot of sense, and I have yet to come up with any logical way to work through it. tongue.png

Spheksophobia (Apiphobia) - I don't like Bees, but i don't run from them. However, I hate Wasps. I got stung by one when i was 8 or 9 and had been through a hell of pain afterwards. Nowadays, whenever i see a Wasp nearing, i am instantly leaving the area.

Cardiophobia - I am also afraid of falling victim to a cardiovascular (Heart) disease. I've once had some kind of chest pain throughout days and sometimes it felt like i was going to have a heart attack, but a checkup at the doctor revealed it was my sternum pressing on the heart. A little extensive upper body training eventually cured it. But still, this experienced has left an Impression on me.

I'm afraid of the dark and of spiders. But only the pitch black or really big spiders! I'm perfectly fine with tiny spiders, most of the time!

Yes, I am a little afraid of the dark too...

In terms of spiders, I actually dislike the brown ones. Black spiders don't bother me nearly as much!

I think, the only kinds of Spiders i dislike are the really dangerous ones; like black widows, sydney funned web spiders or brown recluse.

A normal Taratula or other harmless spiders however don't bug me (no pun intended) at all.

Interesting!

I'm not nearly as bothered by tarantulas, myself. In fact, I find them fascinating! I used to have a pet tarantula.

I am scared of Wasps/Bees/Hornets.Generally any bug with the dreaded yellow(gold) on black stripes colour scheme.*Shudders* Just the sound can make me run a mile. They all want to kill me.

I'm also scared of storage facilities. The kinds that are quite boxed in(like at stores such as Ikea)where you pick things out on huge shelves and people need ladders and forklifts to get them to you..Just the thought of the boxes being heavy and high up falling on me..*Shudders again*

The thought of a storage facility having a wasp nest ontop a high ledge that could fall on me and cover me in them.

Ah.I need a sit down.

I don't think I really have any bona fide phobias. I've got a fear of arachnids (particularly spiders and scorpions), but I wouldn't call it proper 'arachnophobia' as I wouldn't run screaming I saw one...I'd most definitely kill it, though.

Not fond of bees or any other flying insect with a stinger, either. But I know that as long as I'm not dumb enough to take a swipe at one, I won't get stung. Which is good, because I'm not entirely sure whether or not I've inherited my mom's deadly bee sting allergy...and I don't ever want to find out. blink.png

The only fear I have that I would describe as remotely irrational is my fear of the ocean. I've never really had a problem with swimming in lakes or anything like that, but the thought of being swept out to sea terrifies me for some reason. Strangely, I wouldn't have much of a problem sailing the ocean on a boat, but the thought of actually swimming in the ocean gives me chills.

I used to be really scared of butterflies for some reason (the monarch butterfly in particular). I found them creepy looking I guess. I got over my phobia as I got older, but I don't know exactly how. It seems that one day I randomly found them not scary.

Spiders, they scare the bejaysus outta me Xo

Fun fact: I find spiders to be supremely interesting and cool creatures, and often read up about them and watch documentaries...but if I see one in person that's bigger than a small 1 cent coin, I freak out, get a ridiculous adrenaline rush, and shake for about an hour after the spider has been "dealt" with.

I'm also not a big fan of heights, craneflies and mosquitoes.

I actually have a huge fear of insects. I used to be so terrified of spiders as a kid that I would scream when I saw one. I still am scared of them and I have to use either a shoe or a huge piece of paper just to get rid of any one of them that got in to the house. Now I am terrified of centipedes. During the summer time when I saw a couple of centipedes in the basement I was just too scared to move that I had to tell my mom to handle them.

I have a HUGE fear of spiders (Which is ironic, considering my favorite super hero is Spider-Man.), a fear of clowns, a fear of heights, and a fear of, don't laugh, swag and Yolo.

Ooooooh! a thread on phobias!

Well lets see here...

Up until I was 9 (or 10 - it was so long ago, I can't rightly remember), I was terrified of spiders, especially the common ones (such as Huntsman - although for some reason I was really scared of Daddy Long Legs), but then I flew down to Sydney from Singapore (where I was living at the time) for my 9th (or 10th) birthday and spent it with my grandparents, my mama and papa (my mum's parents) took me to the Sydney Reptile park, and my papa wanted to go through the spider exhibit, I reluctantly went through it with him, but after seeing the spiders behind glass and learning more about them, I eased up and am not so terrified of spiders (except for ones that are deadly of-course)

Well, maybe I should start with things that I'm not afraid of.

Sunflowers. I'm not sure why they creep you guys out so much, but I love 'em!

Heights. Once again, awesome! :3 I always feel so alive while looking over an edge.

Germs. Don't give a crap about germs.

Snakes. There's really nothing to fear about them.

Eels. Delicious. ^-^

Roller coasters. I was afraid of them a long time ago, but once I actually rode one with my dad, I realized that they were soooo fun!

Horror movies. I found The Grudge funny. xD

Dogs. I want one.

Now for some things that I am afraid of.

Rejection. Hate it. One of the main reasons why I don't have a boyfriend.

Bugs. They scare the living shit out of me.

Patterns involving many, tiny little objects arranged close together. I have no idea why, but ever since I was a kid, it always sent shivers up my spine.

Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Who isn't afraid of foot-in-mouth?

Clowns. Scare me so F'ING much.

Cancer. I don't eeeevvveeerrr want to get it. Ever.

Well, yeah. That's it. :3
