What this guy said.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one in that situation. Means a lot to me that I'm not alone.

And I know this isn't really a joking matter, but you gave me an opportunity it'd be a sin not to take: img-1369156-1-Confound_these_ponies.png

Sorry, perfect opportunity. Don't take offense, just trying to lighten the mood. img-1369156-2-smile.png

Ultimately, the point I would make is this.  If you are going to lose your trust in anyone, it should be Hasbro and not the writers, since it was Hasbro that gave the order to do this.

I'm fully aware it was Hasbro's decision. But, one cannot lose trust in what they never trusted to begin with. I've never liked that Hasbro's in charge. They reek of money and greed. I've never placed any trust nor faith nor any good thing, really, in them. I knew they'd eventually screw up, so I wasn't really surprised. I expected a letdown eventually, so it wasn't too much of a shock when it happened. The shock was in what the letdown itself was.

The writers, who I'd never had reason to distrust, I felt gave a somewhat lackluster performance in MMC. As I said, the only things I had after it were impossible questions. I had no real answers to go off of. To me, that's a sign of weakness in writing, something I'd never noticed them do before.  Don't get me wrong, putting biases aside, I DID like MMC, but it just left me wondering far too much. I realize they wanted a cliffhanger, but there should be a logical limit to how much is unanswered. Again, I found their performance lacking, which when combined with the fact that I'd never noticed such a thing before, and the subject matter they performed poorly on (which will end up being game-changing in the long run), I'm logically less than pleased. Again, in my eyes, they done goofed. They need to prove to me that it's not a goof, or else it'll just keep festering as a blemish on how I perceive their ability.

Although, if they pull this off, I'm seriously tempted to buy 'em a bunch of pizzas and write a handwritten letter of apology for doubting them. img-1369156-3-smile.png

It sounds like your chief complaint about the way it ended is that it left more questions than answers.  But the thing is, that's the whole point of a cliffhanger.  Shows have cliffhangers like this all the time (though in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't really call this a cliffhanger). They're supposed to leave you with questions. It's how they get people to come back and watch the show next season.  And I hate to say it, but based on the fact that you're going to tune in next season to see how it plays out, it seems like it's working.

That wasn't a cliff hanger that was a cliff hurler, that entire episode was like a bad acid trip it made no fragging sense and the whole ending felt more like a series finale than a legitimate cliffhanger. Yes cliffhangers are supposed to leave us in suspense but they are supposed to leave us in suspense because we are excited about what will happen next not wonder just what in the hell Hasbro was thinking, what in the hell this was in the first place and gnashing our teeth hoping to almighty God that Twilight dosen't get Mary Sued into oblivion. A good cliff hanger answers enough questions for the episode to actually make sense yet still leave us wanting more, and MMC failed in that regard for myself and many others miserably.

Honestly,i disagree, but i see where youcoming from.I mean,it sure was a huge surprise Twi grew wings and became a Princess.I was totally shocked by this, and in the beginning i began to be a little like you,not very happy with her transformation. But,after watching the episode coutless times,i grew less worried she would change and still be the same old twilight. At least im hoping she will...img-387689-1-5e7kmu.png

It's just because you aren't used to Twilight like that.

But isn't this hate thing going to far? Why is everyone taking this too seriously?

Everypony needs to remember this show is a cartoon kids show. Some people are ruining the fun. This isn't real life- so relax.

Again, MMC had nothing to do with this decision.  Hasbro wanted this done in one episode.  Therefore, the writers had no choice, but to do it.  That's the way the industry works.  They're under contract by Hasbro, which means Hasbro gets the final say in what happens.  If they want something to happen, the writers either do it, or Hasbro finds someone who will.

Second, this was a cliffhanger ending.  Sure it wasn't the best cliffhanger ending, but it was a cliffhanger of sorts.  It accomplished exactly what cliffhanger endings are designed to do.  It's got us all talking about what happened and what might happen in Season 4.  Cliffhanger endings don't always need to answer alot of questions.  Reference Xenosaga.

Yes Hasbro crammed it down the writers throats, that is so obvious it dosen't even need to be said I am not denying that one bit. But while cliffhangers do not need to answer that many questions they still need to answer enough to at least not feel like something a bunch of teens came up with it in a dark basement while taking turns huffing a bag of paint thinner. Seriously one minute everyone's cutie marks are switched insert a billion songs and practically no dialogue later and its all hail princess Twilight.

I think you're jumping to conclusions.

Personally I support the decision to change Twilight into an Alicorn. As much as a lot of you will try and deny this, the whole alicorn thing has been pretty much hinted at throughout the entire series. I respect that the writers are taking a giant leap forward, and they are not afraid to take risks. Twilight being Celestia's student is fine and all, but it will eventually get dull and repetitive if things never moved forward. It's an essential part of character development; If nothing ever changes, then the character won't be able to adapt and grow.

This is something I like to call 'The Ash Ketchum Theory'. As many of you who have grown up with Pokemon probably know, the main character is a ten year old boy called Ash Ketchum. His goal is to eventually catch all of the pokemon, defeat the elite four and become Pokemon league champion. A reasonable goal for a protagonist right?

Well here's where it starts to go wrong. In the first season of Pokemon, Ash battles in the Pokemon league, and despite all of his efforts he still loses. This works to the advantage of the story in the first season, it shows that sometimes your best still isn't good enough, and you have to keep working hard to improve.

Now, we're 11 seasons and 15 movies into the series, and barely anything has changed. Ash still isn't anywhere close to catching all of the pokemon and still has never won a Pokemon league, and you know why? Because it's too much of a risk to let the protagonist reach his goal. When the main goal is reached, the writers have to think up something else for the protagonist to chase, and this might turn some viewers away. It is far safer to just repeat the same story over and over again.

It would have been extremely easy, especially being a kids show, for MLP just to keep Twilight a student forever. I am glad that the writers grew some balls and took a chance, and who knows; this could lead to so much.

You are all judging this way too early. Most of you who hate the idea of the Twilicorn seem to just be afraid of change, even when it could possibly benefit the series in the long run.

So give her a chance for Christ sake. Wait until season 4 gets underway before you make such rash judgements. She is still the same Twilight Sparkle we've all grown to love, she's just moving forward as a character.

I was expecting this thread to show me why Twilicorn was so hated in a very objective way and I ended up being disappointed.

I could not find a reason why Twilight Sparkle as a princess is not good, other than applying a HUGE (wings) change (that still we haven't seen in action yet) to a character that we all know about.

You said that you lost a "connection" with her. We only got to see her as an alicorn for at least 5 minutes of the MMC episode, and even still I felt like she was the same Twilight Sparkle that we all know. "Is there a book about being a princess that I should read?" that line is SO Twilight Sparkle and even with the wings and the slightly elongated torso, she is the same Twilight.

Now you mention, why the change? why? sadly... most of the reasons is money, Hasbro only wants to merchandise their products and they need an incentive to sell better the new Princess Twilight Sparkle, but is change always bad? no, is not, and I feel like the writers nailed it cuz Princess Celestia was hinting since episode 1 that Twilight was closer to be "ready"...

I think there is not a single soul that hated the moment when Goku got transformed into super saiyan for the very first time in Dragon Ball Z, then, I say, why hate this? can you be so selfish and uptight that you won't tolerate this character to experience growth and continuity, do you want Twilight to be stuck in the same loop over and over again, her personality will always be the same.

And as you said it, about your depression, I MUST agree, it was rather pathetic on your part to get depressed over this, I can understand the special bonds that we have with our favorites ponies, but this was just too much, especially because Twilicorn hasn't been explored or exploited at all. I repeat she only had wings for 5 minutes.

You just jumped into conlusions too fast.

What can I say I don't agree with any single thing you said, in fact it's unrelated and blaming her because you got depressed on your own, it's just ....hmmm...I have no words, this would be better for a blog entry because I feel like the there's no need to discuss much things about Twilicorn over here

Generally when you know the topic you're making exists elsewhere, you should find that topic and craft your posts to work as replies, instead of re-creating the wheel as it were, by making a new topic discussing the same general thing :) I've merged your topic, 'My Thoughts on Twilicorn' with the pinned thread, 'Do You Support Twilicorn?', as they both cover ones' support or lack of support for Twilicorn, and ask others to give their own thoughts as well.

@@~Lawful Jordo~,@, @@Fluttershy_babe,

I'll just reply to these en masse.

Do I oppose story progression? No, I simply oppose this story progression. Something like this event has been hinted at since the start, that cannot be denied. However, I figured she'd become some type of adviser in Celestia's court, some type of magic researcher, or something that actually fits who she is. Honestly, I don't see how Twi being a princess coincides with her personality very well, aside from leadership and helping others. They could've made her something else that fits more than two or three of her myriad of personality traits. I'd have been all for some type of appointment by Celestia to a high position that fits who she is. But I just don't see why making her a princess is superior to all other options. In fact, it's about the lowest thing I had on my list.

Have I jumped to conclusions? Yes, I'll admit, I have. However, similarly to how I tried to react rationally to this and found myself incapable of doing so, I find myself incapable of seeing how this will do any more good than keeping her the same Twi we had before. As of right now, I'm seeing much more potential to mess this up. I'll admit I'll probably end up being wrong. But in the here and now, there ain't much I can do to change my mind.

Did I react irrationally? Yes, I did. I noted that several times in my post. However, as I have ALSO stated multiple times now, I couldn't help it. I tried nearly everything I could to help the situation, but I was incapable of doing so. I knew I wasn't reacting like I should have, but I couldn't stop this conspiracy theorist I call a brain from assuming the worst and hot-gluing it to my mind.

Why did I react the way I did? I have no idea. I know and respect that it wasn't the way I should have. But, this just flipped the wrong switch in my head. If I knew definitively why, I'd tell you. But the fact of the matter is, I don't.

What don't I like about AliTwi? I see endless potential to inadvertently wreck her character. I know they said they'll keep her the same, and what we've seen is similar to who she is, but let's be honest here. If you suddenly became President, Prime Minister, etc., would you still be the same? No, you wouldn't. Change comes with the job. And as much as they say things won't, there's going to have to be some type of change, or else this whole thing would've been pointless.

Is 5 minutes enough to make a judgement? No, but it's all I have to go on. My nature is to draw conclusions based upon what I know and can logically assume. I can logically assume a major game-change, which has a high likelihood of bringing about undesirable consequences. And I know next to nothing. Do the math, and despite not having much room to judge, I can't really help but judge against this.

Will I give AliTwi a chance? Of course. I'm going to see what they do, to definitively prove me right or wrong. If I like it, which will most likely end up being the case, then woohoo. If I don't, so be it. But I'll fully and willingly give it the chance to wow me.

Am I pathetic? Yes, now can we please move on?

Basically, moral of the story, I've been trying my hardest to see the benefits this could have, and I've thought about and considered them. But, I can't respect them because I saw the detriments first. I'll admit, this could have good things written all over it. But, they're written in infrared ink, and I've not yet gotten my night-vision goggles. I know a lot of you are gung-ho about this, but there is as much room to go wrong as there is to go right. Thus is the nature of such a change.

I respect that you guys are in favor of this. In return, I ask that everyone respect the fact that I am not.

do you forget that Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Twilight are the bearers of the elements of harmony? they had saved Ponyville and Canterlot in multiple times with big ceremonies and condecoration events, obviously these 6 ponies are meant to be HUGE.

What's wrong with being a princess? it's Twilight's destiny, and I'm pretty sure that season 4 will focus on that side of her, how she will struggle and cope with the fact that she has now a big responsability between her hooves. She has worked very hard, and she was special since she was a little filly (by the unknown magical outburst that she had when she was trying to apply in Celestia's School), they were hinting that she was meant to be something big but we didn't knew what it was.

Do you need certain personality to be able to be a princess? no, if a very introverted kid is born in a royal family, it is OK to revocate his title just because he lacks the skills. No, you just have to teach him some ways, and that's exactly what Twilight has to learn about being a Princess.

I have said it before, and i'll say it again:

I'm in it for the ride, and thus far, the makers of FiM has provided a really good ride, indeed.

I do want to point out the difference between "good rush" and "bad rush".

Both "Flutter on" and the Finale was rushed but while "Flutter on" was rushed in the way that things felt left out, i didn ot feel like that with the Finale.

To me, the Finale was a "good rush", as in nothing was left out, it was just described as it progressed.

I'm practically indifferent to the Alicorn thing, the point is wether it was explained well enough or not, and i would say:

Yes, it was explained well enough, especially for the original target demographic.

Oh, and i liked the songs and that it essentially was a musical.

Everypony, If Twilight didn't turn into a Alicorn, the show will start to get boring without any twists. They will run out of episode ideas.

Not true, there were several other directions they could have gone with Twilight's character that still would have had plenty of twists. I could easily have easily have seen her becoming a teacher perhaps a magic teacher or researcher or maybe even the next Starswirl the Bearded. While those aren't necessarily as drastic they can still if written the right way provide plenty of twists to keep the show from getting stale.

Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to Twilight becoming an alicorn eventually, eventually being the key word here and think the idea has a lot of potential why I am opposed to it is because it is way too soon in the story to justify it and it so far has been handled poorly with a rushed season finale that made no sense. But I have also acknowledged many times that it can still work despite its botched introduction.

Of course I understand some ponies will miss the old twilight, but its a show. In shows, things change.

There are people that get a bit paranoid with change I will admit that and change is a good thing but only if it is handled correctly.

People who disagree with me, can you actually think of a reason why princess twilight has such a bad impact on you?

While I am not going to give you some sob story about how it ruined my life or anything that drastic I have seen many great shows go downhill due to the short sightedness, greed and stupidity of companies making writers shoe horn things into shows thinking it will make them some quick cash. Hasbro has clearly fallen into this by making the writers cram this in at the last minute, I just hope all the controversy has taught them a lesson that they should let the writers write the show. So long as they have learned this lesson I have full faith that twilicorn though it is still way too soon and the introduction was seriously flawed can still actually work.

Ummm... yes. Alicorn Twilight is a bad thing. Why should you be convinced? Here's why: We want to see an exciting show about friendship struggles, not some boring, uneventful, cliché sellout starring some princess attending banquets and making decrees. That's completely missing the point of the show because it draws attention away from Twilight's friends. They deserve it more than she does. Without them, she was [and would still be] stubborn, unfriendly, clueless, and weak while the world burns down around her. Edited by Dolphanatic

Same thing happened to me when this was announced. The reasons why I was mad are similar to the OP's, but I was more mad at how she was being portrayed as superior to the rest of the Mane 6. Plus, I dislike change :P
I was angry at the change, and it would just get me down, and whenever I talked to people about it, they basically said it was stupid that I was so upset by a show.

But now, I'm sort of cool with it. I still don't like it, but I've accepted it really.

I didn't like the idea one bit when it was brought up. I still like unicorn Twilight much better. I will miss all those little friendship lessons from season 1, even if those letters are likely to return, I still feel they wouldn't be the same.

With it all being said, long live Queen Twilight Sparkle.

(Yeah, yeah. I know she's a Princess but Queen sounds so much cooler.)

I'm not gonna lie, this is one of the things that made me want to come back on the forums, I was really excited, but like a lot of other, wondering what happens next.

But I support it. She still got her good looks.

~I love the way Storm Spark makes love to me! No one is as manly as he is~

Hello. Your topic seemed to be giving an opinion on Alicorn Twilight and asking for the opinion of others. We happened to have a pinned thread for that purpose, so i have merged your topic with it.

As for your question, you're not the only one. In fact, you seem to be in the vast majority.
