What video-gamestyle would MLP follow?

As a long-time Sonic the Hedgehog fan, I know that some of his games follow either an individual-character-storyline (SA1, Sonic 06) or had more of a team-based storyline (SA2, Sonic Heroes). For anypony who is unaware of this, pretty much either each character had a storyline dedicated to themselves with little-to-many interactions with other characters, or there was a team of characters that would interact with other teams.

If Hasbro made a video-game based on MLP:FiM and the developers had to choose between the two styles, which would they choose and why?

EDIT: My initial question is which of these storyline-styles would Hasbro follow, individual-story or team-story, but please continue answering like the first two comments (when I read this).

Between two styles

1) 2D Platformer

The first game I got was Donkey Kong Country. Ever since then I have loved almost any 2D platformer games. It's a game that in todays time we don't see this kind of style anymore. When Rayman was released I bought it an loved it because not only was it fun, but it also reminded me of the platform era.

2) 3D platformer

The second video game consel I owned was a N64. And my most favorite games where titles such as "LoZ Ocarina of Time", "Banjo-Kazooie", "DK 64", "Mario 64", etc. And when I went to my cousins who where playstation fans my favorites where "Spyro" and "Crash Bandicut". The thing all these have in common is that they are 3D platformers. Now as far as I know this genre is almost dead, there are not many titles that have this genre anymore.

A 3D platformer could be perfect for this series because it would allow for free environmental movement. Character selection can be made to give characers different abilites and different styles of play. Plus if you choose your character you can access some areas with some characters and beat certain levels with others. Trust me this would be a perfect genre for a FIM game.

Bonus pick: Kart Racing

Ever since Mario Kart came out others have tried to replicate this style of racing. We had "Diddy Kong Racing", "Crash Bandicut Racing", Recently " Sonic Racing". Anyway a kart racing style could be done with this series. Each character can have a special and depending on the character we will determin the type of kart and racing stats they will posses.

It might take a 3D approach but a 2D approach sounds better for me since the cartoon is 2D it should stay that way. A platformer would of been nice but would have to limit you to play as the ponies without wings. Because how good is a platformer when you can just fly over everything.

I guess it could go by a puzzle RPG format. Where you play minigames instead of fighting battles to win items that you need for your quest.

If Hasbro were to make a MLP video game it would probably be an arcade style game. probably a 3D non-linear game. in short a pretty boring game. When toy companies try to make video games out of their toy lines they are usally pretty boring and pointless. for example the Barbie games.

I would have to say probably a 3D collect-a-thon style platformer. Of course there wouldn't be any enemies, but the idea of having to complete tasks, puzzles or even minigames to obtain objects is a pretty safe idea. Kind of like Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64 without the enemies and more emphesis on puzzles.

... ok, if we're being more realistic, it would probably look like 2D shovelware for the gameboy advance.

i think hasbro should make a mmorpg... good income for hasbro. good society and personalization for the gamers. not to mention im a computer gamer lol and btw 3d would work. the toys are 3d and you can see the ponies at any angle essentialy making equestria as a whole 3d

In all honesty, I could see them doing creating this both ways

The individual character storyline would be great to get the player familiar with the characters, which would be great for their first few video games

The team based style would be great for maybe a third game or so...

Give or take

They would be split into three teams of two in which they would use their skills to help out the other

Isn't it obvious guys?  It would be a social sim game.  Maybe with some RPG elements thrown in due to the fantasy world and occasional fighting.  It could be a bit like an E rated Persona 4.

4-Player Co-op Puzzle/Platformer/RPG Game

I can also imagine a 4-player co-op style puzzle game with some emphasis on fighting enemies every now (violence limited to hopping on enemy heads or bucking them mario style) and then with split screen action. You would have to work together to solve a dungeon puzzle or something. If you're playing single player mode you just switch between the six mane. The co-op mode would teach more about working as a team for young players. Each of the six mane would have their own set of special skills that are needed for certain situations. There could also be cutscenes from the MLP cartoon show itself every now and then.

Equestria Games

A game for the family to enjoy has 4-player mode and works like Mario Party/Olympic games with many of the matches Rainbow Dash and Applejack have done during the Ironpony Competition as well as the later featured Equestria Games. There would be the Ironpony Competition mode for basic matches, Equestria Games mode would be taking on the championships and earning medals. This would be so much fun and they should show cutscenes from the cartoon itself every now and then.

Or we can just make another FPS game... :/

My greatest demand is a 3D MMORPG with Lunar Republic and Solar Empire. Still, I don't think it will be permitted by Hasbro to launch. From that, I bet a social SIM open-world MMO will be permitted.

I wonder what makes them forbid fan-made games. Well, at least like what they did to Fighting is Magic project. I think it's not because the fighting part, but because it may ruin Hasbro's chance if they want to launch their own fighting game. Maybe...*shrug*

In that case, I think selling the game to them will work.

They should release a MLP game for the Wii where you use one of those Twister pad accessories. You would have to run on fours the whole time in real life to get around. Just to know what's it like to be a horse.

I'd totally play an MLP arcade beat-em-up/brawler

But realistically, I would love to see them make an RPG, whether it be a Western or Japanese.

But knowing most licensed kids games, they'd either make a 3D platfomer or a poorly made party game

I was thinking a world like TES's Tamriel or Fable's Albion; Full of heroes and villains, Magic, Great beasts to fight, power struggles, and swords and armor.

This I feel would work best for Hasbro's first shot at a MLP game.

Zork. 'Nuff said.

"Crash Bandicut Racing",

That Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Nitro Kart, was actually my favourite karting game for the longest time. It actually had a bit of plot to it. Generally MarioKart games are just racing. Not to mention the characters were funny.

A MLP Game huh?

I fer one support a RPG/Adventure game of sorts available for all platforms (wii,wiiU,3DS,XB360,PS3,Vita & PS4) Its up to Hasbro to make it happen since the franchise is super popular.

See ya!

Could you imagine if computer technology eventually gets to the point where we can have real interactions with game characters?  I mean look at what we can already do with things like Siri.  Some day I might get to actually have real conversations with some version of Pinkie Pie!

That's not impossible, really. I think the most difficult part of making such system is to define the reactions towards the player's actions, and that will need a lot of work, but it's very possible to make.

By the way, your signature looks freaking awesome!

Proably some form of an adventure or RPG type game, or maybe a platformer(2D or 3D) You could also do a racing game like you can with 99% of things :P.

I don't think MLP makes a whole lot of logical sense as a shooter or a horror type game. If we refer to cannon MLP. However I'm fine with that type of thing, i just don't think it makes logical sense :P.

I could see a platformer or RPG Mlp game making sense, and really most if not all of the genres of games i can think of besides Shooters and horrors would make sense.

I would love a MLP FIM game similar to The Simpsons arcade game. A 6 player beat em' up arcade game with all of our favorite characters, awesome retro gameplay, boss battles, and all kinds of crazy enemies.

No, really. It would be that awesome to me. I would probably spend a entire truck loaded with quarters on it. :P
