This is just a fun little poll. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch over, so no genre bashing.

My favorite subgenre would either be black metal or death metal, It's hard for me to choose.img-1318833-1-tongue.png Maybe I'll make up my mind later.

EDIT: I got rid of Djent and added the option of voting for multiple choices.

EDIT: I added another question.

Doom metal. Don't know why, but ever since I heard some of it for the first time, I very much enjoyed it.

Although, I don't tell many people in real life.

I think I've made up my mind now. I'm going to vote for black metal because, I actually started getting into metal with black metal. The first metal band I enjoyed listening to was Gorgoroth and then I strated listening to Celtic Frost and Mercyful Fate.

Honestly I like grindcore a lot because the lyrics are usually hilarious. These are the lyrics from a song by a band named Torso F*ck. I'm gonna censor out a certain two words in these lyrics and replace it with poop: I'm also gonna remove one line because zomg kids are on these forums still gasp

Last night I had the most exciting dream
In it I was surrounded by many asses
I got pooped all over
poop splattered from every direction
I felt like I was in heaven
Suddenly I woke up, it was only a dream
But why was I covered with diarrhea?

Outside of this I do enjoy black metal quite a bit.

Do you listen to Anal C*nt? They have some the funniest (and most offensive) song titles ever, like "You're pregnant so I kicked you in the Stomach" and "I Lit Your Baby on Fire". LOL

I love Thrash and Nu metal equally, and I like Symphonic so you put me in a rough spot.  I had to select 1 group from each subgenre.  Anthrax, SOAD, and Edguy and choose which I like most.  Nu metal won out.

I like Heavy Metal. stuff like death "metal" or black "metal" or these other kinds of "metal" really is not what true metal really is. In my eyes, anything from Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest to Dragonforce and Powerwolf is what Heavy Metal is, was, and ever will be.

If post-hardcore counts then I guess I'd say post-hardcore. Otherwise, metalcore or deathcore would be my favorite sub-genres of metal

Post-hardcore isn't metal, it's a form of punk.

Led Zeppelin isn't metal IMO. And what do you mean by "death metal and black metal aren't what true metal is"?

Death metal, all the way. I indulge in traditional, melodeath, black and doom sometimes. (In fact my first metal record was Dissection's "Storm of the Light's Bane.") But death is the best. It's all about heaviness, intensity and exploring the forbidden. It's the exact opposite of the whiny generic love songs that drive me nuts on the radio and I love it.

Back when I had my lousy job, there was nothing like coming home, getting buzzed and headbanging to "Altars of Madness."

Dude , Altars of Madness is like one of the greatest death metal albums out there. I'm also a HUGE Death fan, I have all their albums and I can't even pick a favorite.

"Symbolic" for me. If it's even possible to choose the BEST Death album! "Symbolic" was just beyond perfection. Way more advanced than what other bands in the genre were doing. Their sound by that time was so discordant it went right back around to being harmonic. Everything fit together. Chuck Schuldiner really was a visionary. (Their lyrics are amazing too, right up there with Benediction's "Transcend the Rubicon.")

If I ad to choose one, it would either be Spiritual Healing or Human. Although, I've listened to Scream Bloody Gore countless times.huh.png

I partially agree with that. You can't really compare Metallica to all that djent/metalcore/whatever. You know what I mean. They're all metal, but I wouldn't call the latter heavy metal. It's just... too heavy to be heavy metal. I like to call all that "heavier" stuff (death, black, etc.) extreme metal.

I voted for Power metal, because my favourite band is Rhapsody of Fire.

Power! Power! POWER!

Yeah, ever since some dude introduced me to power metal, I've been a fan,

Sabaton (Yes, power/heavy), Iron Mask, Freedom Call, and not forgetting the brilliant Gamma Ray.

Aye, it's just so amazing and awesome! And it's shiny too!

Skillet, Crush 40, and Three Days Grace

^LEGEND! Three most excellent bands there..Wait..I'm not the only one ever to listen to Crush 40? ....Madness...

To be honest, sub-genre-ing (I made up a word) is my least favorite part of being a fan of metal.  I get that some bands fit a niche and that some bands just get a certain sound, but not everything has to be sliced and diced and packed into several hundred tiny boxes.  For me, at least, it isn't about do I like NWOBHM vs meldodeath, its about the particular bands in question.  I think the trend to quantify each band takes away from the enjoyment of the music.

Speaking of NWOBHM, have some Motorhead!

Progressive Metal, easily. I also really like Thrash, Death, and various -cores, though. And plenty of others, but those are the main ones.

Also, can somebody explain to me how Djent is a genre? As far as I know, it's a guitar playing technique. Is any band that uses it considered a Djent band? Because that seems kinda stupid. That's like saying, any band that double kicks bass drums is in the Doublekick genre.

The thing about metal genres is that there isn't one specific genre that I'm really into. I like a little bit of different ones, plus there's several that I'm just not really a fan of. I like a little bit of thrash, metalcore, progressive, alternative, nu, etc. I am typically not a big fan of the more extreme metal genres like deathcore and grindcore.

By the way, could you maybe make it so we can vote for multiple choices?

If we can get "djent" off the list I'll be happy. But my vote goes to prog (which is what "djent" actually is). Long song structures, as well as a lot of innovation.

Hello!

Obviously, tradinional, classic heavy metal. for me to actually enjoy metal, it can never go anywhere farther than thrash metal... Anything above that level is just junk to me...

Well, I made it so you vote for your SINGLE FAVORITE genre. But, I might think about it.img-1320563-1-huh.png

EDIT: I just changed it so now you can vote for multiple options.

I just added it since some people on here like it. *insert pony shrug*

Well a lot of early death metal and black metal is actually VERY similar to thrash. Just listen to bands like Possessed, Venom and Bathory.
