music Am I the only brony that prefers to listen to 80s music more than today's music?

I feel left out, because I'm a brony that seems to prefer 80s music over today's music. I see most of the brony musicians playing out today's music genres like dubstep, electropop etc.

I would prefer the Pet Shop Boys over Lil' Wayne.

I mostly like New Wave and Synthpop from the 80s, although I do listen to progressive rock, rock and R&B from the 80s and early 90s.

Am I the only one or is there anyone else that shares the same music taste as me (or at least similar)?

P.S. Also more weird is that I'm 13.

Wait...

There are Bronies here who like Lil' Wayne?

*Takes a puff on pipe*

Hand me my shotgun.

Just kidding of course. I do like 80's music a lot due to my parents, but I wouldn't say I like it more than any other era. I'm a fan of a lot of metal bands and rock in general from that time, such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, and others. I also like some rap from that time period too.

So now, you're not alone in liking 80's music, but I wouldn't say that I like it more than current music, as I said before.

Are you kidding? Today's music sucks. I can blame you for listening to music made in the 1700s!

I like to listen to Beethoven, Mozart, Choplin, etc.

I am more of a classical lover...

Do I detect a fellow ThePianoGuys and Lindsey Stirling fan? I'm not entirely sure. If you haven't heard of them, go check them out on YouTube!

Also, don't forget that record producers are shoving volume up their asses. Modern music sound distorted because of the loudness war. LOL, producers fail. Vinyls are going to better than CDs (unless the CDs are before computers).

Yeah, I love 80-90s music much more than modern stuff like wubstep, rap and modern pop.

I don't mean to sound so so rude but,...

OK look, there is plenty of good music today, you just haven't found it. Even back in the 80's there was cheesey pop music and NO you're not wierd. I'm 15, I listen to music from the 80's, 90's, today, whatever, etc.

Since you like 80's music, I'll share a few of my favorite 80's artists:

Pixies

Sonic Youth

Husker Du

Social Distortion

Bathory

Celtic Frost

Venom

Mercyful Fate

Death

Exodus

Slayer

Destruction

Sodom

Sepultura

Ah, 80s music. You're not alone, fellow brony. I grew up with my stepdad always tinkering with his radios, and in doing so, he introduced me to the older generation of music. It may not be a PREFERENCE over newer music, but I certainly have a soft spot for doo-wop and 50s/60s music. Hand me some Edsels, The Marcels, anything really, and I'll listen to it. 70s/80s is also cool with me. ^^

Additional note: I'll always love 90s bands like New Found Glory and blink-182. Always. I love being a 90s kid.

If you look past that you'll find plenty of good stuff in the underground. IMO, there's plenty of great metal bands comming out of Sweden right now.

No it doesn't, you just haven't found it.

Cheesy pop music is better than the crappy and ear irritating modern pop music. I can't stand that.

Pop music wasn't so bad in the 1980s, sure, it might of been cheesy in the early 80s. (Anyone want Pop Muzik?) but its better than modern pop.

Oh come on now, the lyrics were about sex and partying back then and they still are now. The stuff on the radio nowadays may suck but if you turn off the radio and look somewhere else, you might find something good.

Maybe...I do listen to some of today's music but however not a lot as the 1980s.

As for sex and partying in lyrics back in the 1980s, it probably is in the late 80s but its pretty rare in the early and mid 80s.

I like both...

honestly, guys, I don´t understand why you hate on todays music. If we exclude a few artists and dig a bit deeper you find a meaning, you find love, you find the feelings you might miss in todays music.

And even if you don´t, try to enjoy! I can listen to dubstep and electronic/ house music, I can feel the pure beat without lyrics, and it makes me happy, I can dance to it!

From the 60s music to the recent there is a difference, people call that PROGRESS, and in all honesty, I love progress...

In the 80s and 90s there was only good music? Get your hay straight, the crappy music from that era just dissapeared into the hades of bucked up music...

Er, no, the songs always rather have been about sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. However, somehow in the '80s, they managed to make an enjoyable song with good lyrics, a decent tempo, and no ear-bleeding autotune, while still making it a good party song.

Actually, they used their true voices (no autotune) to sing, and there wasn't a lot of computers back in the 1980s. Even if they manage to get a hold of one, I think that a Commodore PET was expensive.

Anyone like Pete Shelley?

How wonderful! I love those two, easily my two favorite artists/groups on YouTube! biggrin.png They're exceptional at making funny videos, while also blending expert music artistry into everything. <3

@ That's what I meant. Without the ear-bleeding autotune everyone uses these days.

Dude, just look at all the cheesey hair bands from the 80's (like Poison and Motley Crue)

Ha. Surprisingly, I'm not into Poison and Motley Crue. I don't know why, but I listen to bands like The Fixx etc.

Yes, but it seems like not a lot of great music gets mentioned anywhere. I'll try to find some.

I love 80's music, I love it alot more than today's music, that's for sure.

I love listening to 80's rock like Queen, which is my favorite band. So, no my friend, you are not alone.

Now I have to find a Delorean so I can go back to said period of musical history and hang out with Freddie Mercury.

That's because you're supposed to look for it. You have the internet to look for music with, people back in the 80's didn't.

Since other people are posting they're favorite 80's songs, I guess I might as well too.
