music Am I the only brony that prefers to listen to 80s music more than today's music?

I listen to and like some older songs, its not that I don't listen to any newer music, however I'm not much of a Electronic or dubstep or even rap person really, i hardly listen to that to be totally honest.

I've listened to some older 80's bands and such, but I don't particularly pay a whole lot of attention to the year the music was made most of the time, I just listen to whatever I like :P.

I'm pretty accepting of basically all music types to some degree. I'm more of a Rock person mostly, but I've found a little of most if not all genres I like at some point.

I know for sure your not alone on liking 80's music though :P.

Of course, people even thought I had weird taste in music because I didn't like most of that new stuff. Personally though, music today doesn't begin to compare with all of those bands that began in the early 90's and before that.

Prog Rock Godzilla... I believe that all music should be seen beyond genres. I absolutely hate TLT, Toaster, most rap, etc. But I absolutely love Eurobeat and most Rave music because it's a lot of fun.

I dislike the modern American music culture. I used to think I disliked Pop, Rap, and Hip Hop, but it turns out I actually only dislike AMERICAN songs in those genres (Or maybe it's not just America. Pretty much everything on the radio regardless). The DJMAX series has great music, and a lot of it is officially in those three genres (as well as one Rap Metal piece, which is a genre I had only heard negative things about from anyone), but it's a Korean game with most of the music made by members of the development team. Even if the words are in English, I still prefer those songs to most of what I hear on the radio so it's not just the language, it's something about what is considered "popular" here that I don't like.

I haven't really listened to too much from the 80's, most of it either to me is okay or not in my favor,. Actually almost everything I listen to is stuff existing today but not on the top charts, as well as stuff from the 70's and 90's. There's actually a little bit of stuff from the 80's that I like, mostly stuff that would classify as "1st Wave Rock" like Depeche Mode, and The Cure.

Usually, most of the time, the 80s music I listen to is mostly from Europe artists, like British artists, German artists, Falco etc.

Definetly not!  img-387689-1-5e7kmu.png   I've always been on a strict musical diet of Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Madonna, Quiet Riot, and AC/DC and such...

I think that it's wonderful to listen to older music.  smile.png

I always have my fair share of times where I'll dive into 80s music for awhile. Such a good decade of music if you ask me.

The thing with today's music is that you have to look beneath the surface for good bands. The Indie Rock and Pop scene is where I find most of my music now a days.

I completely agree with this. I think it's a bit unfair that a lot of people completely dismiss certain music from a decade, especially modern music. Yes, there's a lot of crappy music, but here's the thing: there's always been crappy music! We just remember all the good stuff from the past and all the crappy songs are (mostly) forgotten from the past, while we as the current generation have to deal with a lot of the crap while trying our best to dig under the upper layer of terrible music and find the gems underneath.

*Takes a puff on pipe*

Or, at least, that's my take on it.

I think the 80s had a lot of music better than todays music, although New Wave, Synth Pop and Rock aren’t really to my tastes, I’m more into dance music specifically Disco and House.

To me a lot of mainstream House on the radio, is appalling. The quote ‘House is a feeling’ just dosen’t apply in my book to that stuff, it lacks the Soul and Funk of the dance music of old.

Saying that, I do like a lot of new music coming out but most of it isn't really on the radio I don't think. I like stuff you get on Future Disco compilations, and on the Defected records label and all the more underground none famous producers music

I've not found much from the 80's that really love. I'm more of a early jazz, swing, 40's pop sort o fellow.

*switches pipes with hash and puffs*

I agree with some of the other fellows here. You can't just listen to the tat on whatever radio station the middle school bus is playing. To find the best, most flavorful sounds you gotta explore a little.

Then, I guess you like 70s music. Don't worry, I like some 70s music too. In fact, I like some disco along with New Wave. Still, Disco was simple.

I'm still exploring. Lol, I don't go on a bus though. But, I do have an open mind though.

Man, my dad still has a bunch of LaserDiscs and Vinyls in his collection, somewhere in storage.

By the way, have you heard of Level 42? They incorporate some jazz-funk into their music. You should probably listen to their early songs though, because that has the most jazz-funk.

I can't stand Turning Japanese by The Vapors. I used to like, now I don't. Same goes to Aneka's Japanese Boy. I think they're all in GTA: Vice City.

Can't stand when seeing comments on YouTube saying "GTA Vice City" or something similar to that.

I love 70s music to, there was some Disco in the 80s though mainly from European bands like Change and Italio-Disco artist ..... which technically Change was. Change had the black American sound to them though what with all the vocals from American black singers like Luther Vandross and sounded like Chic which is a 70s band I love smile.png

Italo disco...Yeah, I listened to one of it. It was Gloria by Umberto Tozzi.

I always preferred the one by Umberto Tozzi than the cover by Laura Branigan.

If you want any help exploring some great bands and artists, then I might as well throw some suggestions, judging by your name I'm guessing that you like a lot of Progressive Rock, if so then I'd say Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson's works. If you want some good modern electronic music then I'd highly recommend Daft Punk, Infected Mushroom, and Crystal Castles. If you're okay with screaming/growling then Kvelertak, Isis, Dir En Grey, and Cult of Luna are incredible bands.

Oh and also if you decide to listen to Infected Mushroom then I'd say stay away from their album Army of Mushrooms, that one has a higher dubstep/electro influence in it, try Vicious Delicious (my personal favorite album by them). Also if you wanna go for a Daft Punk album, listen to Discovery since everyone (including people who aren't a fan of electronic) loves that album.

I can't stand half the sh*t on Vrock. It's either really good or really crappy. They lumped in Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax with Motley Crue, Quiet Riot and Autograph. -.-

I actually prefer The Wave 103 and Emotion 98.3 over Vrock. But, I haven't played GTA in a while and most of the time I just listen to VCPR or WCTR.

Yep. I will brohoof you for that. Man, I haven't listened to Daft Punk in a very long time. I think the last time I heard it was about 5 years ago. Pretty long isn't it?

Well Daft Punk do have a new album coming out now, from what I'm thinking it's probably gonna be in the same style of Discovery, since there were quite a few fans who were disappointed by the stuff from Human After All, including me.
