-Metallica - Death Magnetic has probably worst mixing and mastering ever done in music industry.

I liked the music itself but yeah the mixing and mastering was horrible. The sound quality straight up sucks.

anyone familiar with people arguing if Disturbed is metal or not for example?

Some people don't think Disturbed is metal? WOW I'de like an explanation for this lol

Actually Disturbed itself said that they don't play metal, so here we have a little problem xD This is why genres are pointless. It's really easy to get into disagreement that can't be resolved.

-Classical music should be respected no matter what and it is place where "taste" does not exist. Without it there would be no jazz, blues, electronic music, rock, metal, even rap. It all has roots in this one genre. Deal with it.

Actually, it was classical music that started it, but jazz opened the doors to every other genre. The root is classic, but the actual place where the real endless amounts of creativity started was jazz... At least, that is my opinion. Dunno if it's unpopular.

This is something not enough people know. People also like to argue Steve Vai vs. Yngwie Malmsteen. Truth is, they're both garbage. Generally, if most of a guitarist's fans compliment him on his "virtuosity", then it's probably ultrashit.

Check Pat Metheny out. Huge composer, very virtous, very creative. Both in skill and in timing he is amazing! Though it's jazz, I don't know if you like stuff like that.

How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Three percent of the population likes classical music, if only we could get it up to four percent we'd be back in business and all our problems would be over." How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Everybody loves classical music! They just haven't found out about it yet!" It's an entirely different world. It's what you make of it that counts.

I found an easy way to find out if you've inspired someone. If their eyes are shining, you know you're doing it!

When I was in school classical music was considered boring by people in my class and school in general, this genre does not get half as much respect as it should as it is considered "old fashioned" due to totally unknown to me reasons. This is why I consider this opinion unpopular. And maybe You're right, I was never too great in history of music. All I know for sure is that classical music has inspired a lot of metal guitarists.

I hate all of it. I don't see how anyone can enjoy them.

Yeah, from the abysmal Dubstep renditions of whatever the newest MLP song is to the ear bleeding fan made lyrics, I just don't like it.

I can't agree with you more. IMO the only true pinnacles of musical artistic perfection are jazz and classical. All the other genres are ok I guess, but they are nothing near the endless possibilities of classical and jazz. The boundaries are so much wider in those two genres. Especially in jazz. I have put my opnion on this on the general unpopolar opinions thread as well.

there's some decent stuff, but even that stuff isn't as good as someone with a label.

Except for Phileo's "The Way She Flies". It's produced really well.

Artistic perfection exists in general in those bands that don't look on borders of genre they are supposed to play. Music should not be limited by any genre and it is something many artists today forget about (I am big fan of metal and rock music. And too many bands in those genres are afraid of experimenting and stay in "safe zone" without even being able to write decent music in such zone). Every genre can provide wide variety of possibilities. And has very big field for experimenting and trying to add something new. It's only up to bands to release their full potential instead of limiting themselves for some ridiculous reasons.

Exactly, and that is why I love jazz so much. There are no boundaries, while it still sounds good. (Unlike atonal music, or aharmonical, I don't know the english term for it.) and so many muscisians within the genre inspire eachother to extend over their boundaries, and the boundaries of jazz itself. THAT, is true art :3

In metal and rock music there are such musicians too. Problem is - they are not as popular as they should be. Many metal fans are terribly close minded and bash such bands at least in Poland ;/ First person I have in mind is Steven Wilson. I really like both his solo work and music he makes with Porcupine Tree. If You don't mind rock music I strongly recommend Porcupine Tree's album Fear of a blanket planet :) And maybe if You want let's move this chat to PMs because we are starting quite an offtopic here?

- Trumpet is the best instrument.  Any argument against it is automatically invalid (#trumpetego #sarcasm)

- Flute players are wimpy.

- I don't like highly experimental music, especially Imagine Dragons.

- I go to a concert for the music, not some fancy visuals.  It's a concert, not a fashion show.

- I admit 1D is good even though they aren't my type of music.

- R.I.P Easy-E.

- Almost every type of music today has become way to cliche stylistically.

- I believe that the Illuminati is somehow involved in the music industry.  I know it sounds stupid and I don't care what anyone else says about it.

Rush Related Opinions:

- RUSH IS THE GREATEST BAND EVER, as told by Jason Segel and Chester Cheeto (paraphrased).

- Unlike most Rush fans, I don't like metal that much.  I'm more of a Boston and Sting type of guy.

- I think the original Vapor Trails is better than the remix.  The double voicing just kill it for me.

- I actually like their synth era stuff.

- Hold Your Fire is probably my favorite album from them (If not then 2112).

- All three members are the best at what they do, especially Alex who needs more recognition.

I have a strong dislike for the new-age gender terminology. You can be transgender, you can even be mid-gender, but you cannot lack a gender. Gender and sex are synonymous with each other. You can be not attracted to any other person, but you cannot, as a Homo sapien, be asexual. Humans do not asexually reproduce, nor are any humans capable of living without an endocrine system. Accept this and find a different terminology and stop trying to change the dictionary.

Wait... this has something to do with music?

-I don't care for Vapor Trails at all except for the song One Little Victory

-Some of their synth era stuff is good, and some is boring to me

  • Jazz and Classical music are highest forms of music of all times (by far).

People who don't see the difference between technicaly good music and catchy shit they like subjectively annoys the hell out of me... which means most people out there who have no idea about any standards verifying good TECHNIQUE AND PROFESSIONALISM.

There's absolutely nothing special about Kurt Cobain except that he was an idiot.

The Beatles were special in their times but I don't see what could possibly make them special nowadays. They're not even good, they were just something new when they started this band.

Rihanna sings everything out of tune and I mean EVERYTHING. I remember when her crap wasn't corrected this much and it sounded horrible but even now when they pay much more attention to it, she sings so bad I can hear all those sounds they fixed- they have to change them THAT much.

Seeing where most of rap is headed currently makes me sad but when I find rap with unique/ smart/ funny lyrics and people refuse to even give it a chance just because it's rap makes me very angry. Same about pop music + this genre can still have some really melodic, nice tunes sometimes.

One of the most annoying things people do is when they ask what music genres do I listen to so I name like 20 or more and then they say that it's lame cause I don't have my own style. ...................exfuckinguse me? Yeah, sure, limiting yourself to just few is way cooler. Totaly.

I actually agree a little bit(on the dubstep stuff). I like a quite a few brony artists though, like Mando(Long Way From Equestria is still awesome and brings a tear to me eye because I agree with it's message so much)

To put in a plug, this guy(Evening Star) is one of the best brony(and best internet based, period) musicians I've ever heard:

On topic, I have a couple:

Nickleback is actually okay I like them

Same with Creed

Not all Pop music sucks

I agree, they were innovative and influential in their time, but it's been several decades since then, and they are just plain overrated now. They really aren't even impressive musicians at all to be honest.

I think the "war" between physical and digital formats of music and how people try to debate over which one is better is really stupid. They both obviously have their advantages and disadvantages and we live in an age where you can have both.

It's like comparing Digital Art to just... normal one (however it's called in english). Sure both can be equaly pleasing aestheticaly but one takes almost no skills whatsoever and second one takes years of studying, practice, learning to compose, play at least 2 instruments (piano and whatever you choose) and perfecting technique. Technicaly it sounds WAY better, no electronic sounds could ever replace beautiful sund of any real instrument.

Subjectively, both types are good but objectively, physical formats of music will always be superior- there's much more heart and work put into them and you can actually hear how it affects tune at the end (unless you're one of those "musicaly deaf" people x.x ).

Also, do everyone a favor and never mention this opinion in front of real musicians cause it would be just plain disrespectful to them and all their work.

I'm not sure how unpopular these are, but:

The Beach Boys are one of the best bands of all time. True, their lowest lows were pretty bad (Kokomo...), but their highest highs are some of the best popular music ever made.

I don't "get" The Velvet Underground and similar bands.

Not all country is bad, though most modern mainstream country is.

I like sappy, nostalgic ballads and I have no shame.

Will probably add more when I think of them.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?
