Do You Find Yourself Put Off By Threads With Many Posts?

Personally, I do, and quite often at that. If I see a topic that may potentially interest me on any forum, I instantly check to make sure there are only a few dozen replies before I make a move. I don't like submitting input to threads with a load of posts already made to them, as I fear my voice will be a mere speck of paint on the canvas. For this reason I haven't often posted amongst you all, because there aren't a whole lot of interesting topics that don't include a million different people speaking all at once. Do any of you fellows out there having similar feelings in regards to this? Or am I being left to starve here?

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. But most of the time yea, it does. I feel like i'm in a crowd and everyone is shouting so no one can hear me talk.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Some of the more solid long term ton of posts IMO need a cleanup run on'em.

Lots of "reposts" only get locked and linked to threads with 50+ pages.... So much not even seen anymore

If its that long though yeah bit intimidating to even try posting there. To. Many posts means you may miss something and just be coming off as a fool. Or in some cases missing a good couple of names or just reading a lot of no longer active individuals.

 

Not always the best feeling to consider such overloaded threads IMO.

See, I don't understand that feeling, it's kinda discouraging honestly :c Just because the thread has a lot of replies doesn't mean it's this or that, for me. It's just an organizational difference. I'd rather have one clear topic with many replies than 8 of the same general topic, worded differently.

I used to feel that way.I used to feel as if my comment would be lost in a sea of other comments until I went comment crazy one day,made friends,got brohoofs and all that nice stuff

I do that as well. I find that even just a dozen or so replies is enough to dissuade me from posting. often enough, in those replies, most if not all I would've talked about is already mentioned

Threads with hundreds or even thousands of posts have about the same appeal to me as an overcrowded bus: I'd rather wait for the next one. Maybe I'll get lucky and find those threads before they're meshed into the bigger ones. But such are the realities of a large forum. Can;t do much about it.

Eh, not really, sure I'm a bit discouraged that my comments may be seen by only a few people, but it won't put me off, besides I don't blame people for not reading every reply of every thread.

I share your sentiments mostly, Though, my reasoning for not wanting to comment on large threads, let alone look at them, is because of the sheer amount of reading required to get up to date on the content in the thread as to make sure that I don't say something that was already said.

Well...no. I'll still go in and give my 2 cents to any thread, though if the thread is booming there is a chance it won't get that many views, but I don't let that bother me.

To a degree, I can most certainly agree with you on this.  I prefer to have as much information as possible at my disposal before I decide to post and that can require a lengthy reading on some of the more popular threads.  However,what stops me more often than anything else when I feel that my thoughts and opinions on a subject have already been adequately discussed and represented by previous posts.  Unless I have something more to interject to further corroborate a post, it seems that I all I could post at that point is 'I agree' or something along that nature and that is simply not a sufficient reply to me.  Perhaps this is a behavior I need to break from?

But is it not a speck of paint on a canvas that makes a star? I think large scale input into a conversation is always a good thing, however, that may be the scientist inside me speaking. If it is a topic that I am particularly interested in, odds are that what I want to say has already been said. So instead of inputting, I have fun reading through the post.

Although I do enjoy reading many of said packed topics, I feel completely useless in the community if I don't make significant input at some point, which is fairly difficult to do when anything you have to say has most likely already been said. If you can find something new to say in that deep pit of redundant ideas, that's great, but it isn't very likely.

Eh, not really. I'm pretty much okay with reading dozens of pages of a thread if the thread really interests me and I have something important to say.

 

What often drives me away from a discussion is when the discussion has devolved to a mindless banter and empty talks where a lof of people replied without reading the entire thread, bringing up points that have been debunked pages ago.

All the time. I always imagine those threads as the forum equivalent of a behemoth factory that manufacturers so much of so little value in the eyes of others except for their own posts. The whole concept of it is entirely unappealing.

Yeah, most of the time because I know that anything I might say has already been said at least twice in the hypothetical thread with plenty of replies. But, there are exceptions with certain topics.

Lol yes...Mainly cause I feel left out since everyone else has been in that thread for awhile. With role-plays it's especially hard because I usually don't feel like reading all those posts, trying to figure out the storyline and how far in it is.

It depends on what subject the thread is on if it one that I only have a passing interest in I might not even bother to post because well what can I say that hasn't already been said? But if it is something that catches my eye than I will probably say a few words.

Honestly, not really. I don't usually read posts other than the OP until after I've posted. To be honest, seeing a thread with lots of posts tells me that the thread's interesting, which makes me want to post in it.

I get that feeling, and It seems to happen a lot on this forum. It's such a shame, because I really want to be heard here, but I keep thinking to myself, "It's likely someone might just blaze past it after seeing all the previous posts, which are all almost stating the same opinion".

It doesn't bother me at all, however I never read every single response. I usually read the first two pages and maybe the last two, and then add my 2 cents. Does anyone read all 20+ pages of comments on threads like that? XD

Alot of posts doesn't bother me. I tend to stay away if it's only a handful of people making a high volume of posts, tho. It seems more like a private conversation, that way, and I don't want to butt in.

Usually I do not care. Sure, if I post in threads with tons of posts, my post may go unnoticed, but it works both ways. If a thread has tons of posts, then that means it is popular, so many people are looking at it apparently, so my post might be noticed more. With this balance, it doesn't really matter.
