/mlp/, Like or Hate?

I hate 4chan in general because very little is posted there that's even worth a passing glance and what is can be found elsewhere. The transient nature (age limit) of threads and posts also makes the whole thing feel pointless. I prefer message boards where you can get to know people, and newcomers can voice their thoughts on a subject months or years down the line.

When I first encountered /mlp I was kind of excited. There were some funny pictures on there and whatnot, but as I continued my adventure deep into the darker reaches of /mlp I became frightened and scared. There was no proper way to communicate with people and most thoughts on there were just a jumbled mess. It definitely has its fair share of NSFW content, but not anymore than any other 4chan board. I have since given up on browsing /mlp because there is a much better sense of community and structure here at MLPForums than at /mlp.

I spend more time there than I do on normal MLP related forums. I honestly like /mlp/ more. People there seem more normal than on other forums, and don't really get offended at certain things.

Plus, some of the threads are hilarious.

This is how I like to think of 4chan in regards to MLP:

 

Like Generation 1 did for Generation 4 now MLP: FIM, 4chan provided much needed foundation for the fanbase, allowed the show's broader audience to gain the attention and publicity it needed, and it had its share of positive and bright moments. 

 

BUT

 

Like Generation 1, 4chan is also a clusterf**k of a place, poorly ran and managed from what I've seen and not something that future generations of the fanbase should fallback upon for ideas. 

 

Most of my knowledge of 4chan is via their spreading and creating memes like the Rly Owls, Nyan Cat (Dash), and the cat memes very rarely do I ever go on the site. I don't care for the crude sex and gore content or the immature 1337 of the site. Sorry for my ignorance, but I'll take my chances and continue avoiding 4chan. I've been around other sites with better moderation and better structure from what I've seen.

I like the place better than this forum. I like the discussions there, and the threads more, I spend more time there than in the forums too, and no, it is not full of Rule 34 (it is there, however, i dont mind it much), and whoever says they have "unintelligent discussions" are just getting it from the crap they hear from others and the Pony thread simulators (which are meant to poke fun at the board, not to make it look like it's full of idiots) 

 

I still consider the forums my internet "home" because I've met most my friends here, but i like the /mlp/ board too much for my own good :3

Eh, I haven't been there in months. It used to be funny, and there were a few bits of actually interesting info in the mess (MLPG, Tulpa G, etc), but TBH still not interesting enough to keep my attention. Not worth trying to sort through all the other nasty stuff.

 

So no, I don't like /mlp/. I don't hate it either. It's just kinda...there, to me.

In my experience it has the highest concentration of the most horrible things this community has to offer. There is a horrible vocal minority in every fanbase and it seems a large portion hangs out on /mlp/. Every time there is a controversial topic the most ridiculous venomous statements I see are posted there. They couldn't even make a thank you collage for Lauren Faust without including a pony covered in inappropriate bodily fluids and insulting a member of the community. Heck even the production team recognizes how horrible that place can be. So to answer your question no I dislike that place. Unlike this forum or other places the irrational and crazy members seem to outweigh the rational awesome ones.

I don't like or hate it. I don't have anything to do with the MLP section of 4chan; in fact I've never even been there. If I want to talk about ponies I can just go here. 4chan sounds too big and too busy. Anything I said there would barely be noticed, unless it was something exceptionally horrible.

I pretty much have a uneasy truce with 4Chan in general, I see them as a necessary evil of the internet, but it's not a place i want to hang around personally(I have been tempted to check out /x/ though). I rather wait for the worthwhile things to reach the outside than go in after them. 

 

 

It isn't THAT bad.

"I want to cum inside X" threads only come up 1/4 of the time. And anything that is more gruesome than that only appears 5/20 of the time. 
So yeah, not that common

 

That's 25% of the content each, adding to 50% total, or half the site(both of those fractions are the same number expressed in two different ways), which is a shit-ton of threads on a site that big. Say 100 threads were posting that day, that's 50 threads between the two.

I enjoy it for getting pictures and a good laugh usually. But yes, it's a total disaster and is very difficult to communicate on. Regardless, I spend most of my time there and it's what I used before I joined here.

Idk honestly, never been apart of 4chan, and from what i typically see there I stay away from it anyways. 

 

I can't really know for sure at all though since I've never experienced it myself, so I can't truly love or hate it.

 

I'd much rather be here anyways though, this is a much nicer community and I can do all the posting of ponies I want anyways, no reason for me to split my time between a million different places anyways.

I hate it, more than most I think. I'll try and spell out why:

1. The shitposting and negativity is so bad that even being remotely positive earns a "Go back to Ponychan, Hasdrone"

 

2. 18 Generals, about 14 of which are ONLY allowed there because of that stupid quarantine

 

3. The elitism. They act as though they're so much better than the rest of us, even though it's pretty obvious that that board is one of the worst on the site. But nope, if you're not from /mlp/, you're some autist with a fedora. The worst part about that is that Moot, the admin encourages this attitude, even though he really doesn't care about /mlp/ and in truth avoids any and all talk abotu MLP since he's afraid of starting some kind of massive firestorm.

 

4. Off topic threads - This wouldn't bother me nearly as much if this wasn't the only place on 4chan that you could discuss ponies. But as it turns out, even in the containment zone talking about the show is a rigurous task.

 

5. The self entitled anons. This goes with the shitposting. Basically, the board is shit, but they like it that way and get extremely hostile towards anyone with a different suggestion of how do do anything.

 

6. Remember that Documentary? I know that it wasn't very popular, but when it went under plenty of Anons had the audacity to practically gush over the failure and pretend they had anything to do with it.

 

7. It started as a "joke" but by now it's pretty much board culture for them to say "/mlp/ is for people who hate the show and its fans" which of course makes it a nightmare to try and talk about anything, because the thread then turns into nothing but shouts of "PANDERING" and buzzwords.

 

8. Tripcode users are attention whores that add little to nothing to the discussion.

 

9. Now, I don't mind the R34 and the occasional grimdark, but they take it up a few notches by posting scat, diapers, fluffy ponies, which is actually just torture porn, and this happens regularly. Very aggravating.

 

10. Lauren Worship. "Season 1 was the best season and every other season is bullshit, because Lauren" Basically, if you're anyone besides Faust on the team, you're treated like an idiot that doesn't know what they're doing.

 

And finally 11. Raids. The people they raid are usually bad artist/writers on Deviantart, whom I don't exactly care for. But it's more about the implication that they NEED these people, that they're helping them by doing so. Disgusting.

 

Now before I wrap up, I know that /mlp/ is not one guy. But they behave so much like a hivemind that it gets hard to tell anymore. Now, knowing all of this you can imagine my general emotions when I found out that Lauren had visited that cesspool and claimed that it's "the best place to hear unbiased opinions" I wasn't there that day, but everything I've seen, and heard just points to them tearing Mccarthy and season 3 apart and Lauren agreeing. So I won't beat around the bush here, I found it insulting that she went to them of all people first and my opinion of her has lowered even further. Now everyone else I've told about my opinion on her going there has gotten very angry at me, so at this point, whatever.

/mlp/ has it's good sides. I myself never actually post anything , I just lurk. The bad sides are fairly obvious. I mostly go there just to get a laugh, which is extremely easy to do, if you can ignore the other stuff.

So apparently, An admin explained now said that the board is (And always was) SFW. So now that everyone is pissed that they now have to follow rules (Which is hilarious), they are leaving 4chan and moving to MLPchan. To understand this site, imagine if someone put /mlp/ though a machine that separated it then put it into to categories. Normal Pony discussion (A.K.A Ponychan), and the porn-filled clusterfuck. Take a wild guess which part of MLPchan their moving to.

 

What was once a disturbing humble community, is not the base for a crap ton of "Anyone from /mlp/?" threads. And then, we have the people who are planning an ATTACK on 4chan for making them follow there preset rules (Still hilarious).

 

Overall, I couldn't care less. They suddenly cry and act like they give a shit about the show, and I laugh at everything

/mlp/ is, like every other place in the MLP fandom, a shithole for the most part. It has too much porn for my tastes, and show discussions tend to be sidetracked into talk of which ponies to rape, or which are raping each other, etc... However, my roots are in imageboards, both 4chan and the various pony related ones, and I vastly prefer the format to a forum. Additionally, i like the ability to post anonymously, to use reaction images, and generally to be more free with my posting. I dont have to worry about getting banned for saying something offensive or just generally doing what I please. 4chan has always been much more of my thing though. /sp/ in particular (last night during the stanleyc up final was particularly memorable for all the trolling and making fun of boston. In general, its a lot more fun than just about anywhere on the internet, but people tend to have bad first impressions because of the lack of understanding of the culture there

 

Tl;dr it's alright, not really my thing, I just prefer better boards on 4chan

Theres just much better places with much better communities like here that I'd much prefer, and I like the format here, not to mention I've grown attached to here and become more accustom to routinely coming around here.
