gaming Pokemon X and Y Discussion Thread

Ugh... Looks like the competitive space is going to be thrown into limbo again...

While I am really happy that mawile and ampharos are getting some attention,  what I'm curious about is why it was these Pokémon that were chosen. The selection appears very random to me (lucario and blaziken?) and I wonder why they decided to give them attention and not mega farfetch'd or mega luvdisc (smogon would have a field day...)

Oh well, time will tell.

And here I thought my all time favorite Pokemon couldn't get any cooler. MegaBlaziken, you shall be mine! Hell, it even says there's going to be an event giving away a special Torchic holding something called a "Blazikenite". What that means I have no idea, but can't be anything but awesome.

 

Can't say the same about MegaLucario, though he's the only one of the six revealed designs that I don't like. Also, is it my imagination or does MegaAbsol have wings? Possibly gain the ability to learn flying moves maybe?

Yeah, the new designs look awesome, and the blazikenite is apparently an item required for evolving it into mega blaziken or something.

 

Lucario's design is already pretty well done, its kinda hard to make it really any better to be fair, i think its still cool, makes him look pretty threatening .

 

Yeah Absol has wings, so i guess its possible, maybe he'll become half flying type .

 

Only issue is apparently this is some kind of in battle transformation, atleast according to the link Twiliscal posted, so i'm not sure how that will effect moves learned, or if it'll retain after battle or what, or if it'll even be able to work in competitive play.

Well, like i've mentioned before, this may not even work in competitive play, its an in battle thing, so it may not work since it apparently may require use of the megastone in battle, and may not even last outside of battle, who knows for sure.

 

I agree that mawile needs attention, and ampharos needs attention, but it does worry me slightly about the others, who are already really strong.

 

However, i'm still thinking this is more akin to form changes, where it changes stuff but doesn't increase overall stats.

 

But yeah, time will tell, maybe once this comes out in English it'll have more info or something idk .

 

Even if this stuff does work in competitives, i beat most of it will be uber tier, heck maybe higher, depending on if this changes stats and stuff, theres always OU and UU and RU and NU .

 

I don't competitively battle alot frankly anyways, but i don't think game freak is going to totally throw something blantantly crazy OP into the game, they are aware of competitive play afterall.

 

Time will tell though i guess.

Well, I hope they make more pokemon types that we can know. So far we are getting quite a few fire types being introduced early on, which is strange considering we mostly have to wait LATER to get them. If only we can get a grass type that early on.

Call me stupid, but what type of differences are there between X and Y?

 

Remember, I'm giving the series another go since the first generation, and I have little knowledge on the newer generations.

 

I'm still lost on the whole concept, but I'm a Hardcore MLG gamer, so I'm willing to put the time and effort to be the very best no one ever was.

Like all the others, there are version exclusive pokemon, and I think there are other differences. Usually there aren't alot of differences besides which legendary you find and the few exclusive pokemon.

Huh, so that's just about it then huh?

 

Well, glad I chose X, I prefer the X legendary Pokemon because of his dark color scheme, presentation, and somewhat resemblance towards Celestia.

So far I think there are only a few confirmed exclusives.

 

X: Clauncher, a lobster thing, and Swirlix, a cotton candy thing

 

Y: Skrelp, kinda like a leafy dragon, and Spritzee, some type of bird thing I don't know

 

And usually there are exclusives for other generations, like say a magmar would go to Y and electivire would go to X. Those were just examples not real.

According to the article, the Torchic is available from October 12 (worldwide release date) to January 15. So long as you get the game sometime within 2013, you should be fine.

That's great! Now, if only I could get the other hoenn starters too..then it would be AMAZING.  I wish they would have better starter evolutions if they did so for Torchic.

I'm getting a 3DS very soon, once i have the money in my budget for it , which won't be long, way before october i'm sure. I'll pick up X and Y, but there will be other games i'm sure i'll pick up to.

 

I normally pick the grass starters, i love grass types, but there are exceptions... Like when the fire starters are just to incredibly cute (See Fennekin and Cyndaquil.) ironically i'm have chikarita right now in my Heart gold, but Cyndaquil is my favorite from gen 2, i beat all of crystal with him, so i guess theres some nostalgia thrown in , but hes just... so cute <3.

 

And fennekin is cute, and sounds pretty cool aswell.

 

That said I love Treeko more then its healthy...

You could always beat HG or SS and beat red , you get a kanto and hoenn starter from it, of course... red is freaking hard.. . I'm running through the elite four right now as training for red.

Oh god, I have this really odd feeling that Fire will be a hard type to choose in this game instead of grass. Mainly:The start of the game, we are introduced to fire types so much, its really scary. It shows the game will either get VERY hard or easy, either way, its not a good sign when they appear first hand in the start. Remember those times when you play Pokemon Yellow and you get really really annoyed because your pokemon all are weak against rock type. That and in every other gen, its been that way too. Each pokemon you catch always either have no affect or weak against said type excluding, perhaps, the starter you choose.

Well, i beat crystal's red, and he was still just as hard, if anything red is harder in the newer games, because he has new moves that didn't exist in gen 2.

Its probably because I last played Yellow when I was ten and I was so mad Brock killed me like 6 times that I chucked my SP away....well, its not as bad as what people did seeing Whittney's Milktank!

I just level grinned to like level 20 when i learned slam and finally beat him with some luck .

 

Whittney can be frusterating if she gets that roll out sweep setup :/. especially if your lacking anything strong vs it.

 

Dunno, they may make it harder, who knows, i dunno if they intentionally make any starter hard, more they design the game and realize there is always three starter types.

 

I dunno if there will be another yellow pokemon game, yellow was a cool idea though.

 

I wouldn't mind a remake of it, or even doing something similar, but you know, i can't be the only one wanting an (Official) game based off the orange islands, i know we have ROM's that are based off it, but it would be cool to have an official game like that.

 

Also an Emerald remake on DS is long overdue in my eyes .

 

I dunno, frankly i'll play any pokemon game i feel like playing and any pokemon game game freak releases basically, i'm hooked on pokemon, call me a fanboy, but i love all of their stuff, almost just because its freaking pokemon, of course they do have a tendancy to make pretty awesome games regardless, but the fact i've liked pokemon for so long keeps me entertained by it in a special way i guess.

 

Maybe i'm just easy to please .

Honestly I never had any trouble during any story mode in any generation, if you know half decent moves and your types it's easy and simple. I found that the only games I actually had to grind to beat without legendaries were heartgold and soul silver, (AI in original game was dumb), and 3rd gen Wallace and Steven can kick your under leveled butt because the game had decent AI and over leveled elite four. However if you pick charmander in gen 1 it's a real pain because you almost have to get a nidoran or a mankey to beat Brock. I beat red with 3 pokemon 20 levels under just because his movesets are bad, and his team shares common weakness to fighting pokemon, take close combat, stone edge, fire punch, and thunderpunch on like..... Any fighting type and you'll wreck him.

I'm not sure I do or don't like the idea of Mega Evolution Pokemon, but what I do know is that Pokemon games have consistently been a fun and high-quality experience, so I'm mostly optimistic about X and Y being great games.

 

I sincerely hope that Blaziken will not be the only starter with a mega form. All 18 of the starters should receive one. It's the only fair way to do it. GameFreak better not pick favorites, as that will just taint the game.

I'm not sure that gamefreak is completely playing favorites with who get mega forms. I'm not entirely sure about how popular mawile, absol and ampharos are.

 

also, since the special torchic comes with something called blazikennite it might be that making a mega form for every starter includes making a unique item for all of them.

 

there's a good chance that those who do get a mega do so because it ties in with some story element. the article explains that you have to beat a particular gym leader to find out about the secrets of mega forms

I'm a little iffy, but i think i'll begin to like it more after some more info is released, besides like i said it'll take alot to ruin pokemon for me frankly. I enjoy it regardless .

 

I think all the starters will get a mega form, it only makes sense to me, as for other pokemon its either A, the pokemon ties into the story somehow, B, it'll be available to all pokemon(Pretty unlikely, doing like 600+ new models is pretty difficult.. not to mention coding the pokemon.) Or C, its just gonna be some lower end or less popular pokemon, or it could just be random, but that makes no sense frankly .

Yeah, i'm thinking there will be new items for each of the starters, and whatever others are deemed mega pokemon worthy by game freak.

 

And yeah, i'm thinking mega pokemon are going to tie into the story somehow, especially it being connected to a gym. Guess we'll get more info hopefully soon.

Hasn't been alot of old pokemon showing, but from the ones i remember i haven't seen them far as I remember.

And Why Blaziken? He already has a High Enough Base Total No Need to raise it? Want another OP/OU Pokemon? Really -_-

Oh you have togekiss? Teach it air slash, and nasty plot and you should be able to manage. The only real problem should be pikachu it's attacks suck besides volt tackle so let donphan take care of it. Either give togekiss leftovers or kings rock. Use hyper potions if you need to. 60% chance to flinch with air slash and serene grace ability, 70% with kings rock, reds pokemon are all slow besides pikachu so you can outspeed if you get togekiss to level 65 or so, just let togekiss hog most of the experience with exp share. Simple.

so now that the mega cat is out of the bag, who else do you think will get mega forms? from the looks of the ones revealed, its all either single stage pokemon or fully evolved pokemon.

 

personally I think that honedge will have a mega as well, though that may just be wishful thinking
