I decided to finally start a topic here. So, since I've re-watched all 65 of them over the summer, I want to ask: What are your top ten favorite MLP episodes? I'm sorry if this topic already exists, but I looked for it and couldn't find it (maybe I just didn't look in the right place). Anyway, If you want to, add a reason why you like the episodes you've chosen (but you don't have to). Mine are:

 

10. Party of One : I found Pinkie to be pretty good here.

 

9. The Return of Harmony : Discord was just great.

 

8. Sleepless in Ponyville : Development for Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash!

 

7. Apple Family Reunion : So many great Applejack moments.

 

6. Hurricane Fluttershy : Fluttershy grew stronger both physically and mentally.

 

5. Sisterhooves Social : I loved seeing Rarity's and Sweetie Belle's relationship explored.

 

4. Read it and Weep : Daring Do was awesome, and RD learned that it was okay to have an odd hobby.

 

3. Luna Eclipsed : Princess Luna gets development, which is plain awesome.

 

2. The Cutie Mark Chronicles : We got to learn so much about the mane 6 here. Plus, the fillies were so cute!

 

1. Hearth's Warming Eve : I enjoyed learning the history of Equestria. And the play was pretty funny, too.

1. Apple Family Reunion: did the impossible by giving this Applejack fanboy a favorite Applejack episode, it really touched me unlike any other episode has.

 

2. The Return of Harmony: the first episode I saw starring the first character I started liking.

 

3. Sleepless In Ponyville: that and the next one on my list bumped Rainbow Dash up to my 3rd and later 2nd favorite pony.

 

4. Wonderbolt Academy: we got to see Rainbow Dash's responsible side

 

5. Bridle Gossip: introduced Zecora and was a brilliant parody of the stupidity of racism

 

6. Luna Eclipsed: made me a Luna fanboy, I saw a lot of myself in her in this episode.

 

7. Lesson Zero: Twilight is so cute when she freaks out.

 

8. Keep Calm And Flutter on: Discord coming back alone made the episode worth it even if his reformation was a bit sooner than I would have liked.

 

9. Mmmmystery on The Friendship Express: Pinkie Pie was so hilarious in this episode.

 

10. Family Appreciation Day: Granny Smith is awesome.

1. Ponyville Confidential

This episode was actually quite dark, and showed a lot of different emotions. I really liked how this episode went along, and the ending was very satisfactory. 

 

2. Dragonshy

This was not only a great Fluttershy episode, but a great episode in general. It had a nice adventure-style plot, and showcased Fluttershy's character very well. It had some pretty funny moments too.

 

3. Bridle Gossip

While this episode is somwhat lacking in the plot department and very predictable, it makes up for it with its humor and message. The message, while simple, was very good, but the humor is what makes the episode shine. Probably one of the funniest episodes in my opinion.

 

4. Wonderbolts Academy

This episode was my favorite of Season 3, and it really showed how much of Rainbow Dash has grown as a character. Using a new character very similar to Rainbow Dash in the beginning of the show was very effective in showing the contrast. Not only that, this episode had a more serious tone similar to Ponyville Confidential. And Spitfire making another appearance was a nice bonus for Spitfire fans.

 

5. Fall Weather Friends

This episode surprised me. I typically have pretty low expectations for Rainbow Dash and Applejack episodes, so an episode starring them both didn't seem like an episode I would particularely like. Fortunately, I was very impressed with the episode, and it made me like Applejack and Rainbow Dash a bit more. It had some great moments from both of them, and Twilight tagging along was nice as well. Pinkie Pie and Spike commentating was a hilarious touch as well.

 

6. May the Best Pet Win

I like episodes where there are contests, so I really liked this episode. It was a cute episode that had a very good plot, and good humor.

 

7. Magic Duel

I liked the adventure tone of this episode. While I'm not what you call a huge fan of Trixie, this episode was good nonetheless, and I just really liked it.

 

8. Sweet and Elite

This episode is what made me like Rarity more. Not saying I thought badly of her before viewing, but I never really cared about her character that much. However, this episode did a fantastic job with Rarity's personality, and you could really feel her dilemma. This episode also introduced a very good character: Fancy Pants. And who can forget that amazing song?

 

9. The Cutie Mark Chronicles

This episode provided some much needed backstory for the Mane 6, and it was nice to see them as fillies.

 

10. Sleepless in Ponyville

Finally, a Scootaloo episode in the series. This episode did a great job with Scootaloo, and her relationship with Rainbow Dash was simply adorable.

I dont quite understand the order. Do you mean 10 being your most favorite episode or 10 be your least favorite episode? How would I order them 1-10 or 10-1?

1. Sleepless in Ponyville - Such a cute and overall good episode having Rarity & Sweetie Belle, Applejack & Apple Bloom, and the start of sister development with Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash.

 

2. Lesson Zero -  A crazy yet funny episode which showed Twilight's crazy side.

 

3. Ponyville Confidential - A very quaint episode showing the Cutie Mark Crusaders blackmail and watching Diamond Tiara fail.

 

4. Applebuck Season - A developmental episode showing how Applejack can be stubborn but helpful at times.

 

5. Wonderbolt Academy - Showing Rainbow Dash prove herself in the academy to try to become a Wonderbolt and showing Spitfire once again. The beginning of Lightning Dust, and maybe the end of her as an antagonist.

 

6. Fall Weather Friends - The pretty crazy yet competitive antics of Rainbow Dash and Applejack followed by Twilight winning the race in a plot twist.

 

7. May The Best Pet Win - A very cute episode with Fluttershy and Rainbow singing. <3

 

8. The Last Roundup - Showing that Applejack even in defeat, can still come back victorious.

 

9. Cutie Mark Chronicles - Showing the backstory of the Mane 6, impressive.

 

10. Magical Mystery Cure - Not my favorite episode but, it did have good songs even if it felt like a Disney musical.

Sorry for the confusion. In this case, 10 was my least favorite episode out of these, and 1 was my favorite. It doesn't matter how you order them, though!

8.  Boast Busters - I hate Trixie, but really liked this episode.

9.  Hurricane Fluttershy - Flutterdash love, even though i'm a Gildash and Flutterfire shipper.

10. Hearths Warming Eve - I love the politics scene and every single joke they make.

1. Luna eclipsed (Gotta love the ROYAL CAPS LOCK CANTERLOT VOICE)

2. Sleepless in ponyville (Gotta love the character development)

3. May the best pet win (The song is what made me start watching)

4. The episode in season four which deals with Scoots disability to fly (I know it hasn't aired yet, but I know how it feels to live with a disability which isn't even visible when you look at someone.)

5. It's bout time (Solid Sparkle)

6. Hearts warming eve (It has Equestrian lore as well as that there were no Celestia and Luna back then which may prove that they once weren't alicorns themselves)

7. Return of harmony (It comes with chocolate rain)

8. Magical mystery cure (Love them songs)

9. A Canterlot wedding (Love it even though Shining should've been mentioned earlier because he's very close to Twilight)

10. Keep calm and flutter on (They better show Discords past in season four because right now I'm entirely sure he's actually Star Swirl the bearded)

1. A Canterlot Wedding (parts 1 & 2): This is my very favorite episode because there's just so much happening here, and so much of it brilliant. I might actually be one of the few people who really likes Shining Armor and Cadence individually and as a pair, tho I can see why it's kinda hard to think of them separately. I particularly liked Cadence in this episode because despite having been thrown in a dungeon in complete isolation for who knows how long, she's remained strong for the sake of her love and that is something absolutely impressive. The lesson to be taken from this episode is one that I've always believed in very strongly and I was overjoyed at the fact this series decided to touch on that not just in any random ep, but the one where Twilight's brother and her bff got married no less. Also, THIS DAY ARIA.

 

2. Family Appreciation Day: When I first watched the episode, I really didn't like the impression I was getting from the initial tone but at the end of the episode, Granny Smith completely blew me away. So much that even thinking about it almost makes me want to shed a tear of happiness and excitement. Her retelling of how Ponyville was created, how the Apple family influenced everyone and the shock of how amazing everything she does really is, despite how weird it might look, was spectacular. The episode itself also really makes me think of how much I appreciate my own family despite some of its shortcomings.

 

3. Keep Calm and Flutter On: This episode was also particularly wonderful and another reason why I really like Fluttershy's character. Despite being so afraid of everything, she not only had the courage to face Discord on her own, but even succeeded in reforming him. For starters, it goes a very long way to show just how much she grew over the course of the series. She started out as someone who couldn't even tell a stranger her name to someone who really knows how to put her hoof down when she doesn't agree with something (c wut I did thar?).

 

4: A Friend in Deed: First off, the smile song. I cannot even begin to think how it can be possible not to smile at that song. I adored Pinkie Pie in this episode because she showed just how caring and smart she is despite outward appearances in this ep, not to mention just how far she is willing to go to make friends with people who don't even show the slightest bit of caring. Truth be told, I find that incredibly inspiring about her character as well. And that moment when Cranky is reintroduced to Matilda was yet another scene that made me shed a tear.

 

5: Hearth's Warming Eve: Another really great episode that I really liked because of how well it worked to show how wonderful a society where differences can be set aside no longer how timeless they can be. This is one of those episodes that really goes a long way to show what I believe is idea for society as a whole. We may all have our differences, but that should not be an obstacle because ultimately, we all depend on each other, just as the three tribes do. It really does well to showcase how self-destructive a society which does the opposite is, but that the power of love and friendship can overcome these too easily.

 

6. The Cutie Mark Chronicles: What I liked about this for one is that it showed how the mane 6 got their cutie marks and what it represented for each them, but I think more than that is how it showed the mane characters were all connected from the very beginning without even realizing it. I can understand how this might rub some people the wrong way, but I found it incredibly touching.

 

7: Magical Mystery Cure: All the songs were beautiful in this episode, and the way it was fashioned to be more of a musical than the other episodes was a very nice touch as well. Twilight's anguish at how she felt at fault for changing the "destinies" of her friends and how she came to realize what to do to make her friends normal again was amazingly well done. And then we get to see Twilight's ascension along with throwbacks into all of Twilight's and her friends' past adventures and how those all lead to her present time and how she grew from those experiences.

 

8: Suited for Success: Rarity was wonderful here. Her song, her dedication and all her actions which did really well to show her generous nature, but also the fact that despite being a young mare still, she has her own boutique, her own fashion line and is able to impress even the best of them from Canterlot shows how deep her character can be. I was sorely disappointed not to see more of this in season 3.

 

9: Wonderbolts Academy: This is one episode I liked because it showed Rainbow Dash's growth throughout the series. In the beginning, she was headstrong, she was all about being first, she was all about nothing holding her back. While all those can be great things, she lacked restraint, but this episode showed that she learned the importance of how everything can come with its time and that despite her will to succeed, she's not willing to do so at the expense of others. This ties really well with her element of loyalty.

 

10: Luna Eclipsed: Luna was really interesting in this ep because it was the first time (and sadly the last up to this point) we got to see Luna for who she really is and not Nightmare Moon. Her struggle to adapt to a whole new world and fit in with the people was amazing to watch.

 

And I'm actually surprised Winter Wrap Up isn't on my list after having given serious thought on which episodes were my favorite ones

10.Return of Harmony 

 

Discord is by far the most overrated villain in the franchise. He does nothing unique or special by villain standards or says any funny lines. He's just random. I guess teenagers like random things, not true comedy.

 

But since the Mane 6 were put in an actual psychological danger, I guess I can appreciate the episode.

 

9.The Crystal Empire

 

Sombra had a very unique charm surrounded by an aura of evil I haven't felt in any other villain in the show. Why the hell did they wasted him so much, I don't know.

 

8.Friendship is Magic 

 

The way the characters were presented and the villain was redeemed was perfect. Everything was done really well in this premiere.

 

7.Twilight's Kingdom

 

FINALLY! A true villain arrives! Even though Tirek was very badly represented in this finale, I still like that they introduced him. That new design would look much better if he wasn't so animalistic, muscular, unrealistic and brutal. He didn't felt like the one Tirek from my childhood.

 

6.Equestria Girls

 

Call me crazy, but this is the thing I like most about the 4th Generation of My Little Pony. I for once could take seriously as the ponies were no longer humanistic unrealistic equines, but humans having their normal behaviour. I introduce it here because EqG just feels like it's some longer episode than an actual movie.

 

5.The Quest of the Princess Ponies

 

Lavan, the cheesiest yet awesome villain appears in this episode being campy and threatening. Such a hilarious villain. The princess ponies here have very clear personalities and motivations, so they are a bit identifiable. But then again, Lavan steals the show completely, as he is just SO funny along his minion Sledge.

 

4.Bright Lights 

 

I like the fact that this is probably the episode where the villain appears the latest. Yet, even when he appears less than most of the villains, his presence is felt throughout the entire episode. He's just SO amazingly threatening. Arabus is another one of my favourites just because of the way he sucks the ponies' shadows and turns them insane, just because he enjoys making others suffer. Such a bad-ass. The ponies here aren't at their best, but the songs here are quite good.

 

3.Return of Tambelon 

 

Well, motherbucking Grogar still haunts the nightmares of all foals. He's by far one of the most powerful, threatening and intelligent villains G1 had. Such an evil bastard. I guess the only thing that keeps him from being on Tirek's level is the way he treats his henchdonkey Bray. They both look like a mad couple! The ponies here are very helpless, so It's a bit satisfactory when they win leaving Grogar imprisoned in an alternate dimension and all his slaves have been liberated.

 

2.My Little Pony: The Movie

 

The characters here are done great, the animation is beautiful, the villains are enjoyable and likeable and also surprisingly realistic, while also being awesomely hilarious. Those Witches were pretty much the main protagonists of the movie, which again, even for a movie, it felt like a much larger episode. But this one at least had a much different and much more dangerous horror:

1.Rescue at Midnight Castle

 

The one that started it all. Should be admired by everyone and loved by all. I can't describe how much I love this episode. But Tirek in this episode with so much little screen time is able to show himself as the Greatest MLP villain of all time, and one of the best 80s cartoon villains I've ever seen.
