'Button's Adventures' - JanAnimations at it again!

Sorry if there's already a topic regarding this animation already, but as I didn't see it anywhere, I assumed that, while it may have been posted in the pinned video thread, it didn't get its' own topic. Please mods, have mercy on my post. I didn't mean to post a duplicate, I was just-

For those of you who somehow don't know who JanAnimations is, it's a Youtube channel responsible for some of the fanbase's most astonishingly well-done fan animations. One of their top works was a music video that went along with MandoPony's 'Picture Perfect Pony' song, found here. Which, I believe, happened not long before Hasbro and DHX found him, corrupted his soul and adopted him into their corporate world of villainy. At the time, it was also treated as one of the most show-accurate animations out there, winning many over. Even today, Jan's works win people over where Double Rainboom and others have not.

 

During Galacon, they premiered a project that had been advertised several months previously, called 'Buttons' Adventures'. It's a series of animations based off of, you guessed it, somepony's OC a background pony seen back in this song, as our 'too young' pony. A cute little colt playing the video game box, of which sparked its' whole other discussion about where Equestria exactly is regarding technology advancement, but...that's a whole other kettle of fish :3 Point is, creativity from the fanbase + random three second screen time = animation project, once again.

 

Okay, I need to admit, he is cute.

What are your thoughts on the project thus far, and your opinion of JanAnimations' other works as well? Are they superior to other animations the fanbase has produced thus far? Or are they simply on par, or even worse than others'? Isn't Button Mash simply adorable? Doesn't he have the voice of an angel?

I watched the whole video yesterday. Jan Animations is the best fan animator in the entire fandom in my opinion! I can't wait for more. It's hilarious!

What do I think?

 

I think it's one of the animations that prove that we have many talented people in the fandom. It actually made me laugh more than many jokes in the actual show. Maybe because I can identify with Button Mash that well. He reminds me of myself. A bit clumsy, a bit "rash" and into gaming.

 

I also like the other works of JanAnimations, I think they are maybe the best fandom animations. And I can't await the next part of this series here. One of the few things I'm looking forward to now, besides season four, of course.

So... This was refreshing. It was very much show-style animation with some pretty hilarious scenes. Button as a character is an interesting and dare I say unique pony. I wonder if he's related to Gizmo in some way.

 

The animation itself had its funny moments and its kinda boring/stretched moments. I especially loved the voice in: "It's Sunday go back to bed!" On the other hand, the whole "Father's old video game machine" thing took a while to get the punchline, which was a little lacking if you ask me.

 

On the whole I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to more.

 

(Anyone else wonder how he tore the sticker off the juice box with a hoof?)

I saw this the day after it went live on YouTube.  I enjoyed it thoroughly (even watching it about 5 times in two or three days).  One of my favorite parts had to be the instantaneous combustion of the toy train (Button's reaction was priceless!).  

 

I know that in another one of Jan's videos where he addresses his fan base he says that he's going to wait until he gets the reactions from the fandom to determine whether or not he's going to actually make a mini-series out of this.  Personally, I'm really hoping he does!  So for everyone who loved this animation, go and comment and make Jan and his team feel loved!

I really did enjoy watching the pilot episode, it was pretty funny, entertaining, and had some elements of nostalgia. The voice actors are pretty talented, and Jan really did hit a home run on the animation. We will definitely be seeing more episodes of Button, since I got to admit he is cute and funny.

OK, I kid, besides, JanAnimations really does deserve a thread of its own given the work they've done in the past. 

 

So, back to the topic at hand, first of all I absolutely loved the pilot of "Button's Adventures", and I hope that, given its warm reception, JanAnimations continues the series.  While it may seem like this is a given, JanAnimations actually mentioned in a video prior to the pilot's release that whether or not the series will continue depends on its reception.  That video can be found below:

BTW, is it just me, or is Jan's Italian accent AWESOME!!! 

 

To answer your other questions CD, yes Button Mash is absolutely adorable (and hilarious  ), and as for JanAnimations other work, yes, I do believe that its quality is superior to that of pretty much every other brony animator's vids out there.  Some have come close, and I think the only other group that might actually match his quality is Silly Filly Studios (both in original stories and animation), but Jan gets bonus points since he's the sole animator for his videos.

 

Just... let that sink in for a moment ya'll.  This guy is THE... SOLE... ANIMATOR for his vids!!!    Now step back and ask yourself what you've done with your life lately, then hang your head in shame.  -_-

 

OK, don't do that you silly fillies, I'm just messing with ya! 

 

The only downside to his solely animating his vids and their quality is that it takes him forever to release new stuff, but eh, given how awesome his work is, I'm willing to wait.  Quality before quantity, ya know.  Hope given the pilot's popularity that Jan decides to continue this promising series! 

 

Note: when I say that JanAnimations has the highest quality vids out there, I'm largely only comparing him to other brony animators who try to create animations like we'd see in the show.  I'm not really comparing his work to parodies such as the "Ponies the Anthology" series nor PMVs, just because the nature of such vids is quite different from his own.

This was by far the best mlp fan-animation I have ever seen. Looks so show-accurate. And it was also completely hilarious, and I found myself watching it over and over. Sadly there won't be any more for a long time, but I'm sure that long time will be worth it.

This is probably one of the best fan-animations out there, and I'm not saying that because I'm a gamer and this is about a semi-canon gamer pony.

 

Okay, maybe I am a bit. But honestly, this is a huge step up from some of the other fan animations I've seen, the humor is actually pretty good and doesn't rely on overused memes that only bronies would get nor does it make a pointless crossover, animation is pretty fluid, Button's mom is actually pretty hot (yeah...) and voice acting is good, but I find Button's voice to be a bit annoying at times. Overall, I liked it.

I realy believe that JanAnimation's animation is the closest to the real thing you can get, in some ways even better. It just has that feel of polish that sometimes isn't even present in FiM itself. Other animations like double rainboom are close, but don't quite feel accurate enough. I'm no annimation expert but I think it's down to either the frame rate or the way the characters 'wobble' when they move.

 

The only thing I don't like is the sound effect used when buttons mother shakes her head. It just seems out of place. But it's probably my favorite fan annimation that stays accurate to FiMs annimation style.

Judging by the pilot episode, I can tell that this new animation series' future is bright. It's so adorable. It's got to be one of my favorites.

I've been a really big fan of JanAnimations's works. There have been many excellent animations in this fandom, but Jan (and crew) have single-handedly been the best when it comes to polish. You can see how much the team pays attention to the detail and clean up as many glitches as possible. (The Picture Perfect Pony PMV is easily the best so far.)

 

As for JA's new piece, the animation continues to impress from a technical scale. It's smooth, organic, and very clean. The graphics from Button's house are beautiful and feel like it belongs in the canon.

 

However, just because the animation is impressive doesn't mean the animated piece is good. And sadly, the pilot is not good at all. Three reasons why.

1. A lot of the random humor either repeated too much or felt forced. Once is fine, but it's overkill if I see the humor over again, especially if it's random humor. Second, the sudden change of the language comes across as a desperate attempt for exotic comedy.
   
   (The Stache part, however, was quite funny.)
2. Button's voice feels out of character. He's supposed to be cute, funny, excited, passionate, protective, and dedicated. His voice flips that around and sends messages that he's supposed to sound screechy, annoying, and unlikeable.
3. His mother, an OC, was inconsistently characterized. She sounded like a sweet, gentle, fun caring mother who tended to feel frustrated at times when Button doesn't listen or communicate. But at the end, she turns sarcastic, sing-song, taunting, and controlling. Frustration is one thing, but comedic abuse (pulling the cord and talking Button down sarcastically and in the form of a taunting singsong) is anything but cool and funny. The fact she acted like this for the sake of humor was extremely out of place and out of character for her.
   
   Instead of inserting lame, out-of-character comedy, why not instead use the ending for Button and mother to settle down and have her offer a teachable moment for Button about gaming addictions. He can play games, but not to the point of obsession and addiction. Allow him to understand priorities through conversation and character development. That opportunity, unfortunately, was thrown away and left the ending with a very sour taste in my mouth.
