gaming Most Epic Bosses of Gaming

Now, allow me to explain - my little ponies. These are the bosses that make you WORK for it. Meaning; REAL, UNADULARATED, HARDCORE boss battles. I am talking about the guys who make you sit on the edge of your seat, palms sweating, controlling being jerked left and right as you struggle to dodge, bosses.

These are the most awesome and bossiest of all bosses!

bestandworstvideogamevillains_4.jpg

By Discord's goatee this guy was nuts! Astaroth from NeverDead made me sweat bullets. Two giant snake arms that cause you to explode on impact, spawns monsters to hound you, shoots laser and fire beams, is impervious to most attacks, and is bigger the half the screen!

THIS guy made me feel awesome when I finally killed him!

Red from Pokemon Heartgold. I'd spent so, so long training for this battle. I'd lost three times already. I was literally shaking! I was so proud when I won, I actually yelped a little.  I'm honest.

the nightmare from metroid fusion

boss_nightmare.gif

to me he was one of the most challenging bosses ever...

it was only 4 years after i beat him that i found out he has a pretty easy pattern :(

Lordy he was a pain in the butt. Really satsifying when you beat him though.

Reminds me of one of my favorite bosses in gaming history:

Oh lord when this hit the fan, I was like ZMOG! Talk about intense! And then that super mega death beam? DUDE

I really enjoyed the Liquid Ocelot battle at the end of MGS4 it was so epic because every moment built up to the final battle with him and you felt so awesome at the end. It also is really cinematic and offers some amazing dialogue.

I also really like the end fight of MGS3 aswell because it was so sad that you had to kill your mentor after all you guys had to go through together but it was your mission and you had to fulfill it.

The End was one of the most amazing boss fights ever, it's so well designed in that it forces you to do the exact opposite of what you usually have to do for boss fights. Take it slow, think about what you are doing, and observe your surroundings.

THIS BASTARD FROM METAL GEAR SOLID PORTABLE OPS WAS THE WORST.

Null/Gray Fox just sprints at you with a buck-off machete and it's just so hard to react quick enough.

Speaking of dialogue and cinematics. I don't think any series - for me - beats the writing and voice acting of the Soul Reaver/Blood Omen franchise. How Kain and Raziel speak to each other is masterful.

Darkrai from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness. This guy added around another 50 to 100 hours to my game. He will be remembered as one of the hardest bosses ever to me.post-15440-0-52466900-1376595856.jpg

Flandre Scarlet from Touhou 6. But Celtore, the audience cries, Flandre is just a little girl, that isn't hardcore in the slightest!... Just watch this battle. I gave this fight a try numerous times and I was sweating bullets. Keep in mind that one bullet means one kill...

Still havent won that fight, but I really want to.

For me that has to be:

zanza_boss-final.jpg

Zanza from Xenoblade Chronicles.

Actually, he's not necessarily that hard... if you trained for hours and hours and hours before you face him. But you simply can't wait that long after you played the whole story up to that point.

It's a four round fight, three different forms and you have to watch out for his special moves and timing is what counts in this fight. It's like a very tricky FF boss fight.

But the reason I chose him is that he's at the same time one of the few bosses I really wanted to see defeated. After playing the game for about 80+ hours, you simply want to see that guy defeated after everything he did.

No way. Nightmare was hard, but he doesn't even compare to Yakuza, the spider boss. It took me a couple of hours to beat Nightmare, but it took me a year of not playing until I beat Yakuza.

All arguments aside, Metroid Fusion had some really awesome bosses. My personal favorite is probably Nightmare.

but somehow i actually beat that one pretty quickly. within a day actually.

i did shit an entire brick wall when it didn't die, but instead became it's second form (head-spin-thingy)

There is only one answer to this question. Phalanx.

220165-shadow-of-the-colossus-phalanx-wa

If you've already played Shadow of the Colossus, you should know how utterly and unequivocally epic this boss fight is. If you haven't... well, news flash, Phalanx is the most epic boss fight ever.

It's the sheer scale of it. When Phalanx first rises from the sand upon reaching the desert, it flies around, hundreds of metres above your head. Phalanx is one hundred and seventy metres long (yes, seriously) and weighs 1,000 tons. I mean, fuck. Watching it fly around, a giant winged sand snake/dragon, puts you in awe.

Then when you fight it and it drops to the ground, you have to sprint alongside it on horseback and attempt to jump onto one of its wings, in synchrony with a drastic music change. This alone is intensely thrilling. And when you do make the jump, your horse falls back, leaving you alone and climbing the wing of this utterly huge Colossus.

And then you reach Phalanx's body. Cue the epic music (this plays when you climb atop its body)

Another picture to show you the scale:

tumblr_ljzgucNkpQ1qgvvtno1_500.jpg

Holy shit dude! You're on top of a giant dragon! Rushing down its stratospherically long and huge spine to dig your sword into its sigils is the most thrilling part of any boss fight, ever. And what's more awesome, after depleting Phalanx's first sigil, Phalanx does a barrel roll and you have to cling onto its back as it does it. That's so... god... damn... BADASS!

And when you do finally kill it, it collapses onto the ground with such a huge impact and sound wave that you get shivers. Once you do this boss fight, you will never, ever forget it.

Full boss fight:

For some reason Yakuza's second form wasn't that hard, because he wasn't able to do his stupid grab move, when he would pick you up and smash you into the ground, taking away two and a half whole energy bars.

I hated that guy. Nightmare is the reason that my Gameboy Advance almost broke, due to my throwing it in rage. I eventually beat him, but that was a test of how calm I could be in a boss fight after dying around seventy consecutive times.

The most epic boss for me was Doku in Ninja Gaiden:

post-17520-0-43893300-1376596829.jpg

I don't mean Ninja Gaiden: Black or Sigma, I mean the first one. Everything was insanely hard in that game, but fighting Doku with half of my health and no elixirs was just soul shattering. I that I may have cried around the fifth time fighting him.

I'm just gonna go out here and say any of the bosses from The Dishwasher series. Seriously fuck that.

And then GigaDeath from Ninja Gaiden II - i'll probably say Volf from the same game too. They where the bosses that ultimately gave me most trouble I can remember straight off the top of my head.

Hmmm

Techno Drone in the NES Ninja Turtles game.. I always got to that thing and never past it without a game genie.

Or maybe even the final boss of Star Trek 25th anniversary.

I forget the guys name but he had a complete copy of the Enterprise as his ship, but it fired dual Photon and Plasma torpedos that devastated your shields in one hit!

Ninja Gaiden, man. If there were to be a harder game than Ninja Gaiden, that game would be unbeatable. Even Ninja Gaiden Black, with easy mode was extremely hard to beat. It was worth it though, as the boss fights are some of the coolest. And that ending, also.

Another game that has awesome bosses is TLOZ: Twilight Princess. My favorite boss from that game is none other than Stallord, the "Resurrected Ancient Dragon" as Zeldapedia puts it. Not only is the idea of fighting an enormous skeletal dragon awesome, but the way you fight him with the spinner is so much fun. The spinner is already a very enjoyable item to use, but to use it in a boss battle is ten times better. I was actually disappointed when I beat him, because I wanted to do it again.

The final boss battle in Serious Sam 3: BFE is pretty damn epic.

I'm not entirely sure what it was, but I remember this being one of the most intense moments of my gaming experience.

You should consider putting Spoilerish images inside Spoilers so that no one gets the game(s) spoiled for him/her. Now I can't play MGS3 or 4 anymore :(

4 has a LOT more to its ending than that fight.. VERY many more story elements well beyond it, including a surprise :)

As for 3.. from the start of the game you knew that was coming, not really a spoiler unless you've literally never played the first level.
