Probably the most highest in my head at the moment would be Cackletta's final battle from Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga, Techno Drone from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES.), the Darkrai battle from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness/Time, Palkia from the same title, the battle against Gary when he is the champion in Pokemon Fire Red, Mecha birdo from Super Mario Advance, Glitch from Garfield Caught In The Act, Crystal King from Paper Mario, Mr.Dark from Rayman, and uh....All that comes to mind at the moment. .-. Some I guess are kinda lame, but as a kid, they were awesome, y'know.  There are of course more, but none come to mind...

Puppet Ganon from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is probably one of my favorite bosses of all time. He's very unique, and his battle theme is awesome as well~

Other than that, I also really like Biolizard (1st and 2nd form, but mostly the 2nd), the last boss of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. I absolutely loved that final fight, as well as the game's ending.

And Bomberman Hero's Nitros is pretty damn cool as well. You fight him several times throughout the game since he's like your rival. I remember him being very tricky as well...

That's all I can remember right now... I'm not sure if they qualify as "epic", but I fought them when I was way younger, so they're sorta special to me. :P

Smough and Orienstein from Dark Souls took me forever. The fight isn't super fast paced, but because if you mess up you basically lose and have to run a long way back it had me pretty tensed up. :P

Allow me to share my favorite boss/ending battle. In Earth Defense Force 2017 on the 360, the finally battle is in this masive city. There is a HUGE mother ship in the sky, gigantic bugs and mechs everywhere, and you and your team-mates(AI) killing everything. Buildings are exploding and collapsing and your partners are being slaughtered.

Over the radio you hear 2 voicesl the General and the news Reporter Woman. After about midway through the fight, Woman is saying

"EARTH IS DOOMED! THE EDF HAVE BEEN KILLED!"

then you hear

"Wait...there is still a single soldier on the battle field! He is attacking the mother ship!"

And that's when you suddenly realize YOU are the LAST HOPE for the entire world. The General gives this awesome speech, the Woman keeps urging you to fight.

I was like "DIE YOU BUGS DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Seriously, I was screaming as I killed the last monster mechs. I was SO PUMPED

I was seriously like this throughout that last hour of the game

Now, allow me to explain - my little ponies. These are the bosses that make you WORK for it. Meaning; REAL, UNADULARATED, HARDCORE boss battles. I am talking about the guys who make you sit on the edge of your seat, palms sweating, controlling being jerked left and right as you struggle to dodge, bosses.

These are the most awesome and bossiest of all bosses!

img-1752337-1-bestandworstvideogamevilla

By Discord's goatee this guy was nuts! Astaroth from NeverDead made me sweat bullets. Two giant snake arms that cause you to explode on impact, spawns monsters to hound you, shoots laser and fire beams, is impervious to most attacks, and is bigger the half the screen!

THIS guy made me feel awesome when I finally killed him!

I remember fighting this guy. He actually wasn't that hard to beat since you...couldn't die. I even got all the trophies for the game. The multiplayer of it sucked.

Anyway, I feel like the most epic bosses in the games I've played are the final bosses of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Rising because of the epicness and badassness of them both.

I "died" about 4 times with him. Those stupid head-roller thingies that kept swallowing me would always grab me at the worst possible moments >.<

Some awesome bosses have already been mentioned... but there's one i would like to add.

Metroid Prime (Dark Samus in MP2/3)

dark_samus_returns_by_rundash-d4w581v.jp

The boss you eliminate in its prime form, later continuously trying to recover while causing havoc around the universe.

Even though he made several appearances throughout all 3 games, it never felt rushed or repetitive to fight him in his recurring encounters. (The music is awesome too...)

I don't know why but I found a giant black dragon with red eyes as the game's primary boss being pretty epic.

Also, had they made the fight animations seem less scripted the final boss fight would have been just as epic.

It took me four tries to beat those guys on my no level run. Lost most of my humanity. I personally find the Four Kings harder.

Anyway, most epic boss fight for me is Nyx from Persona 3.tumblr_m9flm0EUhO1qmmdvso1_500.png

The scripted fight afterwards is ridiculously epic. I had an epicgasm.

I don't generally equate being epic with being difficult but I suppose epicness is pretty subjective in some cases.

In the context of this topic, as in "epic because it's difficult" I would say that there are very few bosses that are actually epic because of it. I suppose in a sense this boss from Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow could qualify though:

The fight isn't very difficult after years of playing it but for a 10 year old me with this being the first Castlevania I've played since the first on NES this was a pretty difficult fight.

The End (Metal Gear Solid 3): Yes you can cheat and set forward the system clock to have him die of old age but if you fight this guy fair and square than be prepared for a long, hard grueling battle that will probably leave you exhausted afterwards. He uses hit and run tactics so you have to try to stay on him and watch your back constantly.

Cid Raines (Final Fantasy XIII): Sweet merciful fuck is this guy a monster, not only does he hit you where it hurts and is quick but he also is able to heal himself for an insane amount which makes it nearly impossible to be able to outlast him as he whittles you away. I still haven't figured out how to beat this guy yet.

Lord Ghirahim (Zelda Skyward Sword): Even the first fight with him was tough, but when he really gets serious in the other fights is when you really need to bring your A game.

I had to look Cid Raines up. I barely remember this guy. I think FFXII is due for a replay but I need to get a new disc cuz the one I have freezes in bad places. >_<

The final boss of Jak 3. That was pretty shweet.

Baladium and Joker (bosses 4 and 5) from Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. I would literally fight Baladium over and over as a 5 year old kid just to see and dodge his moves, and hear dat music. Joker was just legitimately hard. He also scared me.

N. Gin, Crash 2. I loved that fight because you got to shoot wumpas.

Thardus and Metroid Prime, Prime 1.

Quadraxis, Prime 2.

Ganondorf, Wind Waker.

Andross, Star Fox Adventures. Seriously, that shit was so hard for me when I did it. I was shaking the entire time trying not to get blasted.

Any frontier brain, but especially the cock who runs the battle pyramid, Pokemon Emerald. That fight literally lasted me an hour, and I gimped it so hard due to clever use of Milotic passive, Flygon levitate, and copious revives.

Last boss of Mass Effect 2, insanity difficulty. Another nail biter, as it were, and I made the final push by whipping out my semi-automatic sniper rifle (I rolled Vanguard) and simply unloading an entire clip all while screaming "DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!" with each shot punctuated by my shouts.

Space Mama and Viking Space Mama, Rayman. Fuck this bitch. Effective health of like, 17 hits because of that goddamn washing machine.

Rez, Gex 1.

The Lich King, first 10 man kill, World of Warcraft. I yelled so loudly, I woke up the entire house.

Can I be stereotypical and say Giygas?

giygas_by_davidsonvroom-d2t2p9f.jpg

He's the embodiment of evil himself. If Discord is the embodiment of chaos himself, then they must be brothers of embodiment. :3

EDIT:

Not everyday that you find ponified versions of bosses.

The Great Mighty Poo from Conker's Bad Fur Day

What's not epic about a giant poo monster who sings opera for a video game boss?

Phalanx from Shadow of the Colossus

This boss is amazing, and the sheer scale of it is breathtaking.

That boss is highly disturbing to me. The picture it makes in the original game photo is so creepy. But luckily, that one doesn't show the hidden image. And that pony version of it is cute.

For a SpongeBob game, Battle for Bikini Bottom's final boss fight against Robot Plankton inside Robot SpongeBob's head is pretty epic. Listen to the music of the stage and you may see why.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJzo0lWyq5c[/youtube]

The game's underrated, I say.

Also, the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie's final boss music was great also.
