Why do you like MLP?

-The animation is smooth and visually appealing, something lacking from a lot of cartoons

-It's wacky, but not to the point of overkill, and the sound designers seem to have a knack for knowing how to employ sound fx

-It doesn't rely on bathroom humor for much of its jokes, which is rare even among adult comedies

-Interesting, relatable female characters, but at the same time treats its few male characters with respect

-Slower paced, but still keeps its extraneous scenes to a minimum, meaning a more developed and satisfying story. (I can't get into Wander over Yonder for this reason. It moves way too fast)

I think it's a mixture of all those aspects for me. I especially love the songs. But another thing I love is how you see the characters develop, and how they have flaws and unique personalities and aren't just clones.

I can only handle cartoons that use the old style silly, random slap-stick humor. That, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Anything else is just blah. Like Spongebob. I haven't watched Spongebob in ages. Or the new looney toons: The Looney Tunes Show. I'm a sucker for anything classic. I get sucked right into it. Shows with good voice actors, admirable animation, and a well thought out plot line (even if the show presents an anthologist episode schedule-the episodes should be well thought out) I'm immediately pulled in and tied up. And honestly, what other show gives you a rainbow colored, mushroom cloud? Or for that matter, the rainbow pony that produced said mushroom cloud, also breaking the sound barrier? And how many shows since Looney Tunes have effectively used the good ol' doorplant or screw ball jokes and for the joke to be got bustingly hilarious?

Basically, I like the show because it makes me laugh, and I'm naturally drawn to things that make me laugh. As of now, it's also for character development, and that I'm in too deep to back out, now. :P

Everyone else seems to like it for these complex reasons (all that make it a legitimately good show) but I like it because its cute. And when I was little all the cartoons that I watched were pretty unisex (which i think is part of the reason I suck at being feminine) and this show is (please don't hate me) obviously marketed for girls. Not saying both genders can't like it but it is obviously geared towards females.

i like it for the excellent writing, great characters, with great comedy, great story, and the fact that it takes at the time a dying franchise and makes it good. It's one of the rare instances where the reboot is better than the orginal

The show by itself is pretty decent. Among one of the other shows I watch like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, etc. The fan base (as annoying as it can be at times) is really what got me suckered into the the franchise.

MLP seems to be one of the most rabid fan bases to come up recently just short of The Legend of Korra.

mostly the just the influence of the internet, i'm sure most of us would never even know the show had even existed without it. Its also not that unusual for adults to like cartoons,

I like it because it portrays a much happier world than this one. Warfare has been splattered all over our history. Hatred, and a lack of harmony. The show in a way is a vacation from disharmony. A world where it's sapient inhabitants live much more peacefully together, and a world where hatred almost cannot exist. (Discord, and various villains are exceptions, which the exceptions really prove my point even more. They prove the whole thing is about happiness and friendship.)

Ehh. I can give a few reasons.
What originally drew me to the show was fanart, honestly. There was a lot of great artwork surrounding the show and pretty much endeared me it a bit before ever watching it.

When I actually watched the show... I liked the colorful characters (and artwork still), the comparatively happy world, and the like, maturity in the characters actions. Yes, they were sappy, but they were honest and upfront about things, instead of being suspicious/petty/whatever else is often common to see.

So in addition to being pretty and entertaining, it had some traces of cathartic elements in it.

The fandom has kinda made it more enjoyable, since characters all have kind-of fandom spinoffs and character expansions.

Plus some characters noted in the fandom, aka derpy, seem to have become canon, which is awesome on behalf of the creators and rarely seen elsewhere.

Plus(x2) they've been introducing more and more music, which is simply lovely.

So... yeah.

They've simply seemed to handle the show extremely well.

The art, world, and characters are just great to watch interacting.

Why am I a fan?

I was raised to love MLP!

...No, really! I was born in 83, and Generation 1 was a huge thing for more. Heck Cartoons in general (later anime) was like candy for the eyes. I have always beat my drum a bit differnt. My GI Joes mounted Ponies into battles and I was never a huge TMNT kid. Along with shows like Rainbow Bright, Care Bears, and the slue of Disney shows (Tailspin,Goof Troop, Duck Tails, Gargoyles, etc) I was a huge fan of more light hearted animation. But MLP always stuck out for more. I think my love for the toys in general bloomed into a flower for the show and movies. I was a fever baby, i spent alot of time in cold baths and during which I constantly played with my Sea Ponie toys, because they where made for the tube (water squirting action and personal intertubes!!!!)

Being a child of the 90s, Cartoons and Nintendo where your life. Every day you would RUN from the bus stop when you got out of school, just to make it thru the door to watch the afternoon Cartoons. Sure as I aged, my tastes did change a bit. I began to enjoy shows like Beast Wars, Batman the animated Series and Gargoyles. Perhaps it was the depth and gritty nature of these shows, plust the hidden commentary to fem/fem relationships found in all 3 . Anime soon found its place in my world, and i leaned heavily towards Magic Girl Genre. Sailor Moon to this day is still my Fav series, followed by Tenchi Muyo.

Now if your still reading this your probly asking, bro, why the Bio? Well I thought it best to put to grace a life of fantasy and imagination. I am a 30 year old Brony, and to this day I spend hours of my week writting, painting, and gaming (pokemon!...awwww yeah boi!) in a fantasy type enjoyment. I have always enjoyed the elements of fun and depth in cartoons. Sadly I do not fill the stereotype of a man who would enjoy such things as candy colored ponies that talk, but meh. Life is ment to find truth. And the truth I found is that I just enjoy fantasy and imagination.

MLP started for me at age 3, and has been with me my entire life. I have a office filled with Toys and Merch from G1,2,3, 3.5, 4 and EQgirls. I am proud to wear my Baby Scootaloo shirt, and show off my Rarity Tattoos.

Too each there own.

I could have sworn I answered this one for me it is the fact that it unlike most shows these days actually makes an effort to be a good show. The characters are well written, relatable and interesting. The episodes are entertaining and have good lessons while not being too preachy at least for the most part. There are plenty of moments that are cute but without being so sickeningly saccharine that you want to yack the occasional exception here and there.

I like the writing with all the clever jokes, I think the animation is good, and I like the voice acting overall, but the big reason I like it is because I think it's a good stress release. I can watch an episode and feel good about myself, which is a feeling I don't normally have with other cartoons and animations.

I like it because it's better than most crap on TV or the internet. Plus it has an awesome fanbase! And it doesn't make you feel like your watching a kids show. The voices flow with the animation and they don't stop and stare at the audience waiting for the little kids to answer a freakin' question. :P

I love how the show makes me laugh, especially whenever a character does a wild take or has some kind of goofy moment. :)

Also its nice to get a break from war, religion, politics, crime and all of the other serious things that go on in real life. -_- I like that Equestria (while not a utopia, given its deep class divisions) is a pretty nice place to live in, without anything really serious to fret about. (With the Mane 6 on the job, why worry? ^_^ ) And you never know when a town or city is going to unexpectedly break into song!

The cast interacts well with one another, it's intelligently written, well-voiced, well-composed, and has some of the nicest animation (Flash, even.. go fig) on TV today.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

Me personally? It's the passion you can feel from the creators.

That sounds very vague but allow me to elaborate. As one who wants to be a writer himself and an appreciator of fiction in general, I believe that you get as much as you give in a given piece. If you take what your are creating seriously, if you believe in it, if it something you put your heart into, it will always have true intellectual value no matter what it's commercial or critical record.

When Lauren was asked to do this, she didn't just phone in a script, she took the imagination of her childhood and brought it to life. DHX didn't just mark up a sugar bowl of talking ponies, they created a believably living world. Hell, as much crap as we give Hasbro (and rightfully so at times) even asking Lauren and her team to do this shows a desire for improvement on their product and a recognition that they lacked the vision to truly do it justice.

We, as a fandom are a product of this. We recognized the effort and enthusiasm that was put into this. So much that returned it. The Beatles put it best . . . .

Escapism. Watching a show originally intended for children (little girls, on top of that) is a welcome distraction from obligations in my everyday life.

Other than that, I just think MLP:FIM is a really good show. It is a perfect combination of a quirky and fun animation style, good jokes and vibrant characters. Oh the characters!

I love this show!  :muffins:

@, I think it's interesting you should mention the class devision in Equestria. This is also something that really caught my attention when first watching MLP. Then again we must remember that this is a fantasy setting.
