gaming Will I still be a real gamer even if I also play Facebook Games?

I got a question,

I've been playing Video games since 4 years old.

I played a lot of Playstation and Xbox Games.

Now when I try Facebook games since 2009. I like it. :)

But now I am worried. I still play REAL console games but I stopped myself to play FB games because gamers said "Facebook games does not make you a gamer" OR "Facebook games suck! Real gamers don't play them"

I mean.... geez I wanted to play too but I feel that it will stop me from being a real gamer.

But I miss my progress on my FB games. Will I still be a real gamer even if I play FB games? I wanted to play them again :(

At what point does playing a game stop you from being a gamer? Just a bit of food for thought. There is no definition to what makes a "real" gamer. It changes from person to person. It doesn't matter how many games you play, how many consoles you play, how long you play or what genres you play. If you're playing, you are a gamer.

If you want to play FB games, go right ahead, but it shouldn't matter what games you play honestly. If you don't act like those annoying, "MASTER RACE", "CONSOLE WARS!", gamers...you're fine in my book.

Play what you want and don't care what others think...that's all I will say.

Even if it were true that a person who plays FaceBook games wouldn't qualify as a gamer (which it isn't, since the definition of a gamer is "a person who plays games") the fact that you play games outside of Facebook qualifies you anyway. So ignore those people.

They're still games...  How does it change that fact simply because they are on facebook?  Just enjoy your facebook games, don't bother with those people that say facebook games aren't games.

You like to play games, thus you are a gamer. That's how it works. Whoever came up with that term "real gamer" is an idiot. I don't believe there is such a thing as a real gamer. I only believe that there are gamers, and you are a gamer. Play want you want. If you like playing FB games, then by all means play them. :)

If you like to play games, then play whatever game you want. It's basically like saying that if a game sucks, then it doesn't qualify as a game. And that's just stupid as hell to say, games are games, some better than others but it doesn't mean that a game isn't a game if it sucks.

Another thing you should know is that you shouldn't care about what other people say, if facebook games are your type of games then play it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Made me chuckle a bit I have to admit.

Love or hate social and casual games, they are games, if you enjoy them, play them, that is what they are for. It doesn't make you any better or lesser person or gamer, really.

What is a real game and real gamer anyway? It's all about what you like. Strictly personal. I could say classic RPGs are the real games and playing FPS makes you a kid, but that would be just nonsense, we have so many genres so everyone can find what they like.

Even deeper than that, at what levels does a game qualify as sucking changes from person to person as well. For me, the only way for a game to REALLY suck is if it is totally and utterly broken to the point of being literally unbeatable. If you can beat it, it doesn't totally suck and there's still the matter of story that could totally make up for broken gameplay. :P

I will honestly admit that I believe my mind cannot comprehend this thread :P I mean, A: Why is it even important ._.?, B: Since when do opinions of others mean anything in topics like these? You're not describing your persona according to what others say, right? I mean, nobody can tell you WHO you are...

And a little thing here, I just can't resist adding: "First World Problems" o.o xD

To be honest, i don't think gamer should be a word.

I play a buckload of games, and i don't like the word.

you should not have a word for a hobby most kids have.

In my opinion, go for it noone can blame you.

It would be like calling me an emo, becouse i like the genre. (another exsample on how it stopps making sense)

Short verson: do it, noone can blame you. (and i am not emo)

These guys say it better than I ever could.

But I do have to say that you don't suddenly stop being a "real" gamer just because you also play Facebook games. I imagine you still play Battlefield, Minecraft or CoD right (not saying those are the only ones just using them as examples)? Then you are, by definition, a gamer.

This whole "causal" vs "hardcore" crap is just nonsense.

Games are games. If their a high budget well known title like StarWars BattleFront or a less known indie title available on your smartphone, games are games. There is no real definition of "true gamer" because everyone plays something different so how can we come onto a consensus if we all play different stuff on different platforms? Ignore the people that tell you that playing FaceBook games doesn't make you a "true gamer". If you enjoy them then why bother listening to their complaints? Just have fun with your game man.

A gamer, no matter what console, is still a gamer. If it's still a game, then you can be a gamer.

There is no exact definition of a gamer, but I can tell you that you're still a gamer if you play facebook games.

Why? A facebook game is still a game.

I don't know who are those people who say such ridiculous things, but ignore them. Play facebook games if that's what You like. Even playing those games alone will still make You a gamer. There is no thing like "true gamer", You can even play The Sims only and You are still gamer :P It's like calling someone who likes Equestria Girls "false brony" while the one who hates it "true brony". Play games You like, not the ones that are supposed to make You "true gamer".

I don't think it matters what you play but how much you play. Personally I wouldn't consider someone who plays games like Farmville (i don't even like saying that word) and crap like that a gamer though.

This is my gaming chain of command

1. Pc

2. Xbox, Playstation

3. Wii

3. Handheld

4. Touch screen games (iPad / Android based games.)

4. Online (Flash / Social Networking game)

Being a gamer is not about what you play. It's about having passion for the medium I believe and following what's going on in the world of video games. If you have that and you consider yourself a gamer I don't think you are not entitled to call yourself one. I consider myself a gamer and I play Facebook games and flash games sometimes.

Al thought my point of view is wrong, no matter what you play your are a gamer.

In my head your only a gamer if you play 5+ hours a day of games (at least).

I also feel that to be a true gamer you play that much on a multi player games with the view of becoming as good as you possibly can.

Like I said this is wrong, but people used to boast about playing 3 hours a day on games in school and I hated it as I played 7+hours a day at least for 3 years on WoW/CSS (in school time).

Play what you want to play. Does holding the title of 'gamer' in the eyes of complete strangers really compel you to push away from what you enjoy? Life is too short to worry about such trifle! Don't be discouraged by this arrogant elitism, enjoy what you like without regret.

(I used a similar string of logic when I became a brony, interestingly enough)

The term "hardcore gamer" is asinine in a way. It's just a way for snobby gamers to look down on more casual players and feel superior/

So, in short: no. It's makes no less a gamer than enjoying stupid popcorn movies would make stupid.

I once played AC: Brothehood for 19 hours straight(and I started at 5:00 AM for a bonus) what does that make me in all this then? A demi-god among gamers XD.

And what's the definition of a "true gamer"?

Obviously, it's spending most of your time playing video games. You may play racing games, Skyrim or Pokemon, it will always remain the same. And there is nothing wrong at playing facebook.

Unless you become addicted and start spending money on farmville, then you're just addicted and need help.
