Daily Commute

Most of us have daily commutes. Either to work, or school. What is your daily commute like, and how long is it typically?

 

My job is an hour away by car from where I live on a good day, and about an hour and a half going home due to rush hour traffic.

In the morning I travel 20-30 minutes by car and then take a 10-15 minute tram ride to school. It's not that bad. When I'm going home it's much worse since I can't go with my parents. I take a 10-15 train ride, then a 30-40 minute bus (traffic is also a lot worse when I'm heading home) then walk the rest of the way for about ten minutes home. All, in all it's not that bad. Especially because usually I can go with a friend and if not I'll always have audio books and music to listen to.

Depends, when it comes to work I drive for an hour to work and sometimes longer. School on the other hand is 15 minutes by car but I take the bus on some days, which does take a lot longer then a car. I drive a lot when I come home too, just for fun.

I have to walk roughly a mile to catch the metrorail into DC and then I have to walk a couple more blocks to reach the campus. The whole trip takes about an hour.  The return trip is pretty much the same except not as cold.

For school, I either drive or take the bus, usually driving is faster despite all the traffic.

 

For work, I HAVE to drive, because none of the bus routes go towards the location of my job.

Well, before I moved, I only had to take one bus to get to work (about 45 minutes back and forth). Now since I moved, I have to take two buses and a train to get to work (about an hour and a half), and coming back I have to take two buses (about another hour if the buses are in time, which they are not).

 

Sometimes if the buses that take me to my train are late, I have to take another bus that goes the back way, so that adds about another hour and a half. :/

Well, there was a point last year in which I was doing upwards of fifty miles daily, which at 16 mpg is a killer. Fortunately, all I gotta drive now is twenty minutes or so to the university (~20 miles round trip) half of which is on the interstate going 70, the other half on back streets at a leisurely 25.

You lucky man. I used to work legit 5 minutes away from home (2 minutes in car). Now im doing 90 miles a day witht he new job! Almost 500 miles a week. I change my car's oil like once a month.

I have to change my oil based on time, i bought my truck almost 4 years ago with 52k miles on it, it only has 61k right now yeah i dont drive much

I walk 3.5 miles to and from my college each and every day so thats like 7 miles in total. I literally never do any other exercise other than going out and walking around Manchester etc.

 

It's not so bad though, I jog a little bit of the way home so I can get in earlier! (:

It varies for me. It's either a bus and a short walk, a car journey and an even shorter walk, or just one big ol' walk. The latter only occurs when I'm trying to save my weekly lunch-and-bus-fare allowance.

Straight from my house to my office is a 45 minute drive, but normally I carpool with my dad, who works in the town adjacent to the tiny port village where I work. This adds an extra 15 minutes for a roughly hour-long commute, and it takes about the same amount of time going home. I'm considering putting in an app with the company my sister works for, which is only 15 minutes away from home. If I got that job, I'd save a ton on gas, not to mention I'd probably get a more respectable pay rate than I'm getting now.

 

When I'm going to school, the campus in the next town over is about 20-30 minutes away, depending on traffic. If I'm lucky enough to land some classes at our in-town campus, it's no more than 5 minutes away.

I normally take 15 minutes to walk to school which is pretty good time and if I want to take the bus to vary the journey, it takes around 3 minutes to wait for the bus, 1 to get to my stop and 12 to walk the rest of the way. Though on a bad day it can take up to 25 mins by bus.

I just take the city bus which is always crowded every morning, then I just have to walk when the bus drops me off to the school.

For school, I drive there. Takes about ten minutes there and back. Other than school, there are those times where I go grocery shopping. Driving to the nearest store takes less time than driving to school. I'd say about five minutes at most.

My typical daily commute involves a 10 minute bus ride leaving my house and then 15 minutes on a subway line.  I work in downtown Philly which is one of the largest central business districts in the country. 

 

Granted the subway isn't a "real" train but things could be worse.  I could be stuck in a city like Columbus or Indianapolis which don't have any form of rail transit.

It takes 20 minutes to go to my school.

In car, since there is an enormous amount of cars in the road, it takes around 5-10 minutes.

 

And that's great, I live quite close to my school.

It's about a 14 minute drive to get to college each day, it's usually a pretty rough drive though. People haven't a bloody clue how to use a roundabout and getting on the necessary side-street usually involves some pretty aggressive manoeuvres (because other people are so very considerate.)

 

Of course, I also need to get back home. Usually it's a bit easier, but it definitely feels a lot longer.

I take the city bus to get to school.  It takes three times as long for me to get to school(I wish I had a car).  My school is only 10 minutes away if I drove.  It takes me 30-40 minutes to get to school when I take the bus...

For work I leave my house around 50 minutes before my shift starts and take a 10-15 minute walk to the bus station where I will take a 5 minute bus ride that will drop me off right in front of work. For school I go to the library 2 hours before my classes start to do homework and work on this book I am trying to get published. I leave my house 1 hour before the scheduled time I go to the library and take that same walk I would take to the bus station to get to work but take a 20 minute ride on this train called the "Sprinter" instead.

Door to door, it takes about 45 minutes for me to get from home to work. I take the train followed by the underground (subway for you Murrikans ). I'd like to try driving eventually but seeing as I don't even have a license, that's not looking to be something for the near future

I am very fortunate to have my parents drive me to school. We actually live just 8 minutes away from my university of attendance, which makes living off campus really comfy and easy.

Well depending on the traffic, my commute to school is anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour. If there's like no traffic whatsoever, then maybe 25 minutes.
