somehow, someone decided to draw Rarity fighting said enemy crab and the rest is history.

It is totally strange, but it is pretty funny and awesome at the same time.

It's a joke that people made since they think that Rarity tends to be constantly annoyed, or "crabby". They decided to actually manifest that as her literally fighting off her "crabbiness" in the form of a physical crab. Pretty creative and comical, if you ask me.

 

First off, that is far too obtuse for bronies to catch onto. Secondly, that doesn't make any sense. If the joke is that Rarity is always crabby, shouldn't she be the crab?

 

What actually happened was that an artist took several commissions, and one was Rarity fighting a Pokemon, because people ask for things like that. For lulze3 reasons, the Pokemon selected was Crabby / Kingler, a giant enemy crab. This was considered highly amusing because crabs are cruise control for LMFO, so it took off.

I kinda like that meme. The concept is hilarious and often spans lots of cool artwork. And who knows, maybe a huge crab will show up in the program itself...
