Dreams: Third eye in the night.

Midnight Scribbler

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! Scribbler here. And today I'm bringing the mind bending state of sleep. Dreams.

I'd like to share them with you, and maybe you have some of your own which you enjoyed. Also, sometimes you might feel they have meaning, but can't place your hoof on what it is. I have a talent with interpreting the metaphorical world of dreams, and if you're interested, I can do that for you. (Through PM if you'd rather.)

But yeah. What are your thoughts on dreams? Did you have one that always stood out to you? I know I have a few.wink.png

The only notable dreams I recall have to do with bridges. I have a very odd, irrational fear of bridges, and I used to have terrible dreams pertaining to bridges. On a positive note, many of my other dreams help me to understand how to approach a situation in a positive way.

Dreams are pretty awesome things. My dreams usually involve some sort of manipulation of fire, which I find odd because I don't burn things or enjoy burning things for fun.

That's quite symbolic in terms of what fire can represent though. It's a destructive force in reality, but can be harnessed for the purposes of shaping material into useful items. You wield the raw force of creativity, it sounds like to me. :)

Bridges can be linked to many meanings, sometimes relationships, sometimes merely the connections or willingness to connect to an idea or aspect of one's self. I've fallen from a bridge before in a dream, it was pretty crazy, cause I fear heights.

I'll share one with you that I really cherish. It's the one that got me interested in dreams and what they can mean.

It started out in a thick, dark forest, where little patches of light shone through the trees. I walked along and came across a clearing in the forest. In the center of the clearing was a small hill, and a single, little tree grew atop the hill. It seemed important, but I couldn't tell why yet. I walked around it, and found a hole in the hill under it, which I climbed through, to see where it led me. I came out on the other side, in a place that could only be reached through this tunnel, like an alternate dimension. I came out on a stone balcony, overlooking a city that resembled ancient Rome.

In short, I lived an entire lifetime there. Fell in love, made friends and foes, and became well established in the society there. At the end, I climbed back to the balcony, and out through the tunnel I had come from originally. I got up from the hole under the little hill, where that tree in the beginning was. And I looked up to it. Then a ghostly white woman appeared, somewhat like an angel, but no wings. She told me something, which I can't remember, but it felt important, and I felt a sense of absolute adoration and bliss. She then disappeared into the tree. I went back to look into the tunnel again, but it had filled in, and a dead looking dog lay where it had been. The dog looked up at me, and I left it alone, so it laid it's head back down again. And that's about when I woke up.

I feel like this was my spiritual birth in a way. Sort of like my introduction to the dream world, which I live withing every night.

Funny you should mention the third eye in the thread title.

I find, without exception, that whenever I meditate for about fifteen minutes to half an hour before I actually fall asleep, I always remember far, far more of my dreams than I would have otherwise, and I also have a better dream experience. Really, try it out. Works wonderfully, at least for me.

I have actually, it's one of my practices I try to maintain once in a while. I've actually practiced lucid dreaming as well, I've done that a couple times, but I still have some trouble staying in control.

Also, here's a painting I did, based on the dream I mentioned above.

I don't think that my dreams- the one I remember anyways- have any importance. Not like what you described anyways.

Mine feel like general rubbish that the brain wants to throw out, a collection of random thoughts and ideas.

I wish that I could lucid dream. It sounds fun.

Sometimes dreams don't make any sense, but they have meaning in a very internal way you'll find. It's a matter of picking out the things that the dream pivots around at each moment, even if it seems random. Like I've had dreams where I've just been exploring around in a weird house and looking at things, nothing seemed out of the ordinary really. But even something like that will have meaning.

Lucid dreaming, honestly, just takes practice. How I started was, asking myself every time I felt like something was weird or out of place. "Is this a dream?" And if you do it enough, you get into the habbit of asking yourself that question. Once you've got that integrated into your thinking, you'll start doing it in your dreams as well, and when you do, you'll stop and become conscious of the dream. That's when you can do almost anything.

Could you tell me what it means if I never have nightmares or bad dreams? I only have weird dreams. For example, the dream I had last night; me and my old best friend from elementary school were in some random cafeteria. There were four screens set up there and people were sitting at tables. Apparently we came there to listen to music. I don't remember what song it was but it was some rock and roll song and everyone was singing and dancing. It may not sound weird to you, but I thought it was a little weird. I have dreams almost every night that I can remember, and they're always weird ones. They always cause me to oversleep, too.

I think the symbolism here lies in the setting, and the mood of the atmosphere it's self. Also who you were with could have some bearing on the meaning. It could have to do with some aspect of the relationship between you and your friends.

If something felt out of place or wasn't normal, there could be something out of place between you and your friends. Or, another way of looking at it could be this. The people in the room could in fact represent your thoughts, or aspects of yourself, and thus, you could feel these emotions in relation to these thoughts or self aspects. And your friends reactions could in fact be how you believe they see you in this light.

It's vague, I know, but that's about as clear as dreams get. Sometimes the meaning will reveal it's self to you later.

I tend to have a lot of extremely random dreams that have nothing to do with anything at all. I don't think they have any meaning, but they could, I guess.

I do have occasional dreams that I think could mean something though. I tend to always have these dreams where I'm falling off of a cliff and right before I hit the ground I wake up. They're kind of odd, really.

These are very common dreams actually. I had one just the other night where I jumped off a crane and fell. The adrenaline caused me to wake up, but I woke into another dream. I was pretty deep in there. :P

I think falling has something to do with how you view your current situation in life. I don't exactly remember what it means. I'll consult my books and get back to you on this one. :)

Most of my dreams are either one of two things:

1. Something completely small & weird. Like I'll have a dream of me checking a text from a friend that said hi. Yeah.

2. Fantasies/Predictions. It really creepy. For the first example, I had a dream once where Twilight accidentally used the Want it Need it spell on Rainbow Dash, but for some reason only affected pinkie pie. The other example would be this one time I dreamt Sonic would be in the new new super smash bros. And guess what? He just got announced a couple of weeks ago.

Ah, you have an interesting talent there. I've heard that sometimes you'll meet people in dreams before you even see them in real life.

I've had a couple like this, but never with people, more so with events. For instance, I've had dreams of tornadoes since I was little. And I mean like, hundreds of tornadoes all over the place, sweeping the landscape. A couple years back, the USA reported over 100 of them across the country in a single day. That was kind of scary for me.

Another crazy dream I had once was where I was on a floating island in the sky. I was standing outside, and watched as this horrible storm started brewing all around. I ran into a massive cathedral-like building, and found a large room with a big arch window. It was made of clear glass instead of stained, which was odd, but I remember the whole building began collapsing in. The window shattered into millions of fragments, and showered down toward me. Just before they reached me though, they stopped, and everything went silent. The shards instantly flew back up, reformed the window above my head, and flew away into the distance.

Probably one of the most bizarre and vivid ones in recent memory.

ohmy.png --- That painting.. Whenever people describe their experimentations with Astral Projection, (A more "real" form of Lucid Dreaming, where a copy of their soul goes out of their body to explore.) some of them describe coming into a special place called the Summerland, which is a spot-on description of your painting. I read about it first in Robert Bruce's "Astral Dynamics" book, and it's far from the only place it's mentioned.

Congrats on the find!

I'm going to have to look that up now. :P

The most interesting part about this dream is how much it related to Ancient Norse mythology, about the world tree, Yggdrasil. Climbing down the roots onto the plain of Midgard from the realm of Asgard. And the mother spirit, known to many cultures, by many names. Inaan (Ancient Sumerian), Nanabush (Native North America), and many more.

From a New-Agey perspective that links in with the "results" of Astral Projection very neatly, everything is symbolic to the point where something needs to be created to "tie in" perspectives on existence, and there's little more symbolic than a giant tree that all early, wise, earth-respecting cultures can revere for its symbolic nature. A little Symboliception there, I'm sure.

Oh. When you learn to Astral Project, hop under the right paw of the Sphinx. Something really neat there. biggrin.png

(edited)

Just had the strangest dream last night. I was at my parents house in it.

I remember sitting with my laptop in the living room. I had been having this weird thing happen where the doorbell would ring about 4 times, then stop, and no one would be at the door. My parents were there too, and were equally confused about it. (This would be strange, due to the fact they live in the country. Not exactly a place where you'd get someone playing nikky-nikky nine doors) There was one point when I was sitting with them watching something on TV and we heard it again, the doorbell ringing, then we'd check and no one would be there. My dad turned around, saying "Do you hear that? It sounds like pigs." I went to the cellar door and opened it, looking down. (It's not an actual basement really, they live in a 100 year old farm house) There wasn't anything down there, just the same old cobblestone walls, and concrete floor. Nothing out of place. My dad mentioned that the farm had been a swine operation before we lived there, which made the situation only more intensely frightening.

Later in the dream this happened again, this time I opened the cellar door first. Hearing the sound of pigs squealing loudly from the basement, I was frightened by it, mostly because there was nothing there, but the sound was still coming from the place at the bottom of the stairs. I stepped away from it, and my dog ran, barking, down the stairs after the sounds. I freaked out then, yelling for her to come back. Then the sounds stopped, and I climbed down, looking for my dog, but she had vanished completely. I yelled for her repeatedly, but no answer came, and she was nowhere to be seen.

I think I was calling out to my dog literally in my sleep too, cause I think I woke up doing it. :P It was truly disturbing though. It was like a haunting or like a dimensional rift in my house. I wasn't sure what to think of it.

I'm not going to explain the contents of most of my dreams because there either too "sexy" or too messed up.

But dreams are awesome. (It sound stupid but I feel more alive in my dreams.)

There was a time i found myself having dreams being warnings of the future. I just can't explain it but sometimes i felt that "vibe" that said "This Dream has a meaning! Something is going to happen relevant to it!". Like e.g. I dreamt that i was arrested for something i was thinking of doing but didn't do... Next day at the sea i wanted to be a jerk and pull a prank with my sister and i almost did it at a total stranger before i got that short "deja-vu/warning feeling" that made me check. Phew... also i used to have a lot of dreams with mermaids and flying without wings. Coincidentally or not mermaids and angels are two mythical creatures i absolutely adore! And i am a huge mythological geek. Rarely i have had sex dreams with various targets both appropriate and innapropriate but i won't get into that.

Anyways i don't take dreams very seriously but when i do remember them i keep an eye out for warning sings.

Only once have i ever had a nightmare that caused me to jump up and wake up of fear. It was a guy with a pistol as a face/nose and his mouth was at the trigger. He was in tux i think... don't remember. And he was smoking... kinda like a James Bond villain you could say? His barrel/nose extended and stuck to mind and then he shot me and i woke up. I seem to always have nightmares that make me end up dead... maybe cause i fear death. But in my latest one i knew i was dreaming and i was like "Nope! Fuck this! I am not seeing this dream!" woke up just to break the dream then went back to sleep again. HA! I feel like a boss now...

@,

I agree with dreams having meaning. I have always believed they did, but within recent years, I have learned how to interpret them and understand what they truly mean. They almost always have to do with some form of conflict or issue either between you and another, or simply just an internal thing that has only to do with you.

I've had nightmares you wouldn't believe. I've actually questioned my sanity after a couple of them to be honest. I've also had dreams that foretell events. Not too long ago, I had a dream that there was a massive storm raging outside. When it was over I went to my parent's house, finding that it had been nearly wiped out by the storm. No one was around though, I couldn't tell if they'd even been home, and was filled with that panic of uncertainty. When I woke up, it was 6AM, and my phone rings, and it's my mom calling to tell me that dad had a heart attack. (He did recover from it btw) That was the storm I was about to witness.

On that note, if you ever feel like you'd like a dream interpreted, I've been told by many people that I'm quite good at it. :) If there's any that trouble you, I can usually make sense of them.
