SweetieSpike or Sparity?

I am a fan of Sweetie-Spike, but I find that shipping with little drake can be a difficult thing. If I know anything about dragon biology (does anybody really?) then he will age at a much slower rate then either Sweetie or Rarity. By the time he is a what we would consider is a older teen then he would have outlived most of the ponies he would already have known.

First off, Sparity is for humor, and nothing else.

 

Second...I'm pretty sure SweetieSpike is a crack pairing also, but I think it could work...I mean, look at it like I would, me writing romance fanfics all the time:

Spike has a thing for Rarity, first and foremost; something could happen to greatly discourage him, though (Rarity finds her special somepony or something.) and he gets upset and depressed, naturally.

 

In comes Sweetie Belle, naive as ever. Spike could be crying over a picture of Rarity, and Sweetie Belle would walk up "...Why do you have a picture of my sister?"

 

Spike would get irritated; he wants to be alone, after all. "Go away! Geez, can't you see that I want to be alone?"

 

Sweetie Belle would stare blankly for a moment. 

 

"Oh! You're crying! What's wrong, Spike?"

 

Or something like that. Spike would get mad again.

 

"I said go away! Gahh. Can't you take a hint?!"

 

Sweetie would finally get hurt at this point. "Sorry...I was just trying to help..." (Again, not trying here.) Sweetie's adorableness would rub off on Spike and make him feel bad.

 

"Oh...w-well, I'm sorry...I didn't mean to..."

 

Sweetie would pick herself right back up; "It's ok. So, you wanna help me find my cutie mark?"

 

....

 

Yeahh, it's just been an idea that's been floating in my head for a while now. Spike would also probably begin using Sweetie Belle to piece together what was left of his own broken heart, but when she finds out and leaves, he'd realize that he was happier with her than he would be with Rarity.

I've never cared for the Sparity ship. It always seems forced and one-sided (which may have been the point). Just about anyone would work better than Rarity, not just Sweetie Belle.

 

Though if the writers do plan on seriously hooking Spike up w/ someone, I hope they don't do it until they're fully intent on ending the series. It's difficult to maintain an engaging courtship in a kids show. I like the idea of Spike slowly gravitating towards the CMCs as a friendship in the show's final seasons and then hooking up with one of them at the end.

Actually since twilight got spike when she was really young i would guess he is 2-4 years younger than rarity, but that is just my head cannon.

1. Sparity would seem superficial. Rarity is into "prince charming" types. I can't see her falling for a baby dragon. (Yes, he IS a baby dragon no matter how "mature" he acts.) I can only see is going in the direction he is entranced with her beauty but she doesn't like "Spikey-Wikey" like THAT. I personally feel like she just likes having someone who has a crush on her because it ups her ego. Also, I feel like she's like type to use him to get things, like jewels.

 

2. SweetieSpike it would take a lot of work but I COULD be done, perhaps. It would be cute, but I don't feel like it'd go anywhere, really.

She hasn't exactly discouraged it, sometimes even playing along and kind of enabling it. Heck, that actually seemed to intensify after he made his crush on her know.

 

But more importantly, the writers seem to be pushing it. There's tons of winks at the ship throughout the show, "Spike at your Service" was suppose to be a Rarity episode originally, there was a whole comic book arc about Spike trying to rescue Rarity ending with him professing his love for her (beyond the simple child-like crush), and then there's the Hot Topic video.

I think the most appealing thing about a Spike/Sweetie ship is that it's more likely to be two-way. Even if Rarity does reciprocate, it's too easy to imagine her taking advantage of him. Sweetie may be younger, but she's also more empathetic and level-headed than her sister.

I haven't really seen any hints beyond that one moment in secret of my excess which doesn't confirm nor deny that she returns his feelings. She treats him more like a little sibling than anything, what with the "my wittle spiky wikey" bits. The video you linked doesn't add any more hints, it just showed more spike's one-sided infatuation of her (being upset when Rarity said she loves Sweetie more than anything in the world) and Rarity saying, not in a romantic manner, but more of a manner of how an adult speaks to a little kid, that he has ravishing wings too when he asked what about him after she twilight, fluttershy, and rainbow dash's wings.

 

 

I've heard about the comic-book thing you mentioned, still tho, it's one-sided. And I really hope the writers aren't planning on making Sparity a reality because there's been nothing so far to make it a believable relationship, it's been written as a one-sided childish crush and to turn it into anything more than that without proper build up (and him having grown into a mature adult before it happens) would be a travesty of writing.

 

 

The thing is, you can't just write Spike as having a kiddie crush on her, than suddenly out of nowhere it becomes true love. It just doesn't work like that, there's gotta be build up, character progression between the two that makes the audience believe that they've truly fallen in love with eachother, and that has yet to happen.

 

Reminds me of a one-shot fanfic I read of aTwiluna ship that I disliked because it came off as having half the story missing, because the writer started the story with the two already in love, and failed to explain why they were in love to begin with, so there was no believability to their relationship, and because the story was based around their relationship, it fell flat in my eyes.

 

 

Strangely, it was a very popular story. But I digress.

I agree with the writer above.

 

I would like there to be a bit of build-up between Spike and Rarity's relationship if they ever decide to up it up (and we all know they won't). Hopefully they would do this by explaining just why Rarity likes Spike and vice versa.

 

Besides relationships seem to be something the writing staff seems to sway away from just because the fanbase gets really  irked by it. Unless it happens to be something between The Doctor and Derpy because everyone seems to like that pair for some reason. I don't really get it, but whatever. I support both Sparity and SweetieSpike.

Spike and Rarity for sure. I would argue that Spike is essentially halfway between the ages of Sweetie Belle and Rarity, so the age arguments could go either way. "Isn't he a baby dragon", you say? Yes, but that is his physical age. Dragons live a long time. Mentally, he is not much younger than Twilight Sparkle herself. Remember this scene, when he was first hatched and Twilight was still a little filly?



I'd then assume from this that Rarity is only slightly older than Twilight and Spike. With all that said, I don't see Sweetie Belle being much younger than Spike. And to add to that, I think Sweetie Belle's playful personality is much more fitting for Spike. Both pairings could definitely work!

 

I still like Sparity just a tad more though, as that's the current one supported by the show.

I'm just curious, would you have any issue if spike was a young girl of the same age and maturity level and rarity was a grown adult male pony? If you mean under 18 (compared to humans) then yeah, it might be if Rarity was over 18. We don't know if she is, though. We don't know how age works in Equestria, so it really isn't fair to say.

 

Anyway, possibly. I'd really have to see it, to have an opinion on it. I know I wouldn't be bothered by Spike having a crush on Rarity if he were a girl; its not unusual to see a young girl having a crush on an older guy. If Rarity as a guy started liking Spike back as a young girl, then I'd probably think that that was weird...I'd really have to see it to decide, though. It'd mostly depend on the way Rarity acts towards Spike.

Its hard to explain but, people consider an older guy to be liking a younger girl more creepy/wrong as opposed to the other way around. I guess its because most of the crimes towards kids/teens are commited by guys. I don't know really...

 

I know a lot of people don't like Sparity because of it looking like Pedophilia. Lauren Faust said that her headcanon of the age of the mane six to be mid-teens, which isn't that big of an age gap. She doesn't work on the show anymore, so its not canon. Most people think its late teens/early twenties based on the way they act. Maturity doesn't equal age though, so its hard to say. If Spike was considered to be above age 18, and Rarity in her late twenties/early thirties, people wouldn't consider it Pedophilia and it wouldn't be as odd. I know there are lots of real life human couples with an age gap of 10, or even 15 years.

 

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it may look like Pedophilia but it really isn't. Its highly unlikely that they'll ever get together on the show, and even if they did, Rarity liking Spike isn't automatically Pedophilia. Its much more complicated than that.

Up until recently i didn't know about Sweetie Belle+Spike... i don't think they would be good togother. Probably Spike is never gonna be shipped with someone... and you guys making a fuss about Pedophilia in Spike/Rarity is gonna make Hasbro have spike never be shipped with someone... It's crazy... it's all your fault actually, as is your fault that Derpy is called "Muffin Pony" or whatever by Hasbro. The only visible/allowed ship shall be BigMac Cherilee... I recall Lauren saying they were young adults, but then again she's not on the show anymore and it has yet to be confirmed nor denied in the show. I will point out tho that they seem like they could be adults, are the same size as adult ponies, and live on their own (except Applejack).

 

Also, you can't say it's okay for Spike and Rarity to be together if Spike is a boy and Rarity a woman and then turn around say it'd be weird if their genders were reversed. Boys are not anymore ready for a relationship with an adult than girls. So either both are equally okay or both are equally wrong.

I just don't like Sparity because I think Spike can do so much better. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash seem to see him as more of an equal than Rarity.

As much as I enjoyed the Sparity moments in Secret of my Excess and thought they were cute, that's as far as the writers are EVER gonna go with this shipping. At least in my eyes. The age difference is just too great and even though couples IRL have survived despite their age difference, it doesn't look too obvious since they're adults. But Spike CLEARLY looks alot younger than Rarity, plus the fact that he is a BABY dragon just rubs me the wrong way when I think of this shipping.

 

Regardless I did read a very feelsy amazingly written Sparity fic called On Pins and Needles that I think you guys should read. No clop or anything, literally just all feels. You won't regret it

 

Now with regards to SweetieSpike, I do believe it's a cute shipping, but I don't strongly ship them unless there is some actual interaction between them in the show, (besides the Canterlot Wedding picture) that proves that they may like each other. Sorry guys, but that ship isn't happening until the day Spike leaves his crush on Rarity in the dust. But still, I think this shipping is adorable and makes more sense then Sparity because they look about the same age

 

Now there is another potential shipping for Spike that I read a great fanfic about. In it, he was friend shipped with Apple Bloom but you can see where it goes as the story progresses. NO SPOILERS!! :okiedokielokie: If you're interested, look up Blooming Travels. It's a great read
