technology New Dell Computer.

So I do not know whether this is the right section or not for this thread, but I had a big problem with a new Dell computer I have.

My wife and I decided to buy a new computer because my old one was very slow, so we bought one of the new Dell computers. I do not know where we bought this computer, my wife got it, but when I got home I saw the box and was very excited.

We opened it up and it had one of the worst smells in the world, so we did what every other tech guy would do and we pried it open. To our surprise, there was a half eaten sandwich in there and all the electric parts in the thing were covered in mustard. The smell was horrific and I don't even know if the darn thing works.

The next thing is, we looked in the cd opener and found a plastic wrapper that once belonged to piece of cheese that has melted in the computer. I am not sure how much it matters but after examining, I think it is a Kraft Single.

I need to know where to go and what to do, I was brought here by a buddy of mine I met in High School who was always a good pal of mine. He has no idea what to do either but he does know that this is the place for techy answers.

Don't even try to boot the thing. Send it back (if you call dell and explain to them they should cover the RMA shipping), and if you REALLY want a dell just get them to replace it. If you want my honest opinion though, go with a better company (I recommend Sony if you don't have a price range or Acer and Asus if you do)

Hey, don't be callin' Asus budget. I mean...they make a lot of budget computers but the Asus Zenbook I am using now is rather premium.

Not to be bashin' ya but...yeh...I really like Asus. Of the three mobile computers I've owned, two have been Asus-es

Oh and...go to Dell HQ and throw that computer through the lobby window- like the age-old Discount Tire Company commercial.

well im not sure how much your looking to spend but if you have any experience building computers or know somebody who does, a barebones kit is usually a lot cheaper and you decide on what hardware is in it. That or you can try cyberpower pc, the prices are pretty fair on there and they build it for you. just be prepared for the shipping charges.

I concur for Cyberpower being relatively fair, but make sure to pick reliable parts (name brands, not "major name brand"). SOme of those custom machines have this odd habit of having PSUs that are literally made of suck.

Oh I ain't calling them budget, one of the best machines I've ever had the pleasure of using was an ASUS laptop (It was pretty top-end, but i don't remember the model off the top of my head), I was just saying that if you want quality for less than a premium machine (E.G. Sony, MSI, or another pricy brand) then Asus is the way to go.

What FractaLuna has suggested, call Dell Support or something and have them take it back. And then don't bother getting another, go with another brand completely. Or you could always purchase all the parts online and build one yourself (With someone such as me guiding you through the process of putting it together). The Build-your-own one's are cheap and 'premium'. You can get a pretty good build-your-own for around $180 with a 500GB Hard Drive and an Intel i7 Processor. Only thing with that is that you'd have to either buy the shell of a computer or use an old one you have, because it's just the innards of the computer, no frames or anything to hold it together. But if you'd rather get a whole computer, then I'd recommend buying one online from a trusted site (Such as here.)
If this is helpful, then your welcome ^-^

So I just contacted Dell's Customer Service about the problem and they told me that there is no possible way that a half eaten sandwich and a Kraft Single could be in my computer, they said that my wife most likely put it in. I know for a fact that my wife did not put it in because they box was perfectly sealed and untouched when it arrived at my house and I opened it. He then proceeded to tell me that he was going to call the cops if I did not stop my "silly" prank call. The fact that he did not even take me seriously on the phone when I had an extreme problem with a brand new computer that I bought makes me mad. I do not know what to do at this point, should I just run up and slap one of those people? Because that is what it feels like I should do, all they do is call me out on fake accusations of stealing a computer. While I do like the suggestion of getting techy with it and building my own computer, I need to get some type of compensation from Dell, or else they will see me in court. What do you guys think I should do now, because it seems as if I tried everything.

Online support. Contact Dell through their online support (such as an email) and send them a few pictures of the mess. If they don't believe that, then I think you should throw the computer at the CEO of Dell... But if you throw it at him, video tape it, I wanna see it, that'd be hilarious.

Just a question, where did you get the computer from? If it was from  a reseller, then you should be able to RMA it through them (most have a 1 year replacement policy). I personally always film myself opening any new piece of technology and take multiple pictures so that I can prove that something is amiss. Look up Dell's support chain and call the highest-up person you can find, and have the box next to you so you can roll off the proof-of-purchase and prove you own it.

With all honesty, I don't say I blame the customer service guy for being as dismissive as he was. I don't think I've ever heard of a story like this before. I've found tons of dust in my computer, but a sandwich? What a rotten situation you've found yourself in...

All food puns aside, I would recommend finding out how your wife bought this computer. If it was bought directly from Dell or a professional retailer... oh boy... lets just say the media would be your best friend for a while if that news got out. If it wasn't, the only person that could conceivably be to blame would be the middle man.

I don't know what you could do in this situation... All I can think of is calling the highest person you can find in Dell and explaining your situation. You're not going to get anywhere with the lackeys, they're just doing their job. It's the higher-ups that care about the company's public image and your future business, and one computer isn't going to put them out of business. You have a better chance there.

Somehow i blame maxmoefoe for them not believing you. You really need to call them back and get them to believe you. I mean, they can't just send a computer your way with a half eaten sandwich and a kraft single in it. if anything, you should be calling the cops on THEM. This is truly an outrage, If I were you i would most likely sue them.
