I agree with this entirely. Perhaps that's why Celestia wanted to work with him in Keep Calm and Flutter On. Maybe she wants to mature him.

No matter how cunning anyone's plans are, there is always a hitch. Discord underestimated the Tree of Harmony and the elements them self and had hoped that when he had broken free he solved that little nitch to his plan, but another one appeared which lead him to be reverted to stone. Also even though it was a thousand years late, his plan still nearly destroyed the Tree of Harmony and cost the Mane 6 their elements, so a plan he set up millennia ago nearly and probably forgot about, Cost the Mane 6 their elements, nearly destroyed the Tree of Harmony and could have killed Celestia and Luna had the ponies failed, that is hardly a plan any moron could come up with and it is far from a awful plan.

If you think about it, if we go by the flashbacks - he didn't know what the Elements were to begin with. Since he knew of their traits after being freed from stone, it only makes sense that he overheard or "witnessed" them being used afterwards with Luna and Celestia.

 

People saying "Well how did he know from being in the garden" - who says he was in the garden for the past 1000 years? He was probably in the castle for a long time to ensure he couldn't escape and once that was felt to be a reasonable amount of time to where he didn't escape, they put him in the garden.

It's funny how despite his 1000 year old plan was a great success, albeit a bit late, he's not shown any tendency to act against the M6. Once again, this goes to show that despite his mischief, he cares about his friendship with them, or at least with Fluttershy. I can see some people not liking this, but I'm all for it.

Discord's actions plays into his flaw, Discord enjoys trying to prove he can defeat them no matter what they throw at him, and he also enjoys teasing them which he would be unable to do if he just snapped his fingers and took away everything from them from the get go. They then would not  be a threat anymore and proving that he could beat them would be meaningless and would be more of a show of his power than intelligence. Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy could figure snapping his finger would allow him to win Discord doesn't do this because he as no tactical sense he doesn't do it because it would be fun for him to do and fun is all Discord cares about.Discord likes to mess with his victims, something he can not do if he out right defeats them in two seconds.

I feel that Discord is nice and Is a nice Villain...Well he's not really a villain now but, he's used nicely by Hasbro. However, I feel that I'm afraid Hasbro might over use him. I know he's quite the character but don't go overboard. We need new characters that connect with the new ones
