Discord point of interest.

Discord is vastly more powerful than Celestia and Luna but has the brain capacity of a toddler on crack. Simply put, lots of power but no brain or common sense

I disagree. He is very intelligent and manipulative. When he was freed from stone, the first thing he did when left alone was destroy all the books that contained the Stone Spell. He when made Fluttershy swear to never use her Element against him (which she will not break) and finally when he was confronted by Celestia and Luna, he planted those seeds.

It isn't that he is an idiot or even arrogant; he simply Doesn't Care. If he is defeated, he will return for unlike the other characters, Discord is a Spirit - meaning he is immortal period. He will always escape eventually thus he doesn't truly care what happens. But he is very smart and manipulative.

Trolling, no. I'm serious, I never said that Discord failed because he is stupid he failed because he was getting overconfident and his confidence lead to his downfall.

He was overconfident with Celestia and Luna but i don't think so after that. As I said in my previous post, he is absolutely immortal so he really doesn't care when he is imprisoned after the original case. If you notice, the only reaction he has to both times he is released was the fact that he was bored.

1000 years is nothing to an immortal. It is but a nap. He originally was overcondient because he was never challanged; however he still had the forsight in laying a very dangerous trap for Celestia and Luna with the seeds. He is always 1 step ahead - even when he is defeated, he lays things down.

He's psychotic and his danger comes from the fact that he is so nonchalant about his antics. He makes jokes and laughs and giggles and plays games while secretly plotting.

Not really. He threw off some evil seeds that would kill something that he couldn't find himself. That takes kindergarten level skills of comprehension

You are simplfying the situation. Let's break it down:

  • To have those seeds to begin with, he needed to already know that there was an uprising and a legit threat against him. Even if he did not believe the threat would take him down, he went through the trouble of setting up a trap to seek out and destroy the threat.
  • He chose those seeds for the SOLE purpose to destroy the Harmony Tree. This means he knows about the Elements of harmony and he knows that they are a threat. As such, in the case of his downfall, his seeds would destroy the Elements or at the least those who use them, thus resulting in his release.
  • He played off the seeds to Celestia and Luna as if they were nothing but a snack. He manipulated them by being nonchalant and non threatening.

He is a lot smarter than he acts.

Discord had less tactical intelligence

I don't know about that. He did think ahead by planting those seeds the plan just didn't execute like had hoped haha.

1. Like I said, that's not a huge leap of inteligence

2. He certainly does care unless his face of horror and him screeching "no" was nonchalant

3. Discord can reality warp, him having some seeds that would autonomously seek out threats to him is not strange

4. How do you know that they were specifically for the tree?

5. That was him being himself, if they asked him, he would be cocky enough to answer

1. Good point

2. I don't know about you, but the Mane 6, while disheartened, didn't turn grey until Discord used the swirly eyes on them. Applejack was getting sad but it wasn't until Discord shows up with his swirly eyes that she's corrupted, same with Pinkie and Rarity.

3. He could turn the Mane 6 into oranges, why does he need to keep their trust? He could just kill them with a gesture but is afraid for no reason that they'll lose trust in him

4. See above

5. Okay, but that doesn't explain why he gave back the wings and horns. Even by his own rules there was no reason for that

6. Discord could have stayed subversive, being sneaky and slowly analyzing the Mane 6 instead of just creating chaos right after being freed. As for your scenario, I would turn the Mane 6 into cookies, eat them, bam, job done

7. Discord wasn't completely sure, he lifts up his sun glasses and looks very worried when they start glowing.

img-2017892-2-mlfw5376-Discord_may_freak

This face is not relaxed, it's worried

2: Maybe Discord did not corrupt them through manipulation alone but he still tricked them into the area he needed them to be, even that takes planning to do.

3: Since the Mane 6 are the embodiment of the Elements themselves don't you think that they would neutralize or negate Discords power if he did that without corrupting them first, but once they were corrupted he saw no point in doing that because in his mind he had won, that was not do to stupidity that was do to pride.

4: See above

5: There's also no reason for him to keep them either, did you ever consider that Discord actually takes pride in what he does and would consider making his opponent's crippled would not only make it to easy for him but would make him look like a coward who just wanted to take the easy route. Considering that even if Discord did manage to take over Equestria he would literally be competing with all the other villains of Equestria who would not take kindly to him claiming he defeated the elements by taking away their wing and horns or turning them into furniture. They would not respect him, they would feel he just cheated his way to the top.

6:That would not have worked since Celestia would have sensed his presence once he freed himself and would have alerted twilight and the others that he was free therefor putting pressure on him as the elements themselves would be keeping a eye out for him. As for the rest of your comment, as I had stated previously, Discord Is to prideful to take the cheapskates way out and even if he wanted to there is no guarantee that whatever he did to them would not have undid itself or backfired in some way and that would have been more risky than anything Discord did before. Discord would rather know that he actually defeated them then the thought that they could be some mannequin or inanimate object sitting somewhere and then the elements free them over time and without warning to himself.

7: The glowing could have caught him off guard but again, Discord is arrogant, as arrogance is his true weakness, not the elements, so the thought of him losing never entered his mind until he saw the rainbow heading straight toward him.

1. Like I said, that's not a huge leap of inteligence

4.

1: No one expects Discord to be freaking Albert Einstein.

2: Just because he does not care whether he is turned to stone or not does not mean that he still doesn't want to win especially when he was so close. Also he did not have a backup plan that time like he did before, the only reason he Is free now is because the Mane 6 freed him.

3: Exactly, no one would suspect that he was plotting anything, as they would just believe it was Discord being random. Notice how despite Celestia's vast knowledge and wisdom, she was still unable to foresee those seeds as a threat until the broke free.

4: The fact that Discord says himself that they were meant to drain the powers of the Tree of Harmony, and the fact that that was where all of the roots originated.

5: One: they did not care and two: Discord has been known to lie and be un trust worthy, so there would have been no point.

1.2: Snapping your fingers is not manipulation

1.3: Pride can be stupid when in the excess that he has it

1.5: What other villains? Nightmare Moon is gone, Sombra's imprisoned and doesn't even live in Equestria, and Chrysalis is a gnat to Discord. Why does he care about Chrysalis's respect when he can turn  her to ash with a throught.

1.6: Where do you get the implication that Celestia has a Discord sensor? If Discord had escaped, put up a statue of himself to kee Celestia calm and then took her out silently, things would have been smoother.

1.7: This was when he dared them to use the Elements, an incredible gamble. It'd be like Superman standing in front of a Kryptonite Gun and not moving because he "thinks" it won't work

2.1: Obviously people do since he is hailed as the smartest villains

2.2: If he wants to win, he wouldn't want to be turned to stone, implying some level of caring

2.3: Celestia is kind of stupid, see her failure to detect Chrysalis and her belief that Discord couldn't find the Elements.

2.4: You know that he could have easily set the seeds to "Kill Harmony" and it would be the same result

2.5: Discord hardly ever lies, that's a huge flaw of his. He grants the truth in a twisted way, yes but he doesn't lie.

1.1.2: I never said it was, but the way he did it was, he still had to mentally break them down before he was able to discord them.

1.1.3: Pride is Discords weakness, when you have been granted the kind of power he possesses and has lived as long as him, you start to feel that you are invincible and can not be beaten, therefore the thought of defeat would be the last thing on Discords mind.

1.1.5: We still don't know what villains are out there, just because we assume that Discord is the most powerful being does not make that true, there could be a evil that is even stronger than the elements which would by default make him stronger than Discord.

1.1.6: Celestia has always been able to predict when something bad was going to happen that it would be stopped. It is rare that something would get past her, she just may not act because she is testing her student, if she was really clueless, she would have never sent Twilight her friendship letters so she could regain her confidence, which by the way was the foil in Discords plan even though some believe other wise.

1.1.7: As I said he was surprised, as I have stated arrogance is Discords flaw, its the one thing other than the elements that can stop him. Ironically it was his own arrogance that allowed Fluttershy to reform him in the first place because that was the flaw she was targeting.

2.5: Discord hardly ever lies, that's a huge flaw of his. He grants the truth in a twisted way, yes but he doesn't lie.

2.2.1: Well I sorry that you only believe geniuses can come up with tactical plans, everyone in the military must have a IQ of 300.

2.2.2: Wanting to win and not caring if he was turn to stone are two separate things. If Discord had had a backup plan like he did when Celestia and Luna turned him to stone, then he would not have cared, the fact that he did not meant there was no guarantee he would escape that time.

2.2.3: I don't consider its stupidity more than I call it blind trust, Celestia wanted to test Twilight and has always believed she would come through, and most of the time she is correct. I do believe that Celestia being upset by Twilights assumption that Candance was evil was a ruse. As for her being surprised that Discord found the elements was simply her underestimating Discord.

2.2.4: Harmony is not physical, even if the Tree of Harmony died Harmony would live on, Discord was aiming to weaken the Elements so he could be free after his seeds got rid of Celestia, Luna and the Tree of Harmony.

2.2.5: Leading some one on Is a form of lying and that is Exactly what Discord did when he first met the Mane 6, he lead them to believe they would find the elements in the maze. He also lied when he stated that he did not know what was happening and that he had no involvement with the vines that almost destroyed the Tree of Harmony.

Finally, If you don't like Discord then just say you don't, simply saying that he's a idiot because he made mistakes is foolish. If you want a true example of a idiot then lets give Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Discords powers as example. He could easily be defeated by giving him a chicken and a box of Crunchy Puffs, he would literally spend hours petting the chicken alone. Heck just release one of the Kanker sisters on him and he would be gone in a flash. Discord does not suffer from this nor does he ever give any sign that he could be easily tricked.

Discord is vastly more powerful than Celestia and Luna but has the brain capacity of a toddler on crack. Simply put, lots of power but no brain or common sense

Go back and watch Return of Harmony again, he's actually more of a case of "smart, but lazy" judging by how good at mind games and manipulation he is.

*Yes this is an old comment of yours, but your stances still stand, so, meh*

Thinking ahead far enough to know that he should plant seeds that will do a very specific action in capturing the princesses and tree of harmony, thus allowing the elements' power to dwindle and allow himself to escape, is hardly something a 'toddler' could come up with :3 He's arrogant, lazy and completely over-confident, but he's clever and sneaky, easily by no means 'stupid' in lacking brain power of any kind. Though judging by the back and forth bickering you've been doing with others in here, you've got your own definitions for 'stupid' from the looks, so, to each their own and what they view and interpret it as smile.png

Discord is cunning and good at short term planning on the fly but long term plans are beyond him and he simply forces everything with brute strength. Basically, Discord would get a great grade on an IQ test but would do terribly on a math test

Suppose that makes sense :3 Though any kind of lack of long-term planning would be due to his arrogance and other personality traits, not an actual lack of brain capacity, imo.

As I've said before, manipulation is not snapping your fingers and making someone evil.

He only did that with Fluttershy, with everypony else he used their fears and weaknesses to break them down and submitting willingly.

He broke Rainbow Dash by making try to choose between her loyalty her friends, and loyalty to her home.

He broke Applejack by convincing her the truth is painful so it's better to live a lie.

He broke Pinkie by turning the thing she held most dear, Laughter, against her and showing her the cruelty it can hold.

He broke Rarity by appealing to her love of gemstones to drive her to Greed.

He broke Twilight by turning her friends against her and making her believe everything she held dear was lost.

He drove home his control even more by enticing to search for the elements in the maze when they weren't even there. He left them unguarded and told them where they were("back where they started" in the book about them) just to show he didn't need bother taking the elements, and could just sever their ties to them instead.

Really, you don't say? Discord is powerful in his own right but, he just doesn't take advantage of what he has by making a strategy. He is just a comic relief.

I have to disagree with this. Yes, he is comic relief, but he's done a lot more than that in the season opener, especially when he convinced Twilight to return to her friends when she came back without them, pointing out in his own way how the crown doesn't make her better than anyone else. He looks like he has the intelligence level of a toddler on crack, but that's just part of his act. If he developed a sense of responsibility, he would definitely be able to fill in for the celestial sisters, but rather than it being out of his mental realm, it's really just a matter of the whole thing being out of character for him.

Tricking people is easy when you can read minds

Nothing in the show ever even hints at him having such an ability.

How else did he know all about them? Was he picking up books on them?

Discord had already said that being imprisoned in stone didn't make him privy to what went on in the outside world. It shouldn't be surprising he already knew about the M6 when they'd been to Canterlot on several occasions, especially Twilight who basically grew up there. Intuition could also explain how he was able to read them.

I doubt Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, or Pinkie ever went to the statue gardens, I don't think they'd like it.

To have planted those seeds even in that state shows that he was thinking ahead. It may not have worked exactly as plan but even the best laid plans don't always go according to plan.

Discord may be chaotic, but that doesn't mean he's stupid.

Who said they needed to? It's possible, given the range and depth of Discord's power, that his awareness goes well beyond his direct surroundings. If that is the case for Celestia and Luna, I don't see why that's not possible for Discord.

To have planted those seeds even in that state shows a thinking ahead. It may not have worked exactly as plan but even the best laid plans don't always go according to plan.

Discord may be chaotic, but that doesn't mean he's stupid.

Planting seeds to seek out your enemy because you're too lazy is not a great feat, though it's better than his other stuff.

What? Celestia and Luna have no awareness past their surroundings. See their failiure with the vine and not knowing who Chrysalis was
