Opensuse has really improved... I wanted to go back to KDE because it's honestly my favourite DE and I decided to give opensuse another chance. I tried it out a few years ago and it was really ugly; now, it looks really polished.

I had to do do some editing to get my network configuration going (had to go through their configuration tool a bit), but it's fine now. Network issue aside, I don't think I've ever had a smoother install and it figured out my weird partitioning scheme on its own. Top notch!

One thing's for sure... I am trying to avoid laptops with touch-screens on them...

because lately touch-screen laptops have been more and more ubiquitous

Yes, I use Linux. Good ol' Maemo on my N900 and Mint on my laptop. Over the break I'll probably go back to Manjaro but for now I need the Ronco Rotisserie of distros. I use that thar windowz on the desktop because AMD catalyst is absolute rubbish under Linux. I think come tax returns I'mma get a Nvidia card and roll either Arch, Manjaro or Open Suse on the tower.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

I haven't had too much problem with AMD Catalyst on my Setup. having a 7950 and all.

7870 user here. Dropped from 240+ FPS on Windows to less than half in Linux playing TF2 and Serious Sam 3 is unplayable. Maybe they've gotten a bit better, but why settle for less when I don't have to?

My laptop manages the impressive feat of being unable to support Linux, but I do sometimes use my other computer, which I have Linux Mint installed on.

Yay for having a spare monitor.

 awesome! :derp:

I remember, my sophomore year of high school, in my computer repair class, one of the seniors in the class kept interrupting the teacher asking if her could install Linux on the computer he was using. >.>

if it was the computer he was using, and it was built by him, perfectly reasonable.

It's come a long ways, but as someone who makes a living off of being a Linux sysadmin and someone who's been an avid user of Linux since Redhat 7.3, I do believe that I'm quite knowledgeable on the subject. There's too much drama in the Linux desktop community. Got a problem with someone??? No worries... just fork it! Now you've got a two sets of people doing the exact same things! So much combined effort is wasted because of the forks.

Not only that, but Linux needs to get off this whole open source only kick. Sure... that's good and all for the hobbyist, but it's not what the consumer wants. They want the thing that is going to work the best with the least amount of hassle. Open source drivers collectively blow. Stop using them.

Oh lets see... package manager wars are still an issue. As a developer, I wouldn't want to have to package my application for every single distro out there, and then every single version of every single distro out there.

I could go on if you'd like me to. Linux desktop is fine for the hobbyist. For the consumer, it's still far far away.

The sad part is that what the hobbyist wants is not what the consumer wants, but the hobbyist needs the consumer to use Linux to drive better development for it.

@, that's good for you, if you don't mind Mark Shuttleworth making a quick buck off of your personal information. That's also the choice that Linux gives people, but in the long run it's also the choice(s) that make Linux so unfriendly towards end users and drives development elsewhere.

Oh look a Linux thread! As you can tell from my username i am kinda required to post something in a thread like this...

Been using Linux for over 5 years and have exclusively used it on my PC for 4 years. Been mostly a Ubuntu user (first distro i tried was Ubuntu 8.10 and first i used as my main OS was 9.10) I plan on moving to Arch Linux soon as my main OS and having Ubuntu on the side to keep an eye on the Ubuntu ecosystem. Everything i need to do on a PC works well with Linux, and i enjoy the freedom, the power and control that Linux provides me. I also find it a lot of fun to mess around with :)

*raises hoof*

I have both Linux Ubuntu and Windows XP on my system, and use Windows... very rarely. I tend to use Linux as much as possible, and even prefer using Wine or other emulators for running Win apps to running Win itself.

So, I'm kind of Linux fanatic. I think it's amazing and it goes on my nerves how people often ignore it when making some apps and plugins. Most of my friends laugh at me for it, though. They don't know anything. X)

Linux once, Linux forever!
