Can't bring myself to choose, so gonna cheer everypony on!

Fluttershy: Keeps kindness at her core through thick and thin. Being able to live that way is inspiring.

That timid demeanor once hid her away, but there's still so much to say. Flutter on!  :squee:

Octavia: Left a strong impression in the fan-fic (University Days) and many fan works. Poised, genuine, and caring. Her beauty goes beyond the sum of such parts. How she overcomes and embraces the trials along the way allow you to really see her.

post-13930-0-42352000-1403188348_thumb.jpg

Applebloom: From early on, I've adored Applebloom. Giving the widest smiles of the CMC; an amazingly insightful filly; and truly open with her family. That earnest attitude really resonated with me, and still does. A go-getter who speaks her mind and ain't afraid to act. She quickly caught my eye.

post-13930-0-59676800-1403187814_thumb.png

Angel: An animal with attitude, but has his softer side.

post-13930-0-97386200-1403187804_thumb.png

Pinkie: The super party pony who dreams of making you smile true. With her infectious optimism and inexplicable antics, she keeps the spirit of freedom and fun under Celestia's sun :)

Scootaloo: Crusader extraordinaire! A filly with flight in her heart, but stuck with a slow start. A lot of inner turmoil haunted her, but finding solace in RD and the other CMC have set her free. Even if she never soars in the sky, she already knows what it means to fly.

Finally!

Fluttershy vs Octavia: I really like Fluttershy, she easily gets my vote.

Applebloom vs Angel: Applebloom, that voice

Scootaloo vs Pinkie Pie: My vote goes to Scootaloo, I think that's because I'm a Rainbow Dash fan, I slightly prefer her over Pinkie Pie...

Fluttershy vs Octavia -

Honestly, Fluttershy has an actual canon personality, but as for Octavia, like EVERY background character, has only gained a strong personality in fanon.

Applebloom vs Angel -

As much as I find Angel underrated (he actually helps Fluttershy more than the fandom thinks he does), I have to hand this one to Applebloom.

Pinkie Pie vs Scootaloo -

Since Pinkie Pie was one of my first favorite ponies, I have to say I hand this one to her. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of Scootaloo's personality sometimes.

I also don't care about Scootaloo, she's actually my least fav CMC...

As an Applejack fan and a Scootaloo fan I am certain that exponentially increasing my amount of work will make people like my character more.

Just taking inspiration from my favvies and all.

Well, good luck :P Sorry, but she's really completely uninteresting character for me. I find her constant obsession with Rainbow more annoying than cute and all the headcanons about her being an orphan aren't exactly helping, because in my opinion fans just see what they want to see. But still, it's not like I completely dislike her and I wish her luck in her next matches :)

*sigh* The sensation of "this one" isn't showing up a lot xD Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Basing it on a point system of sorts. Otherwise, I'd be stuck :P

Edit: Those "points" aren't a fair reflection of anything. I'm just going to support them all.

Do you not follow soccer tournaments IRL? Or even the current FIFA WC going on now? The # of goals (votes) scored by a team only matter if there's a tie for points. The Netherlands trashed Spain 5:1 the other day, and earned 3 points. Mexico beat Cameroon 1:0, and also earned 3 points. It's purely about winning, and not so much how much you win by, unless there's a tie of course. Then it matters.

More on this subject:

American Football, Basketball and Baseball all use essentially the same system, but don't assign points. They leave it up to Wins-Losses because American's don't seem to like Ties (American Football allows them, but only after special OT rules; Basketball, Baseball, and College Football will drag on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...and on in order to not have a tie) like Football (soccer) does. The points are used to reward teams for Winning and Drawing and give a single number for everyone to use so they don't have to look at W-D-L for every team (handy when you're looking through 4 leagues with 20 teams each like they have in England or most other countries.

Official Update from the 2014 MLPF Staff!!!

With this round firmly in their grasp, Fluttershy and Apple Bloom will secure 6 points each, taking both of them through to the Round of 16, and eliminating both Angel and Octavia (they will still face each other though, but it won't matter in the end). The two leaders will face each other next to determine who will take the top spot in their group. Whoever leads this group is likely to face off against either Scootaloo or Celestia, while the runner-up will most likely be looking to face Pinkie Pie in the next round!!

As they currently sit, Pinkie Pie will trump Scootaloo and assert her leadership of Group D, leaving it up to Celestia and Scootaloo to fight for that second slot against Fluttershy, while Pinkie Pie looks to face Apple Bloom. My personal guess is that it will be Scootaloo joining Pinkie in the next round because she beat out Celestia in the first match and will finish strongly against Bulk Biceps (presumably taking 6 points and 1 loss). But Celestia lost to Scoots and will likely lose to Pinkie, but take a win over Bulk, so she'll likely leave the competition with 3 points.

Regarding you spoiled comments; I'm an American and I love a hard fought draw... Of course some of that comes from my love of classic pro wrestling; I do miss the age of the 1hour time limit draws for the NWA championship... Good time!

@@PE Brony, I wondered if it'd be taken that way ^ _ ^'

In the first part of that post, I mentioned using a point system (of sorts) to decide who I'd vote for; however, the number of appearances, recency, and the like wouldn't bring me any closer to a decision. Those points are what didn't reflect anything for me.

I read your explanation of the point system a while back. I get it, and love it. Great guidelines for the tournament.

Gonna go wipe away that portion of the post. It's easily misinterpreted. Had my reasons for leaving it, but I'm over that.

Please keep up the great work! :)

Ah yes. That would make more sense. I think you'd edited out the part that would've made more sense before I got to read it!

I'm American as well, but many Americans that I've met don't seem to understand or want a draw. It's fitting if both teams do well! But American's are obsessed with having a #1 etc, so to have two teams tied is extremely uncomfortable for them! haha I grew up playing and watching and loving soccer, and lived in England for a couple years, so it makes a lot of sense to me!

@@PE Brony, Yeah. I kept tweaking this and that   Ended up leaving dregs of the first part. Should've removed it all from the start.

It's set now though. And as usual, you handled things well. Harshwhinny would be proud!

Aw, well thanks! I actually felt my initial response was a little rough, but I'm glad it makes sense. (I'm really sarcastic IRL but I try to avoid it online because of how difficult it is to interpret in text, plus, the show is all about being friendly... ;) )

So, easy enough picks today.  Fluttershy over Octavia, Apple Bloom over Angel Bunny, heck, even Pinkie Pie over Scootaloo wasn't that difficult of a choice, especially considering I'm fairly sure Scoots will still make it to the Round of 16.  Badabing, badaboom, votes are in.

Yeah, not too many hard choices this round, that's for sure.  Kind of anti-climatic.

Oh come on Dinky, GET HY- eh, screw it, you're right, I'm bored too.  *sigh*  :fiery:

Welcome back to another episode of BSPN, World Cup edition! Today, we are witnessing Fluttershy and Applebloom coasting to the Round of 16 with relative ease, leaving Angel and Octavia in the dust. Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie seems to have blast her party cannons on Scootaloo in what looks like an emphatic victory over the storied Scootaloo. Tonight however, we're witnessing the other Group D match, where Princess Celestia and Bulk Biceps are going to fight to keep their World Cup campaigns alive. A loss of either character, and their World Cup story will end with one game to spare.

We're also heading off to the second games for Group E later tonight, as Derpy Hooves and Rarity both have a chance to qualify for the Round of 16 if they win against Spitfire and Sunset Shimmer respectively at their expense. Will we see more of the same for the characters, or will we be able to see an upset or two heading into tonight's matches?!

What do you think will happen tonight ? We'll then hand it over to @PE Brony who will lead us through the character anthems tonight!

Bah, I suppose I should have expect Pinke to get an easy victory. At least Scootaloo isn't out of the competition yet, having beaten Celestia.

And I think she'll be able to advance to the next stage too.. My Right foot tells me she'll beat Bulk Biceps in the last round and my Left foot tells me Pinkie will prevail over Celestia... Leaving Pinkie and Scoots to advance out of the group!

Hahahaha   I'm slipping up today, eh?

There's no context anymore xD  (another edit, coming up!)

The way I've come to view the ponies makes it harder than ever (if not, impossible) to give preference. While it varies in form, several have left a strong impression. I made clear choices in March Madness because I didn't have that type of connection to very many- it was easy to weigh their standing. At the moment though, I can't bring myself to choose.

I'll cheer everypony on from the sidelines for now.

Just the way I wish to participate  :)

Doesn't matter. Celestia is not gonna beat Pinkie and Scootaloo is not losing to Bulk Biceps. Scootaloo beating Celestia was the deciding factor in this group. Sorry Celestia, it's gonna take a miracle ; - ;

I can respect that. *brohoof* That's actually how I watch most sports. It lets you cheer for any great play, player, team, etc, and lets you appreciate the game as a whole.

Commentator Mode *Engaged*!

I was wondering: should I copy all the stats into a blog so everypony can see how they change as the tournament progresses? I also plan to start adding their individual results and stats to their respective profiles.

Also, are there any other statistics that I've missed that somepony wants to see that can be drawn from the results? I love stats, so let me know here or in a PM and I'll see what we can come up with! Or are these fine?
