If you could live in the 1800's. would you?

Let's see... live in a time at the start of the Industrial Revolution amongst some of the earliest, most polluting and initially dangerous technologies around, before the advent of much modern medicine, including antibiotics.

Big time Nope!

Depends on where I could live. Victorian England was a nasty place in general for the lower classes, so probably not... I don't fancy working in dirty factories and dying of some random disease

Living in that time period would be a nightmare for me. With the highly increased rate of disease and death by many different things, the lack of any technology, it would be horrible. Then include my hardcore anxiety problems and that is a recipe for disaster. D: My brother's girlfriend would be all for it though. XD She is nuts over that time period.

1800s don't seem so cool. I guess nearly everyone here is used to living with technology and overall better quality of life. It also depends whether I'd be born in the richer society group or the poor one. Back in the days you could live like a king and not care about anything or work for laughable money and over have a bucked up life. The only times in the past I'd love to live in were the times of ancient Greece. I'd really like to see it with my eyes how the society worked. These were still weird times, but one of the best imo. Cultural and technological growth. But I guess the times were cool only for men. It was really hard for women back then, but everyone believed it was the right thing.

But 1800s nothing unusual and supercool that would make abandoning our normal lives worth it.

Haha...I'll pass. I would much prefer to be here with all of the helpful technological innovations and advancements in medicine.

Nope because of the amount of problems most countries had during the 1800s I would rather live in a more secure society rather then living in poor conditions such as disease such as the two cholera outbreaks and don't get me started on the poor living conditions

I would definitely go back to the 1800s.

Granted, I love my creature comforts; air conditioning, TV, movies, electricity, microwaves, etc, but there's a lot to be said for the simplicity of basic humanity which is often lost in the technological swamp that is modern day life.

I will admit, life back then was harsh. But at the same time it was simpler and, in many ways, better.

Another angle that should be noted is that many people seem to have an affinity toward a certain era in history that just speaks to them on a personal level. For me it's the 1920s (but can go as far back as the 1840s). If I could go back to those times, I wouldn't hesitate. I'd be out of here so fast my bloomers would have to catch the next train after me!  :D

Oh hell naw. People complain about present times and how the past was better. Well guess what?

-Amputation without anesthesia was a standard medical practice

-Sanitation was not

-get robbed or assaulted? Good luck w/ the police figuring that out without forensics.

-want to get a job? prepare to work 60+ hours for crap wages in dangerous conditions

-If you were anything but a heterosexual christian caucasian male in the west, you pretty much didn't have rights.

-No such thing as refrigeration, electricity, environmental or financial regulations, nor testing of various foods, drinks and drugs

-the water wasn't safe to drink

-Good luck not catching a deadly illness

-Or getting a bath

-Child and spousal abuse were legal

-Everyone was very prudish & puritanical. Class, elegance and being 'refined' mattered the most. AKA good luck getting to third base or allowing yourself to have a good time. Heck, good luck even wearing things like shorts and tank tops.

-Then there was slavery and the genocide of Native Americans.

-Not to mention various attempts of imperialism on a global scale

-No MLP forums to log onto.

So no. I think I'll pass.

Dear god no. I don't know why people would want to live then compared to now. Many reasons for that, mostly because we have progressed more. I get why it might seem fun to some, but it really seems like a terrible idea.
