Anyone else sick and tired of Mare Do Well hate?

Well, I don't regularly see the hate towards the episode, so no. The only times I ever see people mention their dislike towards the episode is in the "Least Favorite Episode" thread, which is the whole point of the thread. And even then, they aren't overly hating it; they're usually pretty calm about it.

 

So, no, I can't say I'm tired of it. I don't see enough of it to be tired of it.

Trust me, we have some people in the fandom that have a lot of hate on other episodes and give us a bad name already. We don't overreact and label it as the worst episode of the show so I wouldn't say that the hate on the Mysterious Mare Do Well episode is out of control.

I think the hate for the episode is more memetic than anything at this point. Its reputation is as the episode "everyone hates", whereas people rarely step forward and actually explain why they didn't like it, and I rarely even see people ripping on it these days. Now mind, there're a load of things to dislike about it, but I don't think it deserves it's reputation or status, which is I think what the OP is trying to get at. There are much crappier episodes as it is.

I don't care for the episode myself, which can most easily be explained by this comic poking fun at the episode, but I don't 'hate' upon it, nor do I see regular hate towards it. We've moved several seasons on from it, most people aren't going to talk about it unless they're referring to a specific event or, as others in this thread have pointed out, listing their favorite or least favorite episodes.

   I really do not care for "Mysterious Mare Do Well", yet sometimes the loathing goes too far, this episode is no exception. We can say however, even the worse episodes have some kind of appeal, so are glossed over to the least favourite category, now there are episodes that are quite bad, and enjoying them can be a chore, nevertheless even the most successful animated series have had dodgy episodes too, we are prone to folly no matter how meticulous we claim to be. To me "Mysterious Mare Do Well", still has a sort of guilty pleasure to me, for it was the first episode I saw, and it introduced me to Rainbow Dash, despite the strikes against it.

I can agree that when I see rabid hate for not just this episode but any episode I just shake my head. Its ok not to like an episode but at this point it does feel like people are kicking a dead horse. I feel that when dealing with episodes we dislike we can handle ourselves better than we(all fandoms) tend to. I didn't really like the episode that much, but I can see why some do.

Well on most 'worst episodes' lists, Mare Do Well is usually #2 followed by an episode which the person despises for some particularly personal reason.

I missed the Mare Do Well episode actually. (I think that was the episode I abandoned a few minutes in.) I personally don't like Rainbow Dash,  the only reason I watched Rainbow Falls was for Derpy.

Actually, I liked this episode, when I watched it the first time. I saw it only once, so maybe my opinion would be different right now, but while I can understand arguments against it, I don't really agree with all of them. I think that people analyze it a little too much instead of just enjoying the show. A lot of people seem to think that it's the worst episode of MLP (along with Spike at your service), but for me it wasn't that bad.

I'm actually probably going to be doing a blog on this episode (and a couple others) and yeah I agree, it wasn't that bad of an episode. People hate it because of the moral and they claim that Rainbow Dash is out of character, which I completely disagree with.

I can go on and on and on about why I think there's so much hate for that episode, but I'll just keep my mouth shut so I don't offend anyone.

 

For me, it was a 6/10; wasn't awful, wasn't anything to write home about, but the amount of hate for that episode is bullshit, and it all comes down to butthurt tarnishing a writer's reputation amongst the fandom. I feel bad for Merriwhether Williams, honestly.

The hate has actually toned down a lot ever since it first aired, despite the fact that some fans still put it at their least favorite episode

 

That said, while I do think the criticisms toward the episode was justified, hearing everyone get butthurt every time they see "Written by Merriwether Williams" and unfairly trash it gets really annoying, especially when that episode is actually really good like Wonderbolts Academy or Bats!

I wasn't in the fandom at the time this episode aired, but if you're sick and tired of the hate, you sound as though it's been going on a long time, and at a fierce rate.

 

I don't even see why anyone should hate on her anyway — ore basically hating on all the mane sixes talents excluding Dashie.

You're not the only one who has sympathy for Merriwhether, friend. I mean, it is terrible but it could've been better if there were a few things in it that were tweaked and better written.

 

I don't think it's really that bad, I think it's just going about on the wrong foot as it wasn't executed properly. Like you, I'm gonna keep my mouth shut as I don't want to be dragged into a never-ending debate about the hate for that episode. In short, I learned to live with it and hope that it would be re-worked sometime later on.

Going by what I've seen, hatred for Mare Do Well is pretty uncommon outside of conversations about one's least favorite episode and the occasional mention of Merriwether Williams herself. It rarely gets out of hand though. Just a passing mention of not liking the episode without going into much detail. It seems to be most people's least favorite episode of season 2, so it's natural that it would come up more often. 

 

I'm more sick of people hating on Merriwether than anything else. She's made a few episodes since that have been pretty well-received and even praised by people who hated MMDW, but there are those among them who still want to give her a hard time about it. Some people are just petty though.

I saw a lot of people didn't like it months back but I haven't seen many people talk about it lately. I'll say that when an episode is hated, people take their hate way too far. I thought it wasn't that good of an episode but you don't see me saying "Worst episode ever!" or "Merriwether Williams fails as a writer!" I actually think she's not a bad writer since she wrote some of the best episodes of Spongebob.

I'm actually amazed at the sheer amount of hate it sometimes gets when it comes up in conversation. I actually thought it was pretty decent, myself...certainly wasn't a masterpiece by any stretch, but I never thought in a million years it'd be something that'd make it into "worst episode" lists all across the board, let alone be worth raging over (in my opinion, NO episode thus far has been worth outright raging over, but maybe I'm just irrational). Just gotta say, poor Merriwether, man. She didn't deserve that much hate because one episode she wrote flopped in the eyes of some bronies.

 

I dunno, whenever I see someone rage, I can't help but think of the overweight comic book guy from The Simpsons.
