Things You Missed on the First Viewing

Something Floaty

Recommended Posts

I tend to rewatch things that I enjoy, from TV shows and movies, to short videos on upload sites. I'm always looking for little things that I missed the first time around, perhaps because I was cleaning or doing something else while watching the first time, instead of keeping my entire focus on the show. I like to not only enjoy what I am watching, but understand it as completely as I am able. For example, not only am I a huge Trekkie, but I have watched every episode of every series, the majority of them so many times I can both quote them word-for-word and tell you what was going on in the background of many scenes.

Anyways, I have been rewatching many of the episodes of MLP: FIM, partly for this reason (and partly because they are fun to watch!). I haven't found many things I missed the first time around, as the episodes are shorter compared to Star Trek or a feature-length film, but I was curious if anyone else has watched an episode for the second or third or fourth time and found themselves saying "Wow! I never noticed that until now!"

For me, one thing that I hadn't realized until the second time watching the two episodes: The song Pinkie Pie plays to "Pied Piper" the Parasprites out of Ponyville (say that ten times fast) is the same song playing during her first party, in the silo, during the flashback in "Cutie Mark Chronicles"

The Nightmare Before Christmas reference in Bats!

Cheese singing the Smile song in Pinkie Pride, even though she directly said it I didn't notice because my volume was too low or he sang too fast or something

Slenderman in Pinkie Apple Pie, I never even saw it I just seen a friend post about it

The filly Derpy in The Cutie Pox and the filly Derpy in Pinkie Pride

Will they ever be adressed in the show? Were they put their on purpose?

Me too. I watched the whole series of MLP:FiM several times already. I like rewatching, because on every rewatch I spot some new details I missed out before, or gain new insights into the storyline when all the little pieces scattered throughout the episodes start to join into a bigger picture.

I also learned to pay more attention to the background in movies and cartoons, because there often are some details there, hidden messages or symbols. Every Brony knows about Derpy cameo appearances, but there is a lot more in there than meets the eye. Some time ago I started a whole thread about symbols and hidden knowledge in MLP:FiM.

Once when watching "How I met your mother" I noticed this way that some mysterious numbers started to appear in the background (e.g. door numbers, calendars, numbers on magazines being read by the actors etc.), counting down from 100. No one of my friends watching it with me has spotted it except me. I was wondering what would happen when they reach 0. And it turned out that at the end of the episode, Marshal's father died, exactly when the "counter" run out of numbers. That was a stunning experience, even when I expected something to happen.

@ yeah, this one is particularly awesome, because Nighmare Moon's head appears exactly at the place where the Unicorn head statue stands right behind the hourglass, so it can be easily confused with just a warped image of it. Your conscious mind will miss it out, but subconscious would spot it and make you feel strangely. I'd probably never spot it until I saw someone commenting about it on YouTube.

But I spotted the short-lasting animation sequence with Twilicane ;) I laughed of it a lot, and I predicted that this would become a meme soon. (Same with white potion, but this was hard to miss.)
