gaming What are things you dont like seeing in videogames?

Long ass cutscenes that completely kill the flow of gameplay. I'm looking at you MGS!

Online passes to play a game I paid $60 to rightfully own. FU EA!

Micro transactions in full retail releases. I didn't even make it 10 minutes into Bravely Default...

Always online DRM. Looks like I'll be unable to play Diablo 3 in 5 years.

-BACKTRACKING!!! What makes you think I want to go all the way back to the beginning of the level just to get that one key to continue? :eww:

I don't mind a little backtracking but when it takes me all the way to the beginning of the level for no good reason, then it starts to make me angry.

-Overused plots

-Repetitve gameplay

-Bad controls for the game

-Unskippable cutscenes (unless it's a really important cutscene)

When it's multi player only.

^Exactly this^

Especially in MMORPG's.  If only they had an offline mode, like the GC version of Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 Plus, then I would love it.

That would be a nice option as well.

Games like diablo 3 suffered sales and criticism when it was multiplayer only when released.

You'd think the gaming industry would learn for this, but no. X/

Yup......I was also one of those Diablo 3 owners and once I saw Multiplayer Only, got rid of it in less than a week.

Yeah, I mean, not everyone can afford online gaming 24/7, so that's always bull when you can't play normally.

In game or in app purchases just kill the fun for me.  Like, I bought the game, why not give me everything, you know?  I can understand expansion packs, but locking certain features?   That's a big no-no.

If the game is Japanese, I'd like there to be an option for Japanese audio and English audio.  Japanese audio for Japanese games is usually better.

Advertisements kill gaming for me.  If I payed for your app or game, I'd like there to be no ads.

I hate:

-over sexualized female characters (Halo 4's Cortana).

-unnecessary gameplay elements (GTA 5's golf).

-using only 4 different Character models for a game filled with NPCs (fable 3)

.

Agreeing with all these and, in addition:

- Long, unskippable content.

- Long load time.

- Highly linear gameplay and environment (lack of personal choices throughout game).

- Too much focus on graphics and not enough on gameplay.

- No post-game content or playability.

- Bland characters.

- Uninteresting story/script.

- Lame dialogue, either unmotivated or cliche at the opposite extreme.

- Addons, expansions, especially expensive ones or downloads that cost extra that should just have been a part of the game.

- Text or interface that blends in with background, too messy, too small, or otherwise difficult to see. And because I'm legally blind, I don't play games without options to make these things possible to view.

Where to start....

~Quick Time events

~Linear story lines

~Linear gameplay(one path through the whole game, no alternate routes to take)

~Pointless cut scenes

~unrealistic AI. that can one shot you across the world/map with a pistol.

~Short campaigns

Online wise:

~Quickscoping,no scoping

~ Halo jumping

~Drop shotting

~campers

etc...pretty much every noob tactic that came about with CoD.

~

Quickscoping is hard for me! Then again, I'm horrid at using snipers in general...

This may not count but I just hate pop up ads in the middle of a game.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it save equistria with its five candy coloured friends and shoot rainbows at bad guys using their necklaces and tiara unless you're celestia

Adding on to my list:

~ Lack of any singleplayer content.

~ Microtransactions.

~ Invisible walls.

~ AI that is impossibly good/horrifyingly bad.

~ Lack of mod support. (What? I love modding my games!)

~ Really cheap jumpscares. (I adore jumpscares, I really do, heck even cheap ones, but sometimes they're just not even worth having there)

I also hate unskipable cutscenes and tutorials, especially if they're lengthy and unnecessary

And QTEs. And shitty escort missions

the same old plot every single game

Mario Bros. has a plot?

wikipedia says so: One day, bowser invades the mushroom kingdom. He and his Koopa Troop are jealous of the kingdom, and King Bowser decides to take it for himself. To do this, Bowser casts a spell upon the kingdom and transforms all of its inhabinats into blocks, weeds, and other objects. It is foretold that only the mushroom king's daughter princess toadstool (aka peach) can undo the spell. Knowing this, Bowser kidnaps her. Fortunately, the Mario Brothers learn about the Mushroom Kingdom's problem and race to its rescue.

The player takes the role of mario or, in the case of a second player, his brother Luigi . The ultimate objective is to race through the worlds of the mushroom kingdom, evade bowser's forces, and save the Princess.

every block you break is actually a toad.......yeah..

I was being sarcastic :P

I was talking about how the series was never big on story so it wasn't a big deal(Sunshine and Galaxy 1 were the only games with a bigger emphasis on story, both of which were.....surprisingly decent

Ridiculously over-long cutscenes. *coughmetalgearsolidcough*

'help' text boxes with painfully obvious 'advice'.

Being forced to backtrack or grind for hours.

Unskippable cutscenes/tutorials

Voice chat.

An online player rating system.

Pointless overpriced accessory items  (TF2*COUGHCOUGH*)

I generally don't play similar games, because I get bored of the same stuff over and over. Therefore I can't say I suffer from this issue.

There is one thing though that applies to all games. Difficulty.

Most games are too easy, and those who are hard are so for the wrong reasons. Like playing on higher difficulty levels. It only turns enemies into bullet sponges and forces me to memorize game sequences so I can pull them off perfectly. That's no fun. Difficulty should consist of a complex system which gives great reward once mastered. Like rocket jumping in TF2

1. Instant-Death moves. There are exceptions. Like Headshots in TF2 (particularly), and the Spy's backstab mechanic in TF2. But not Horn Drill or Sheer Cold. Those are ridiculous.

2. Annoying characters. I have one obvious example. Jasper Batt Jr. Oh and Slippy.

3. CLICHE characters. Nobody else seems to be bothered by these, because Final Fantasy "is almost flawless." I think not. These characters get VERY BORING after awhile. Almost EVERY MAIN CHARACTER IN THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES is an example. They can be done well, as in Final Fantasy 4 and 6. BUT THEY USUALLY ARE DONE POORLY.

4. Too much focus on the plotline. One game that has this is... One example is pushing it. These games are often ridiculously complicated, with poor gameplay. I think I have one OUTSTANDING example of this. HALO 2, two? Add Modern Warfare 3. (it's plotline actually sucks.)

5. I don't need to explain the next one. INVISIBLE WALLS SUCK. But, that's only a limit to processing power, usually.

6. Nationalist promotion. One game that has this in SPADES is Call of Duty. It's whole message is "Never trust a Russian." Oh yeah... THAT'S ALSO RACIST. See what I did there, imitation of the COD fanbase?

Unskippable game intro's.

I DO NOT CARE IF THIS GAME IS PUBLISHED BY 2K GAMES OR HAS NVIDIA HAVOK UNREAL ENGINE 3D PHYSX SUPER SURROUND SOUND FEATURES. JUST LET ME PLAY MY GAME.

My understanding is that Xbox Live and PSN contractually require at least a certain amount of startup screens to initialize certain system-related things. That's still not a valid excuse.

If I were to make an Xbox game, I would insert 10 seconds of "WE ARE CONTRACTUALLY REQUIRED TO INSERT THIS MUCH BINK VIDEO BECAUSE THE XBOX SYSTEMS ARE SLOW TO STARTUP"

On PC though, it's unforgivable. Staring at logos has already been invalidated as a marketing gimmick.

I hate seeing the same cutscene over, and over, and over again after failing a certain mission. Like, there's no way to skip it. Even if it's only 30 seconds long, it drives me crazy.

I also dislike pay to win games, and a bunch of useless DLC and microtransactions.

Escort quests. I fucking hate having to escort your broken ass AI around the entire map, and the reward is never worth the time I put into escorting this useless airheaded mother fucker through that entire level, and a boss fight. Oh, and jrpg's have the horrible tendency to put in "my parents died whilst being raped and eaten alive, and my village was burned then raped, then burned again" edgy dark almost fanfic level backgrounds for their protagonist.
