Exactly!

 

Sombra is a mysterious character with a lot of questions surrounding him. Add that with what we know and what we can infer from his appearance in the show and the flashback we see in the Twilight/Shining Armor comic, it just makes him such an interesting character for me.

I share in your enthusiasm friend.

 

Though I will say that I personally believe his lack of speaking lines in the series actually a benefit to him. A villain who talks too much can sometimes be seen as a little too arrogant. I loved Chrysalis & all, but her mouth got her in trouble.

 

Granted Tirek and Discord are good examples of vocal villains done right, but I think Sombra as a silent (or rather, not as mouthy) villain works as well. To me, it just shows he's cool & calculated.

I don't mind his lack of lines, but I don't think that Sauron expy worked so well (Heck, I don't think Sauron is that much of a great villain either).

It makes me think of Sombra in the newest comic "Fiendship is Magic"

 

 

In the comic, it was revealed there is a shadow army lying beneath the Crystal Empire. That is why I like the song even more as now it seems to be more accurate

Fridge Horror: Sombra's shadow form starts out at only Shaquille-O'Neal-size, but when he finally returns in S3, he's big enough to surround the whole Empire. Um... did he get a massive power-up during those 1,000 years? Nice job breaking it, Celestia and Luna, LOL!

It's amazing how much context that single issue added to Sombra. The reasons behind the slavery, why the crystal heart was stored away, Sombra himself, etc. The song is even more fitting; considering. ^^

It is interesting; actually. I doubt Celestia and Luna expected Sombra turn his curse against them like that, and really take advantage of his shadow form. Interesting how thing can turn out.

Well, looking at the following traits:

 

 

 

This character type is defined by three elements:

• First, the character must be a jerk. Even if they help people, they're not just selfish or insensitive - they're outright cruel, insufferable, immoral, amoral and/or the villain. They have a mean streak that tends toward the sadistic; they delight in hurting others, whether emotionally or physically, and often have little patience for anyone who disagrees with them. Also, keep in mind that sometimes, any sympathetic character does act like a jerk at some point, such as when a normal Woobie gets pushed too far, but this does not make them into this trope.
• They have a hidden, softer side. Many are clearly capable of being downright friendly, courteous, and kind, but either are too angry and impatient inside, or fear showing their softer side when not behind closed doors. Others are clearly Troubled, but Cute, with a Freudian Excuse.
• As if in return for their bad behavior, the author seems to delight in placing them in unpleasant situations, and yet continue to show that they are sympathetic. Basically, the universe hates them so we don't have to.

 

...it's hard to disagree with it. Not sure if I would fully agree, but the Sombra we see in the comic definitely fits.
